Batata Sweet Potato

There is nothing more Puertorrican than arroz con gandules y lechón. This place is a gem if you are looking for typical food from Puerto Rico at a rural scenery. The price is more than affordable. Strongly recommended.

We come here every year as we have family in this area. This time the serving was a ton of rice, some pork and some of whatever other item you get. I felt that the pork was dry. However, still tasty. The staff is quick and friendly and this spot is always with a line. It's very affordable: 2 plates being $19 and change. You cannot sit here and eat. You'd have to treat it like a drive thru and then find a parking spot somewhere to eat it.

Pork, yucca and Maduras

The best yucca of my life!! Even my husband who doesn't like this yucca dish said it was amazing.we arrived near closing and he had very little left. We bought the last 2 lbs of pork. The skin was so crunchy and delicious. The cook speaks decent English so tourists will be fine. What you are looking at is $26 with a Coke. Everything is separate and sold by weight. The bloom sausage my husband said was very delicious. The pig is cooked on a grill not charcoal. All seating is outside but covered. Very clean bathroom for women but no soap dispenser. Fun seeing local abuelos sitting outside and drinking.

This hole in the wall, impossible to find without the most progressive gps is a gem in the mountains of Puerto Rico. In fact if you land in San Juan airport you should just get an uber and find yourself here. ASAP. So, there's a long line outside the front of this charming joint with the main attraction a young homie welding a machete at the fully through and through flavored roasted pigs, lechon asada. Now, you think you know pig till you meet this pork right here. The skin is crunchy and juicy, and the meat melts right off into your mouth with salty juices that make you happy. It all feels so right. You pass simple hot trays with the following staples: sweet potatoes- taste like candy, end of story. (Dare you to disagree), boiled Green banana, yuca with olives, peppers and onions (escheviche) which is outstanding. Also, blood sausage and a variety of homemade pies consisting of calabaza coco, vanilla. So ladies and gents, get your booties out here and then go explore the camuy caves and the nearby town of lares which is precious. Happy tummy here, do yourself a favor and make it a must on your next trip! Ps - total for 4 people was under $40!!!

Lechon with rice

It was a 4.5 for me. Street food is dope! Lechon here is awsome, not like the philippines but still great. Stopped by here because I was in the mood for lecheon. Drove from San Juan to come here after visiting Cuevo Ventana, I'm glad I was not disappointed. This place reminded me of the philippines, the forest was behind us with a river running through it. I can hear the wildlife too, especially the frogs. First of all 3 loaded plates with 3 cans of coke for $21 was a great deal. LECHON WITH RICE: 10/10 Pros: Tasted amazing, especially when you dab in some of that vinager and hot sauce. A close second to filipino style lecheon. Portion size great. The presentation wasn't pro but who cares when the dish was amazing. Cons: Nothing that I could think of.

Family size portions menu.

Great restaurant. Currently No eating in. Is more of pass thru drive in. Curve side service. The roasted pork is made to perfection, right amount of seasoning. Several side options (see attached image). The staff is professional as courteous. The food was served quickly and accurately. Portions are generous. The pork skin is incredibly crunchy! If you. If you in the Area or passing thru, stop by. The images are real. For us, it was a long wait to experience roasted pork and is was worth the wait. Prices are very reasonable.

OMG. DELISH! Hit the spot. In PR for a week and taking advantage of local fare. My mom has gone here many many times she said... recommends! The batatas were perfectly cooked and sweet. The yuca tasty. I also had the morcilla (blood daisy); soft and just the right amount heat (pique). Great stop!

I will now become a vegetarian... This is the apex of pork. The pinnacle of pig. I now feel there is nowhere left to go but vegetarian. I cannot image pork being done any better and as a professional chef, I am humbled. As many versions of rice and peas as I've made , they will never taste like the arroz con gandules here. The blood sausage was delicious, if you like blood sausage. The array of sides are traditional, authentic af, and delicious. Please keep in mind, this is a roadside pig stand. In the middle of nowhere you will stand in line. There are no professional cooks and no sign of food service latex gloves. There are flies and cats and dogs and plastic plates and utensils. And you should be f*cking grateful to wait for the noble pig that you will receive.

