First time coming here on a Friday night and I was honestly so happy with everything. I wanted to try a new Mexican restaurant and this place did not disappoint. The service, the food, the drinks amazing. The servers were super attentive, and I liked that it wasn't just one person assigned to us. Everyone checked in and everyone was great. The molcajete was delicious, the salsa hit, and the meat was cooked perfectly with great flavoring. My only regret is not coming sooner. This place is absolutely unacceptable. The food was terrible and completely flavorless. The steak had a weird smell, which is honestly disgusting and not okay to serve. I ordered the chilaquiles tablita, and the red sauce was clearly the same cheap tomato sauce they give you with the chips. The red enchiladas had that exact same sauce too--no effort, no authenticity, nothing. The rice was a sticky, tasteless clump, and the beans had zero flavor. It felt like everything was just thrown together with no care at all. What really pushed it over the edge is that the menu doesn't even have prices, so they can charge whatever they want. We ordered ONE breakfast plate, ONE enchilada plate, and TWO drinks... and they charged us $95. That is outrageous. Save your money and go somewhere else. I went in for breakfast on a Friday morning when it wasn't very busy, so I expected decent service, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. The staff was not attentive, and they completely got my order wrong. The burrito I received was honestly not good at all, and my stomach ended up hurting afterward. To make things worse, I had to ask for the bill four separate times before anyone finally brought it over. Overall, the food and service were both disappointing. We went to Sylmar to see the amazing Nethercutt Museum, they had a list of recommended restaurants and El Tarasco was on the list. So we tried it out and really enjoyed our experience. My son had the chicken tacos and I had the beef taquitos, both were delicious. I asked for hot sauce. Expecting either Cholula or Tapatio, I was surprised with some excellent homemade tomatillo, with the just the right spiciness. I also loved the decor and art, nice paintings and wooden crosses. Another thing regarding ambience, I would say the acoustics are on the medium loud side, but the music was not too loud. We ordered both the red and green sauce chilaquiles, and they were absolutely delicious bold flavors, perfectly balanced spice, and topped with a piece of beef that was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The service was exceptional way beyond what we were expecting. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and even let us know that they have a live band every Friday to kick off the weekend. The Menudo was terrible (the tripe was super tough and the hominy looked like it just got poured out of the can). It also had a very watery broth. We had to ask for the cilantro, onions and lime that goes with the menudo. Very limited amount of drinks. We had to just have water. We could hear other customers voicing their complaints. We were very disappointed because we were anxious to try a new restaurant. Will never go there again. read more

I was with a big group of 23 people with a severe time constraint and the restaurant waitstaff were very accommodating. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong item on the menu but the asada tacos were extremely lackluster. Even the sliced radish was bland. Not much flavor in the meat and also slightly grisly in texture. The salsa and chips on the table were equally lacking in flavor. This is puzzling since the restaurant was hopping during the lunch hour so they must be doing something right with their food. Maybe carne asada isn't their forte? However, my horchata was refreshing and delicious. There is interesting decor and artwork throughout the restaurant. One person in our party never got his burrito while we were dining there but the staff did offer it to-go free of charge to make things right. I found out too late that I was overcharged for a combination plate when I only had two a la carte tacos. Regardless, I probably won't be back since I am rarely in the area but, if the opportunity arises, I would certainly try the signature mole and white menudo. read more

This is a lot closer to what I grew up with in Los Angeles and Tucson, Arizona, close to the Reservation there. My first wife was from Chihuahua, and this is closer to her Mom's cooking, and the lady outside of Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, where my Stepmother is from, This is closer to Mexican cooking for me, like my other favorite Mexican restaurants that use the same approach. Besides getting seated fairly quickly and having good service, the food was not good. My bf and I got the chilaquiles and he had steak with his. The food is good but the wait time is long. We got there in a Saturday at 10:40am. We were sat quick, however we didn't get our food till 45 minutes after. We ordered breakfast and instead of rice they put us a hash brown, who eats hash brown with chilaquiles en frijoles? They tried to play it off till we asked them why our food had a hash brown and they said they had ran out of rice. The waitress could have asked us if we wanted something else instead of rice or if we wanted to wait for the rice to be cooked, but no, they decided for us.
