I don't usually write a lot of reviews, but I had to today. Dr. Nachum is a GREAT eye doctor. Ridiculously thorough, and so very helpful. I had two previous eye doctors, and well, they are not anymore. In these days and times with what is going on now, nothing will stop Dr. Nachum from helping his patients. He'll never abandon you unless there is a zombie apocalypse, but I'm not even sure about that. It's easy to picture Dr. Nachum picking up a shovel and giving it to the zombies just to make it in to help his patients. read more

I write this review with disappointment. Dr. Nachum suggested that - for a pair of eyeglasses which I would be wearing *all* the time, to have the blue-light blocking coating since I work in front of a computer. I accepted the advice of the doctor, and opted for the $90 more option to do so. In the past year after continuously wearing these eyeglasses, I noticed that I was not sleeping well as before, and also felt increasingly lethargic. It was only after conducting an eye-exam with a different doctor did I discover that it was an *absolute mistake* to wear blue-blocking lenses all the time. More egregious is the fact that this is common knowledge - that no one should be wearing blue-blocking all the time - it disrupts circadian rhythms and moods. It is difficult for me to presume that Dr. Nachum did not know about this. I am saddened to think that Dr. Nachum - who so casually asserted that the glasses he prescribed are fine to wear all the time - did so to go after putting an extra charge on my eyeglasses. Fast, friendly and efficient - the doctor did a good job and answered all my questions

Dr Nachum is great however he runs it just like any other business. There's a $50 test that everyone has to get even if they don't need/want it and the results of that weren't even discussed or shared. The receptionists are really rude and extremely unprofessional with the exception of Michael who was dominated by the two ladies who are not understanding and feel like they own the whole practice. read more

Dr Nachum has the ability to be a good, honest doctor. But my experience with him was subpar. He charged $50 for a contact lens test I didn't need, so that I'd have to try new lenses. He also changed my eyeglasses prescription perhaps with the hope that I'd purchase new glasses with him. In the end, when I took my prescription elsewhere, it turned out that the prescription was off - the main prescription was fine but the astigmatism was completely off. And in fact, my current/old glasses prescription is just fine and I see great with them, so I really can't understand the reason for the new, stronger prescription other than he hoped that I'd get new glasses. I won't be going to him again. Btw, regarding the comment from the Nachum office, my files can't be found because my username is a pseudonym. Also, checking my records almost seems to be violating privacy and HIPAA rules. Who does that at a doctors office?? read more

I am a patient.. First time having a VSP plan.. Since it is simply located 5 minutes walk away from the place I work... I chose to come to Dr Nachum. Dr Nachum is really friendly and take her time to explain to me lots of stuff.. The healthiness of my eyes and which contact lens solution I should use.. Some eye drop to maintain my eyes.. should I or should not change my glasses. Take her time to ask about my health history. I can see that she is very knowledgeable. Her assistant was pretty funny as well.. Explain to me how to use my solution.. Oh Dr. Nachum offered me for free.. :) Overall.. I will definitely come back to Dr. Nachum in the future... read more

Nice office, friendly doc, but very "hands off" on the glasses delivery. I made a trip to his office as my wife had seen him before, and he is under my vision plan. The glasses took a bit to be made, but I was okay with that. When they came in, they were handed to be and I was dismissed. No offer to check fit, nor do any adjustments. It was the same for my wife as well. Since I cannot give 2.5 stars, I am rounding down, as it seems less than "A-Ok" Perhaps if you have more money to spend there, you get more personalized care. read more

I have visited Dr. Nachum a handful of times now for soft contact fittings. Dr. Nachum is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced optometrist. His staff members are helpful and down to earth. My visits there have been efficient and quite painless, as I am one who hates going to doctors. Their facility is pristine and quiet too which makes for a likable experience as far as doctor visits are concerned. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Nachum and his staff. I booked this appointment mostly out of convenience, as I work in the same building. When I arrived I had to wait no longer than 5 minutes to see the doctor. He was friendly and informative, and the staff at the front desk was kind as well. I recently realized I mis-placed my prescription, so I called the office to see if they would be able to email it to me. The woman I spoke with was polite and helpful, and emailed me my prescription within minutes! read more

Meh. Wait time- about 15 min. I went to get contacts and have my eyes checked. Had to pay $50. They always want you to do this eye scan that looks around your whole eye (including the back of your eyes). I had it done once, and they asked me to do it again, and the doctor seemed offended that I didn't want to do it again (its not covered by insurance either). Front desk staff are just ok. read more