This Lechonera on the south side of Route 129 just west of the exit of the Rio Caves in Camuy offers a tasty traditional roast pig. So if you're exiting the park, make a left and it is literally several hundred yards away on your left hand side towards Lares direction. This was our third day in PR and having circuling a about 3/4 of the island, we visited the lechoneras in Guavate also and this place also brings a flavorful and juicy roasted pork. When you're a visitor on vacation and drive by this place, it seems run down and just not a place you'd stop in if you were at home. But leaving the caves, the guard at the gate recommended to go to an establishment that upon reading many many reviews from various sites, they warned not to go to the recommended eating establishment. So therefore, to combat our hunger we decided to stop into Rancho T. When we pulled up, there were many cars and local Police vehicles (at least 5) were just leaving the establishment with food to-go. On top of that, the line was long for the lechon, the parking lot was full...so it says a lot about it. The order was as follows- Lechon for 2 - Plentiful and tasteful! The meat was moist and that pork was well seasoned all around. The pork skin was tasty and extremely crispy (how I like it), but just a bit on the salty side. The plate was just right for two with just a piece to spare... Yuca - Very yummy and tasty. The mojo that the yuca was topped with was delicious. It had onions, garlic, red and green peppers, olives, and oil. This paired with the yuca was DEEEEELISH! Arroz con Gandules - Seasoned yellow rice with pigeon peas. The rice just came out as we were approaching our turn in line. Am I glad, because the rice was seasoned lightly and not overly salty to pair with the salty pork was just right! Rice was soft and hot! Morcilla - Blood sausage. Greatly satisfying! This probably was the best one the I've had throughout the trip. The others that I've tried were mainly rice rather than the blood cake in the sausage filling. The one at Rancho T was flavorful, mixed with the right amount of fat and very little 'fillers.'

Arroz con gandules, yuca, y lechon.

WARNING: if you eat lunch here, you will immediately fall asleep, skip dinner, belch porky goodness, and will still feel full until breakfast. We stopped here after a day at Camuy Caves expecting local down and dirty food. The food was OK - standard fare. I do not think it is still known as Lechonera Rancho T. The pictures show the front of the establishment, everything is the same except that "Lechonera Rest - Rancho T" were painted over.

lechon, sweet plantain, beans & rice, sweet potato

We were starving after visiting cueva clara. Never had lechon before, but saw yelp reviews. I'm glad we went for this. The restaurant is in a standalone building that looks like a random nothing special place to eat. However, don't be deceived. On top of that, there is a dude with a huge machete, hacking a whole cooked pig into pieces, which you can see as you drive by. The pork was great. Well flavored and very tender. The machete-wielder gives you essentially boneless pieces. You can pick sides of sweet plantains, green plantains, rice and beans, blood sausages and sweet potatoes. I tried the sweet plantains, rice and sweet potatoes. They were all very good. Also bought a canned drink, malta india, if anyone cares to know. All that for $15, which is a killer deal. I would def recommend this to anyone passing by. Cheap, Fast and quality food..you won't regret it.

Best. Pork. Evar! Get fresh roasted, machete-cut, crispy skin pork from the stand out front. Rice & beans and stewed green bananas were great too. $13 for 1.5 lbs of pork and sides! Note: all the locals (including policia) come here; that's how you know it's legit.

Good place to get a taste of the authentic puerto rican bbq. Large portions and cheap

Great place for typical lechon asado y batata. Easy to find. Speedy service despite the often long line of cars. Great to go spot.

Last few times I was here, the meat taste like it was old and reheated. However when it's fresh it's delicious.

TripAdvisor and Google maps gave promising reviews so we decided to chase down the unapparent driveway to Humo's for dinner. The view, good but not spectacular. On a cool evening with light clouds and a cool breeze, it was an excellent choice choice nonetheless. We began with a mixed salad to share six ways - nothing unusual but attractive in plating. Mint on the table reminded us to order mojitos, which were enjoyed if over sweet. Service was fast and friendly, we enjoyed the complimentary virgin Pina colada tasters brought to the table. Pre-meal, we were satisfied. For dinner we ordered mofongo con camarones, red snapper, lamb lollipops, and lobster with grilled meat and risotto. Portions we're enormous, which I never really say. I couldn't finish my mofongo, garlicky and rich; with fresh plump shrimp in a paprika tomato sauce. The lobster and snapper dishes came with a rich too-cheesy risotto, still well cooked; the meat lobster were themselves good. The lamb was tasty but much too dry. In all, good food and sights with some portioning problems, probably something which could bring the food up a notch to gastronomic great.
