Leeber Cohen has been my eye doctor for several years. He is patient, listens, and will see you right away if you are having a problem. When he thinks it is necessary he will advise you to see another doctor for a specific issue. I trust him and very thankful to have found him. read more

just like all the 5 star reviews of Dr Cohen say, he's excellent, very organised which was reassuring, very nice and his staff are lovely. probably most important: he both diagnosed cyst inside of my pigmented lower eyelid correctly AND referred me to an excellent oculoplastic surgeon who did a really excellent extraction and biopsy. I highly recommend Dr Cohen both for regular annual eye checks and care AND for his referrals if you need more work done. read more

Organized office with efficient staff. The waiting room is mostly full but wait is not. One of the reasons might be how efficient Dr. Cohen operates his office. He records his assessment (and dingoes or concerns if any) precisely to his small voice recorder (many in his drawer) while I am sitting in a room with him. Recording (writing) by staff later. He is as sloppy as it can get and very ignorant of his domain knowledge. He should go back to school and redo his "MD". I highly doubt the professionalism of Dr Cohen. First he updated my prescription by just putting two pieces of small glasses in front of my EXISTING eye glasses TOGETHER and asked whether the original feels better or afterwards feels better. He doesn't even test the two eyes separately! Horrible! He says "if it doesn't work come back to me" Sounds like you are paying for my glasses! How can I trust such a sloppy prescription! Second I have an existing eye condition which I have learnt from my previous eye doctor. He should've noticed and warned me but he did not seem to notice it and told me my eyes are healthy, ehhh...... Third when I told my previous eye doctor I had dry eyes he was able to diagnose the reason (MGD) and give me several practical practices like warm compresses, fish oil etc. Cohen didn't even bother to find out the root of my dry eye problem, and only said rest 20 seconds every 20 minutes when staring at the computer. Even I know more than him what to do with dry eyes! In summary, He didn't diagnose ANY of my existing conditions, didn't say anything useful about the dry eye problem I am having, and gave a prescription so sloppy that I have to do it over again. Horrible! I have been billed an unexpected $1000 in an dental office before and I didn't bother to leave a negative review. But this time I just have to send the warning to people who are considering going to this doctor. Health is more important than money. God bless those who think they are in good hands in this obviously unqualified doctor. read more

Dr. Cohen is one of the best ophthalmologists in Manhattan, NY! I would definitely recommend him if you need to see an eye specialist. He really takes care of his patients and has a lot of experience in the field for many years and has completed many years of certificates and speciality degrees. With high prescription, I still see a real good doctor. - Aug 2, right eye pressure went high. High enough to make the vision blurry. I went to see Doctor No. 1 immediately. He prescribed me Combigan (eye drop for glaucoma); didn't say it's glaucoma but use it to control pressure; referred 2 doctors for further consultation. I booked Dr. No.2 right away online and didn't give it too much thought. - Aug 7, Dr. No 2 gave me 10 minutes to explain everything, saying it's glaucoma for sure and ask me to keep using the drops. I stepped out of her office, totally panic as no convincing answer and no "brighter future" for a young lady. Finally, Doctor No. 3- Dr. Cohen. His office gave me a complete exam, took like an hour. Followed by his personal exam, including 3-time right eye pressure checking. He came to the conclusion. In short, 1) Combigan usually won't result in a dramatic drop of eye pressure; 2) my eyes shows no other typical glaucoma symptoms. His suggestion is to quite the drop the keep observing. Today is my second visit, eye pressure is in normal range and I will go back in 3 months. Taking Combigan is a life-long routine. It's frustrating by just thinking of it. Dr. Cohen took the right action based on the facts showed so far and explained everything clearly and professionally with full consideration. I feel safe in his hands. read more

I have been going to Dr. Cohen for injectibles for years now and have been extremely happy with the results as well as the level of his care and professionalism. I was very clear that I was having problems with my vision. Maybe you shouldn't comment when you don't know what you are talking about. People can have entirely different experiences. Dr. Cohen saved my life. Simple as that. He is the single nicest, most competent and most compassionate doctor I have ever encountered. The staff is, without exception, professional, friendly, easy to work with, easy to communicate with, competent and I'm just realizing as I write this review that they are completely effective at making a typically anxiety producing experience one that is an absolute pleasure. The short version of my story is that I was given a referral to Dr. Cohen and the general doctor making the referral didn't take my situation seriously. I was essentially blind in my left eye. When I got the referral info, I called his office and said "I think this maybe shouldn't wait." Dr. Cohen called me back, and agreed - mind you, he had never met me before. He saw me the next day, and the day after that I was in the hospital for treatment. Within 3 days, my vision was completely restored. He saw something very rare in my eye that would have killed me if it went untreated for much longer. I do not exaggerate one bit when I say that Dr. Cohen saved my life. If you need an eye doctor, he is a supremely qualified one. He accepts lots of insurance. When you thank Dr. Cohen, he says, "My pleasure." I believe him, and it always makes my day when I hear him say it. He really is the best. And it's *my pleasure* to finally write something publicly about what he did for me after all these years because I really owe my life to him. I am personally offended by the carelessness displayed in the 3 negative reviews, and anyone taking the time to read them would question the soundness of their reasoning. I have a particular beef with the review from Eve. As you see above, I was brought right in. The above was in 2002. In 2017, the staff is still as caring and conscientious - I got pink eye last week, and called the office at 2:30pm and was asked to come right in. Eve, did you perhaps reach the answering service, because twice in a span of 15 years I have had exactly the opposite experience of you for one huge problem with my eyesight and, well, one that could have frankly waited a day or so. Writing a negative review because you withheld information from a doctor and he didn't diagnose any of your preexisting conditions is some kind of problem that an eye doctor is never going to help you with, lady. Your eyesight is not some prize on a gameshow. Sheesh! I have never waited so long in Dr. Cohen's office that I wanted to complain, but I can tell you that i have been apologized to by both the staff and Dr. Cohen a few times when obviously I must have waited longer than they would have liked. It is my perception, but necessarily an accurate recollection, that morning appointments usually go faster. Regardless, it will be obvious to anyone that goes to Dr. Cohen that variances in waiting times are OBVIOUSLY because he rushes no one, and takes all the time that is needed to be thorough and complete. I have been a patient of Dr. Cohen's since 1993. I was a very young person then and always appreciated his thoroughness and his attention to detail. Every year since '93, i have made my annual visit to his office (went today, in fact!). I always look forward to seeing him as he is unlike most doctors you'll encounter these days. He spends a lot of time with his patients and thoroughly reviews all options and recommendations. I had a melanoma removed many years ago and he meticulously checks my eyes to make sure no cells have migrated to the back of the eye, which can happen with this disease. He is a warm, kind person and will answer any questions without hesitation or frustration. If a longer wait, or a response you don't like from the office personnel, is enough to keep you away, then your loss. I recommend him to everyone i know and they all speak highly of him, too.