Dr Nachum took (/takes) his Hippocratic Oath seriously. During my morning commute something flew in my eye. I was fine initially; however an hour in and I felt like Ralph from Rampage--the classic arcade game. Unable to focus and incapable of sitting still, I walked across the street to the closest optometrist. Having recently moved from California, my out of state insurance was not an accepted provider at this office. However, seeing I was in pain, Dr. Nachum offered to treat me immediately and at a discounted price. All in all, would do business again, A++ seller, fast and speedy delivery, prompt reception despite no reservation. p.s. Dr. Nachum, if you're reading this, fire the front desk lady who wore black today. She's the morbidly obese one who is the source of all the aggravation, poor reviews, and disgruntled customers. I have read the reviews and we all AGREE that Dr. Nachum is an excellent Doctor. The 5 stars go to Dr. Nachum. He is a great Doctor who is very knowledgeable about his craft. He explains every thing and gives a thorough eye exam. He does not rush through your exam like most boutique places do. He is so Good - I took my mom there and her eye issues are no more and has been prescribe the right pair of glasses with a prescription that is right for her. I also recommended a close friend who had only good things to say about her experience and Dr. Nachum. About the staff............. my first year going to Dr. Nachum - I was not CRAZY about the staff at all......... there was attitude there. My second and third year........ the staff has changed and there is this nice lady there who smiles and is always very nice...... When she is there - she handles all the patients. She has very good people skills. In a nutshell - Dr. Nachum is a great doctor. And the staff could be more personable and build on their people skills with the exception of than one nice young lady who also helps with the glasses. read more

Dr. Nachum had a great bedside manner and was very thorough with his examination. I felt that he was kind and patient and explained everything in an understandable way. He is in an ideal location if you work in lower Manhattan and I was able to get an appointment quickly. His staff was friendly on the phone, patient and very professional. Contrary to some previous comments on the staff, I've found them always incredibly competent and friendly, and Dr. Nachum himself can always be counted on to be kind, efficient, and knowledgeable in my appointments. I have only positive things to say about my eye appointments! I've recommended this practice to a few coworkers in the Financial District, all of whom say the same. Would definitely extend that recommendation to Yelpers as well. read more

I like Dr. Nachum well enough & if it weren't for his front desk & assistants I would've contiued using him. The front desk is totally uninterested in actually helping their patients & very very rude. My mistake was that I went back for a second year. They are very rude & refuse to give you your prescriptions because they only want you to purchase through them. I've been "disconnected" from them while trying to make appointments or request the information that I would need to submit a claim or just get my prescription (ps - it is illegal for them NOT to give you the prescription). They will not share ANY information over the phone. They make you come into the office for any & all paperwork requested. I believe this is their way of hoping that you will not follow through with your request. I've never dealt with an office like this & will never again. I've actually called VSP to complain to let them know how horrendous this office is. DO NOT GO!!! read more

I was a customer of Dr Nachum for the past 4 years. While he is a good doctor, his staff are unbelievably rude, disinterested in their jobs and unprofessional. After many screwups by this staff I've just had enough. There is no reason or excuse for employing people who treat their customers in such a shameful manner. The office manager in particular 'Ciarra' is one of the most rude and arrogant people I have ever had to do business with. Terrible service. Went to him one year ago when he charged me $45 fee for 'Contact Lense evaluation' because I am a new customer. Fast forward a year when I scheduled a check up, and was charged another $50 and was told each year I renew my prescription I will have to pay this fee. Lost a customer here.... That is not the standard for renewing contact lense prescriptions as a 15+ years user. read more

I work in the same building, so despite some of the reviews here, when I saw that they took my insurance I decided to take a chance and give this office a chance. And I am glad that I did. I actual saw Dr. Israel and she was awesome. She was thorough, patient and didn't waste my time. As for the office staff...maybe they read some of the reviews and made some changes but I found them to be friendly and efficient. They even filled out the paperwork for my contact lens rebate for me. And unlike other ophthalmologist's offices I have been to, no one here pushed me to buy anything I didn't need. This is for Dr. Nachum. The one think I always appreciate here is that they are timely, you don't have to wait for half an hour before you're seen, you are seen when you were scheduled to be seen. Dr. Nachum seems very knowledgeable, and always explains exactly what is going on with my eyes. I can also attest to the back eye test, I've had it done and it's very helpful, it discovered something on my eye that may not have been discovered otherwise. Also, after years of declining the test, it's actually an alternative to another test you get that less comfortable and more difficult (you have to get your eye dilated), I finally chose to do it and I think it was worth every penny! I have also found that the whole staff is very helpful and kind. On multiple occasions, more than one spent the time giving me their opinions on which glasses they thought looked better on me. While I'll admit that the glasses selection isn't the best, I personally find it more convenient to get my glasses at the office then taking it else where. I would highly recommend him and in fact already have done on multiple occasions. read more

