Similar to Kauai, I live in a state that banks big on tourism. Similar to Kauai, New Mexico is a place that doesn't sell out (define that as you may) and has a lot of cultural soul, historic pride and sly personality, as opposed to our neighboring southwestern states. While the average tourist brings home a suitcase of dreamcatchers (most likely made in China) and moccasins (made in Minnesota), the best goods are produced by local artists. While I won't say By The Sea is a purveyor of strictly local finds, if you spend some time digging, you'll dig what you find around here. Shirts and hats are simply cooler than anything I'd seen anywhere else. I can't define cool, it just is, you'll know it when you see it. High quality products produced in America.
