I'm a Finn from MI. Have eaten many a pasty. This ranks as one of the worst. Thin sliced (not cubed) layers of potato, no evidence of any other vegetable and only a tiny bit of meat. These are the best pasties that I have ever had. Simple ingredients, original recipe and stuffed. Thin crust was very tasty as was the filling. One flavor, fresh, frozen or cold. All good. A little place but I am glad we found it. We will be back next trip to the Upper. With so much competition, they are the best. Best pasty I have ever had, my go to place when I get to the UP. They have two locations. One is right across from the ferry to Mackinaw Island, the other one is a few miles west on US-2. The crust is unlike any other, as it is so thin, tasty and flakey. These pasties are stuffed with meat and mostly potatoes, and maybe a few other veggies. The gravy to dip them is in is an added treat. I highly recommend Lentos Pasties. read more

All the 'popular' restaurants were so busy Sat night but I found this quiet little pastie shop. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I ordered a veggie pastie and can't recognize all the vegs but their gravy is the best ever. I'll be back next year. read more

OMG it was my first time having pasties and just WOW!!!!! I can definitely say I will go back lots. The prices are a tad bit high but its totally worth it! Although there is a Lehto's in downtown nothing can beat the Lehto's outside of town. All I can say is I highly recommend to go!!! read more

Stopped here to try a pasty. Reviews seemed great. Walked in and the place is old and dingy. OK, some of the best food comes from places like this. Owner, ( I think she said was the niece of the founder ) was talkative and friendly. I ordered 2 beef pastys and took them to the morel about 3 miles down the road. The crust is nice on these. But the filling was a bit tasteless in comparison. Was a bit greasy and mushy too. Maybe I hit a bad day? I was the only one there at the time. Now if they would make a turkey one like Susies it may have been different but they do not make those here. Susies filling in one of these crusts would have made a perfect pasty in my opinion. But other than that I found nothing to really rave about. read more

This is a good place if u want a pasty, aside from Suzys Pasties, quick and local. They are arguably more expensive, but taste okay. My favorite in the entire U.P. is Lawrys in Marquette, but Lehtos is good for this area. read more

It's all about the true to recipe product at Lehto's. Nothing more than a wood shack on the roadside with probably the best pasties in the world. The U.P. has some of the best pasties and Lehto's started in 1947 in this same location and building. One oven hot pasty was all I needed. They have a small selection of sodas available. The more than reasonably priced pasty can hold the hungriest man for hours. It's simple, walk up and say how many you want. There is one type only, nothing pimped up to meet Foodies expectations of ginger, soy, tofu etc. The thinner crust allows for more ingredient of ground beef, rutabaga, onion, potatoes and mild spices. The real clincher is to look at the bottom of a pasty. It should have a slight singe from the buttery crust. It's fairly easy to eat by hand although some ingredients are sure to spill out so best not to eat while driving. The pasty is served steaming hot so beware when biting. It's probably best to poke holes in the top to allow some cooling. read more

One thing on the menu, beef pasty. $6. I'd seen pictures of them but was not sure what to expect with the filling. Beef, potato, onion and rutabaga. Both of us thought the crust was thin, flakey, and tasty but the interior ingredients were overly chopped (minced instead of diced) so the interior ingredients mashed into a mass instead of maintaining their own flavors. There was no color other than gray on the interior, even the carrots. We bought four of the same, two were frozen and tasted the same so they were consistent. Visited late 7/2017. read more

This was my first time having a pastie and sense im a picky eater I didnt think I was going to like them. I was completely wrong! These were amazing the crust was flaky and it was overall great. The people inside were really nice and it was just a small little shack. There was no seats but you dont need them because you'll be done within seconds after you get them. Great road stop on our way to the bridge, the crust was terrific, lots of great filling, and priced right at $6. The downside, if there was one, is that there were no bathroom facilities so we needed to get back in the car and drive another half mile. That's not a deal breaker per se, but it's always nice to have the option to wash your hands before or after you eat. read more

These were okay. We picked one up and split it (the man cut it in half for us) to eat on a road trip and it was good. You can buy them frozen. There is no seating. This was our second try of a Pasty and this one was MUCH better than the first we tried. The only kind they have (that I saw) was beef. It was large enough for two and was a little cheaper than the ones we had tried a couple of days before. So far our favorite for a pasty but we have decided that this regional favorite is not our favorite. read more

After viewing the Lehto's website we were excited to stop and try out the offerings. Unfortunately all they had was one standard pastie. One of our party doesn't eat meat so wanted the veggie pastie offered on the web site. Tough luck. Before we ordered we asked to use the bathroom and they said "no." I ordered a dozen of their beef pasties for delivery. They were packaged in three bags of four and in a Styrofoam cooler with an ice pack plus an instruction card for how to bake them. The pasties are huge - one is a more than filling meal. If you want to add a small salad or fruit, half a pastie is plenty. For those who are new to pasties (pass-tees), they are a meat pie that originated in Cornwall, England. They became very popular among the Finns and are common in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Online, Lehto's also offers chicken and veggie options. Beef pasties are the traditional variety, and are served with gravy, although ketchup is the preferred sauce among some. I have not tried the chicken or veggie varieties, but I wouldn't object to the opportunity. The description of the veggie filling sounded incredible, save for the mushrooms. However, my guess is that the pieces of mushroom would be large enough for me to locate and avoid. If you're looking for something different and want to support an independent business, give them a go. read more

Drove across the bridge during a high wind just to stop by Lehtos. Grabbed a few hot to eat for lunch, and some frozen for later. The pasty are beef with potato, and rutabaga. They cost $6.00 and each one is at least a half a pound in weight. Flaky crust and steaming inside. I serve them at home with apple sauce and sour cream. The frozen ones reheat easy on 350 for about 50 minutes or so. read more

If you are looking for the real deal this is it. Why would anyone eat at a franchise when you go to the UP is missing the point in my point of view. I'm from Michigan and have had the pleasure of many different pasties and can attest to the tastiness of Lehto's. I stopped by on a whim (there are many different places you can get them in the area). I am glad I did. The biggest difference between these pasties and the others I've had is the crust. It is lighter and flakier than most others I've eaten. The ingredients inside are well mixed as well. I've been told they are a bit of an acquired taste (my wife doesn't understand why I like them), but if you've had one before and enjoy them, give one of these a try. I purchased two last time. They were cold (not frozen as the sign inside said I could have them). I put them in the cooler and drove the rest of the 3 hours home. They did put them in a freezer bag for me to keep them from the ice/water in my cooler. I put them in for 30 minutes at 300 degrees and they were good to go. read more