Dr. Israel rushes. I told her that my eyes were dry and that my previous OD had verified this in an examination. Dr. Israel went on and on and generally advised me. I had to stop her to ask her to please check for my eyes dryness. The office staff's competency and friendliness is just as important, and unfortunately, they were incompetent and unfriendly. The receptionist who verifies insurance coverage slammed the phone down and placed the call on speaker phone while I waited for her to verify my insurance coverage. When I told her that her nasty behavior was unnecessary, she had nothing to say. No apology. I also paid $150 for a "new contact lens fitting and eye exam." The hunt is on for a new OD. read more

Went in for a standard routine eye exam today. Was charged $50 extra for a contact lens exam, but was not told of the extra charge until after the exam. They have a shady way of letting you know of the fee afterwards the exam so you have no choice but to pay it or else they will not release your prescription. I left the office very upset and turned around to come back for something I forgot and saw most of the office staff in a circle, laughing at what appear to be me. It was very uncomfortable and even more upsetting. They did not apologize for any confusion, simply made it sound like I should have known. I signed nothing that said there was an extra fee. Also, the fee they were charging should not have applied to me since he just renewed the same RX I have had for the last 3 years. I actually had to tell him what the prescription was so that it could be wrote out. I do not recommend Dr. Nachum. read more

Dr. Nachum charged me $100 more for Kate spade sunglasses than I would have paid had I bought them at Kate spade. When I asked the dr. to honor the Kate spade price, he refused, even after I told him I wouldn't return!! He does not care about customer service whatsoever and way overcharges for his frames! read more

Really not impressed with this place. After seeing the good reviews for Dr. Israel on Zocdoc, I made an appointment because it's close to my office. I expressed that I felt that my vision had deteriorated slightly and that I may need an updated prescription. She rushed through the entire exam and told me that my vision had not changed, and them pressed me to purchase her contacts/glasses. Luckily, I trusted my gut and went to a different eye doctor a few months later, paying out of pocket since my insurance would not cover a second checkup (I'd rather pay the $80 out of pocket instead of dealing with Dr. Israel and her staff again). The new doctor found a -.5 difference. Go figure. Needless to say, I can see much better now and will definitely not be going back to this optometrist moving forward. read more

I would've given this visit a 4 stars if the staff were a little more experiences with the procedures and steps for the consultation for a patient's first visit ...is it LACK of communication between the Dr and his staff? After dilating my eyes and going through the haggle of selling their glasses (looks like that's more important to them, felt like I was dealing with "car salesman"). I paid for the visit and the new glasses and I walked out of the office. The staff did not remember to tell me that I should stay longer to be seen by the Doctor again ( that was the reason, he dilated my eyes in the first place) ...When I went to pick up the glasses several days later , the staff then mentioned the whole situation to me. I then asked if I will be credited ($40.00) or redo the dilation - since he did not examine me after the dilation process...The office staff said : " no credit, you will have to pay again next time" That is NOT acceptable. I wonder if that is what they do to most of their customers??? Rush them through the system, just to sell them glasses !!! read more

This review is specifically in relation to the terrible customer service. The doctor is good, but his staff are dreadful. I currently am sitting on hold and have been for over 10 minutes. Nearly every time I call, the receptionists say "Dr. Nachum, please hold" and immediately put you on hold for long periods of time before you can get a peep out. Today I called to see what time they closed and sat on hold for over ten minutes for an answer that would have taken less than 10 seconds of their time. This really needs to improve - there is no excuse for this. read more

I had to switch eye doctors based on a change in my vision insurance. I saw Dr. Israel. It was easy to get an appointment, the doctor was running on time, and she did a great job of explaining the process as she went. I had an annual exam and got an updated contact lens prescription. While it took a little longer than the 'quick 20 minute eye exam' all of the time was spent with the doctor going through the various tests. I would certainly recommend based on both medical competency and overall experience. read more
