There was about 8 of us and we were seated downstairs in the bar area at a high top. Despite there being a reservation, it felt like our party was a last minute thought. The table was cramped and the ambiance of the downstairs bar area was dingy and dimly-lit. Our server, who was also the only bartender, did his best to multi task all night, although his demeanor was not very warm or friendly. I ordered the gluten free version of the Samantha fettuccine. Despite this being the only noodle they don't make in house, I had to pay extra for it. Annoying, but not totally unexpected. What was disappointing was the total price for the dish. It came out to be almost $50.... I believe the pasta is marked as market price due to the inclusion of crab meat but when it arrived, there was barely any in the dish. The flavor of the sauce was good but definitely not worth the price tag. I won't be returning anytime soon.

We had a lot of questions, and he was really helpful! We started with the pane rotundo, which I'd never had before, and it was really good. For my meal, I ordered the shrimp Ricardo. It was supposed to be spicy, but I'd put it at a medium spice level. It had just enough heat for me without making my mouth feel like it was on fire lol. It was so good that I ate the whole thing! I was hungry, but still . Everyone else at the table really enjoyed their food too. I'd definitely come back if I'm in Baltimore City again looking for a good meal!

We had a ragu dish topped with mushrooms, carbonara, and Kobe beef meatball topped with ricotta and pistachios. For drinks my husband got the Italian guy and I had the limoncello blush. Lastly, they surprised me with desert and a sparkler candle. I was truly impressed. I opted for the brunch option vs from the regular menu because I wasn't super hungry. So, I got a salad and a main with a cocktail. The caesar salad is dressed well and I liked how shredded the lettuce was. The flavor was just what I wanted from this salad. My lemoncello spritz was very tasty and refreshing. I also opted for the fried eggplant stuffed with spinach and I'm so glad I did. The zucchini paired with it was delicious and I would mix a piece with the fried eggplant roll-up. The sauce they use is very good. My food came out hot and prepared just how I wanted. My server checked on me regularly. I was able to listen to my audiobook with one earbud in without issue and just enjoy myself because it was a slow time.

I'm continuing my quest to eat meatballs at every single Little Italy restaurant, and La Tavola…read moremissed quite a few marks for me while hitting others. First, the restaurant is gorgeous. It's one of the most beautiful spots in Little Italy, which is saying something. They use a lot of mirrors, which makes the space feel enormous, and based on ambiance alone, it would make a fantastic date spot. I ordered a flight of bruschetta, the meatballs, a tagliere of meats and cheeses, and the Culurgiones, an herb-forward stuffed pasta. The bruschettas tasted good, but they were soggy. It felt like either the bread hadn't been toasted enough or they had sat assembled for too long. Bruschetta should have some crunch and structure; these didn't. The tagliere was fine, but a little boring. More disappointing, the meats had that industrial, processed taste I associate with inexpensive domestic deli meats from the grocery store. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing on the board made me want another bite, either. The meatballs were okay, and I'd probably order them again, but I've had much better elsewhere in Little Italy. Up to that point, the meal had mostly been a collection of "fine." Where La Tavola really lost me, though, was the Culurgiones. These are supposed to be stuffed with a potato mixture rife with saffron, pennyroyal, and other herbs. What I got tasted like pasta stuffed with mashed potatoes from a box. They were incredibly bland. Every so often I'd catch a hint of mint, but if there was saffron in there, I'd be shocked, especially since the filling remained almost completely pale, and saffron generally isn't shy about announcing itself with some colour. I ate one or two and called it quits. Biting into pasta and getting a mouthful of dry instant-potato flavour just wasn't my vibe. Maybe I ordered wrong, and there may be dishes here that shine. The room certainly does. But based on what I had, this one just didn't hit for me.

Also ordered a Caesar salad which unfortunately did not come (again, the delivery had other issues so I don't think it was the fault of the restaurant). My bf loved the cheese ravioli. I'm still looking for a smooth sauce for some chicken parm, but no worries since the menu here has plenty of different sauce options! I enjoyed the chicken francese. The chicken was very tender and it was a generous portion. I felt it could have used a bit more flavor, but the sauce was a nice consistency and the linguine was cooked perfectly. Dalesios of Little Italy has been open since 1984 and has been serving great Italian dishes in the heart of Baltimore's Little Italy. Walking inside, the restaurant is tastefully decorated. It screams old world, European charm with it's unique art adorning the walls. I'm seated in the first dining room, closest to the front door. There's a bar inside this room which adds to the Italian decor. First time here, I don't know the restaurants portion sizes. Is it family style where one plate can feed a small army? The portion size was perfect. I ordered a nice glass of Italian wine and the Scampi & Crab Alla Sardegna. The pasta dish was amazing. The pasta was cooked perfect al dente and the Scampi & Crab sauce was something unique to Baltimore. It's Crab & Shrimp simmered in a cognac, garlic & tomato cream sauce. All of this goodness is served over linguine. I love Maryland Crabs and to have them topped in a pasta dish makes my heart sing. I highly recommend this dish. My waiter was very informative, he made some great dinner suggestions but I first had to try the Scampi & Crab Alla Sardegna. The next time I come I'm going to order the Lasagna!
