This is truly my favorite mexican restaurant in L.A. The best hand made tortillas, the best tacos in town. The tacos are made with hand made corn tortillas and topped with mozarella cheese. Lenchita's gets 5 stars from me!!! It's a smaller joint with AMAZING food. The food was so good, great portions, full of flavor and inexpensive! I got the chile verde with a fried egg on top, rice and beans--all of this for $6.50! My bf and I split a steak quesadilla on the side and the carne asada was one of the best I probably have ever had (with my bf being Mexican and us eating Mexican as much as we do, I have had my fair share!). I love the fact that the quesadilla was on a corn toritilla and only $2. All the tortillas are made by hand too. You can't beat the prices and the flavor here. The only downside is the wait for the table. We came on a Sunday so it was packed and you kind of have to scope out the place until a table opens up to sit. I will most definitely be back! read more

BIRRIA. That's what this place is known for other than the hand made tortillas. So why did they run out of it 4 in the afternoon? Yes, I went there Sunday, yes I know they fill up quick; but, knowing that their popular dish is BIRRIA, why can't they have more in supply? An hour wait plus half an hour food wait is bad. My feet hurt just standing at the door way waiting for a table! ( they don't seat you, seat yourself!) I went and ordered something else,(I don't remember the name of it. That's how bad it is.) the meat flavorless, rice crusty. Waitresses cant hear a word you say because it's so loud in there. I call and they don't even try to put me on hold, and I've noticed when I'm physically there they don't answer phones right away they let them ring. Best mexican food in the San Fernando Valley! Seriously if you're in the area i highly reccommend stopping by this hidden gem. They make the torillas by hand in the back and you can watch all the food being made. And speaking of food, the taste...food heaven, nothing compares to fresh authentic mexican food. They only accept cash, but I personally prefer that over credit cards. I will be returning again to buy a pack of the tortillas. read more

i been here twice already and am not impressed at all and yes i hear EVERYBODY saying how great it is but i've had better for less trouble. if you don't have cash don't bother makin the trip otherwise go to an atm, parking lot is small so best to park on street, wait time is ridiculous i waited an hour roughly. you really have to seat yourself cause everybody is too damn busy to pay you any mind i like the handmade tortillas, i just wish they were smaller but that's me otherwise you're eating all maza. i had the chilequiles which were NOT crispy just soggy and flavorless. beans were good horchata was bland. read more

Food is.always good. Today was the worst as far as service goes. I ordered my food. Kept an eye on what to go orders they were placing on the counter. I noticed that the one that appeared to be mine come out about 7 minutes after I placed the order. 16 minutes after that they finally give me me order which sure enough was the one I had identified. I told the lady that gave the order about my disappointment and all she said was "sorry" in a very insincere tone. Only the fearless need apply. The food is great comfort food for those of us who have a taste for the pedestrian. They serve handmade tortillas which are grilled and served hot and heavy, so if you are trying for that six pack you should run, run run far away! Once in a great while however will not kill you. Service can be slow or fast, time of day--depending. I have tried most of the menu, --you will enjoy it no question. You should be warned however, that sometimes the cook might be different so sometimes the taste may be off, I have encountered this once or twice within a year. Be advised. Business is cash only, there is an ATM at the gas station across the street, I would advise going to your Banco to avoid the 2 buck and change fee. we decided to try this place out after reading 'handmade tortillas' on their sign. the restaurant seems large but they only use the back half of the building. it's pretty ghetto like the rest of van nuys blvd. it's like you're in another country. much like driving down garvey ave in the sgv. so, we had the chile rojo, caldo de pollo, and tamales. the chile rojo was aight. not totally tender but not chewy either. it had good spice but we could tell it had been sitting around awhile. the rice and beans were lukewarm. it was obvious that stuff had been made earlier that morning but still tasted good. the chicken soup was flavorful and the tamales were your run-of-the-mill stuff. the best part of the meal had to be the handmade tortillas. they were very warm and fresh. great to sop up all the juices on the plate. the salsa was very spicy too. another plus. we also loved the tamarindo drink. real tamarindo mixed with sugar and water. yummy. the workers here speak little english so be prepared to use your spanish. the toilets are also pretty skanky. they're barely good for washing your hands. the food overall was good, but i would prolly try another spot on the boulevard next time.... read more

I've been coming to Lenchitas since I was 8, now im 27 . I always get the chile verde its the best, I've also tried the chile rojo it is also good but the chile verde has always been my favorite. I used to go here a lot in the last 15 years and always loved Thier costillas. A while back I came by and it was closed , today I came by and it was opened, great some excellent Mexican food. So I ordered the costillas. They brought me nice hand made tortillas and 2 kinds of salsa, delicious ! BUT the costillas where so salty I couldn't eat all of it. Nice rice and beans wonderful but too salty on the costillas. Waitress are very nice , can't complain on them since most of them have been there a long time. Horrible , horrible service . Don't ever bother to step a foot in this place . Yes the food is good , handmade tortillas deserve a star . But waiting for a table without being seated takes up to 20 mins . We got lucky and found a seat quickly , but to our disadvantage the table was still a mess . We decided to wait until they cleaned it , & once the busboy came he accidently dropped a entire plate on my pants . Ew. Next waiting half an hour for a waitress to attend you . A lot of them ignore you when you try to ask them for a simple thing such as napkins. Also getting our drinks & even our food order wrong , like Come on . Man i wish Lenchita was my MOM lol what can i say its like heaven the food is great. last time i had 3 big ass tamales a big cup of agua de pina and The Dad size Bowl of Menudo with fresh hand maid tortillas .. and I'm not even prego lol!!! next time i go ill get the Biria that is so popular it runs out by 10 am.
