I went to Lemonia for the first time last night and I wasn't disappointed. We were lucky enough to get a table outside which was pure bliss on a hot summer evening in London town. The restaurant has a very lovely homely friendly vibe to it in spite of its obvious popularity. The service was warm, helpful and very fast. Great, fresh, and tasty food in Primrose village. Right when you sit down, you are given a plate of olives and veggies to munch on whilst you browse the many choices on the menu. They have several vegetarian options. Last week, I ended up ordering the set lunch for 10.50 with starter, main, and dessert or coffee. I had hummus, stuffed vegetables, and a cappucino and everything was FANTASTIC! I literally cleaned my plate which never happens. I forget what hubby had cuz I was too busy eating. I suggest going early for lunch as the place fills up quickly. Then walk over to Marine Ices near Chalk Farm station for a gelato. read more

Great food in a warm, busy atmosphere, lots of families, groups of friends, not somewhere if you want a quiet romantic night out really (although their sister restaurant over the road Limani is equally good but smaller and more compact. Lovely conservatory area at the back and private rooms upstairs. A real Primrose Hill institution, reasonably price, book in advance it is very popular. I really, really wanted to like this place. But I don't. I hate it. The location is lovely, Primrose Hill seems to get more than its fair share of sunshine, so the pavement tables are always packed. My first experience was one of dry chicken, good meze, fresh salads, so i thought i'd give it another go. So, one fine afternoon I popped in with a friend, hoping we could share a bottle of wine and some olives at one of the many outdoor tables. Shown to a table, we declined the menu, asking just for a bottle of wine as we had other plans for dinner later that evening. Sorry, you have to leave, you can't come here just for drinks. I wouldn't mind so much if they had been polite and apologised that drinks only is not their policy, would we care to order some food, but the tone was off-putting, so we left. I don't think any restaurant in London has left me quite so annoyed and unlikely to return! read more

Got to go big as I had a terrific dinner here. I went to another restaurant down the street, but they were not able to seat me (1 person? really?). Lemonia, on the other hand, gave me a nice table outdoors on the sidewalk and provided great service throughout my meal. The waiter suggested a side (rice) for my main dish (fresh scallops) that fit perfectly. The brown rice offset the richness of the scampi style scallops. I also had some asparagus that was delicious. With a half bottle of Beaujolais, my meal was complete. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and seemed popular with many patrons who looked like regulars. Food, wine, service, people-watching and a relaxed setting make Lemonia my favorite restaurant in the Primrose Hill area. read more

My other half took me here and it was lovely. Very friendly staff full of character and really proud of of their food. They all made us laugh throughout the evening and the food came in no time. OK, we loved this place. It was a 10 pound taxi up from the Strand area but we wanted some Greek and we wern't dissapointed. We checked the universe at Yelp and found others closer but will lesser qualifications. True Greek we found at Lemonia! Here is how the dinner started: No skordalia on the menu . . .what? Well with the help of the head waiter he was kind enough to whip some up. It needed garlic, lots of garlic but they were kind enough to do it up for us special. Then we asked the head waiter for a Greek wine recomendation. We said sweet, bold and full body meaning low tanins with a kind of berry flavor. He delivered a 22 pound Atlantia Valley Syrah, Cab Sav, Merlot blend. It was awesome. Best Greek wine for my pallet I've ever had. We traveled several districts of UK and found this to be the best prepared meat (lamb) of any of our stops. We had given up on meat and were sticking to fish and the occasional chicken dish. My sweetie had the souvlaki and I had the tavvas. Both were incredible. The tzaziki (needed garlic), dolmathes, and greek salad were very good. The only reason we knocked down the score was because of the lack of garlic in both the skordalia and tzaziki While it is a bit of a trip due to its location from most London hotels, I would recommend it for someone on a meat jag for sure! Autentic Greek. I'm in the pest control business and see a lot of restaraunt kitchens and bathrooms. They tell a story about quality. The restrooms were very clean, well maintained and efficient. Better than average vegetarian options, and consistently good quality in their other meals is what scores this Primrose Hill mainstay restaurant 3 out of 5 for me. Why 3 and not 5, you ask? Primarily because of the stain Lemonia carries from it's privileged local clientele - that is to say, at times it can feel ostentatiously raucous, it's hard to get a table, and the service is taciturn. It's a good place to go to pay probably too much for very good food in a loud environment served by stressed and judgemental Greek old men, where people seem to be equally interested in looking at other tables as at their own in the hopes of spotting the rogue Jude Law or Adam Ant. Without the 'tude it would probably be a 5, but I eat well every time I go, and the 'tude eats two stars. read more

I was born in primrose hill and remember lemonia when it was a pub. Since changing to a restaurant it has become a very welcome addition to the area. I have no idea how this place gets good reviews. While it's a nice atmosphere and has friendly (in a sort of terse way) waiters, the food is just not good, and it's relatively expensive. We tried quite a range - hummus, tzaziki, meatballs, haloumi, pork skewers, spanakopita, and calamari. the best things were the hummus and tzaziki, but really, how can you mess those up, and they each cost over £5 for a little blob. spanakopita was overly salty and soggy, pork was tough and lacked flavor. I'm Greek and this was fantastic. Very close to the original tastes. I was sure that the meats were not british (no offence guys but the meat here is not very good). However I asked and it turns out that, well, it's all in the cooking. I had the (meze) menu for 18.75 which was a selection of cold and hot plates, more or less like Spanish tapas -well as a concept that is. We also ordered a bottle of Moschofilero, which is a Greek white wine from Peloponnese with strong taste. This was at around 17 pounds. The service was the best that I have seen in London. At last somewhere where the tables are cleaned , not only after you leave but even when the courses are changed. They were also blazing fast at bringing our plates. One complain, which is the reason the fifth star could be missing. We were told that we had two hours to eat. Reasonable and it was in a very polite tone, still I didn't like it. All in all, highly recommended but book a table to avoid disappointment or a long queue. read more

We came here for a pre-theatre dinner at the Roundhouse on a Friday evening. The customer service was great in that it catered to our speedy service request to be wined and dined within an hour. I was however not that impressed by the quality of the food despite some of the great reviews. I have definitely tasted better food for sure. The rice tasted like it was made by someone who didn't understand rice. The interior is pleasant however with white washed walls, dark wooden beams and a bit of greenery.. so perhaps for a quick atmospheric meal to make sure your tummy doesn't grumble at the theatre, it is OK. read more
