Yesterday, Monday afternoon - evening I want to share my experience with a restaurant that, in my opinion, used to be the best in Apopka: Lechonera Latina. I have to ask, where is the so-called manager who claims to be in charge of the restaurant? Doesn't he see how bad the food has become? In the past, after getting off work, I would often stop here because I have to go to Mount Dora and don't have much time to eat. I always enjoyed coming here. Now, I can barely enjoy my favorite chicharrones. Sometimes they are completely burned, and other times they are not crispy at all. The roasted chicken is also burned on some occasions, while other times it looks yellow and poorly prepared. The mofongo? At 4:00 in the afternoon, I'm told they can no longer make it. Then why even have it on the menu? And don't even get me started on the fish--it has very little flavor and is often burned as well. What is going on in the kitchen? "What is going on in the kitchen? The quality and consistency of the food have changed dramatical The only good thing that remains is the way the women treat the customers. Their kindness and good service are honestly the only decent thing left about this place. That is why I still leave a tip--to show my appreciation for the attention and courtesy they give me. To the owners of Lechonera Latina: if you don't start hiring qualified cooks like the ones you had two years ago, you are going to lose customers to the other restaurants in the area. Terrible experience. This place has serious hygiene and quality-control issues. I ordered pernil with rice and beans and found a rock in my food that was at least half an inch long. Completely unacceptable. When I brought it to the supervisor on duty, his first reaction was to look inside my plate to see how much I had eaten, as if I were making up the situation to get a free meal. The foam plate was obviously full. He never apologized, offered a refund, or took any responsibility for what happened. Never an acknowledgment. Just sat there and stared at the foam plate. Finding a rock in your food is bad enough, but the supervisor's lack of concern and professionalism made the experience even worse. A restaurant should take food safety seriously, acknowledge mistakes, and treat customers with respect. Based on my experience, this establishment failed on all three counts. The bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich was huge and only $6. It was good but not great. The bread was mid and I had trouble finding any cheese. I would give it a 7.9 out of 10. The cafe con leche was also good but not great. Great deal for $1. 8.5 out of 10. The buffet was being set up and looks amazing. I want to come back for lunch sometime! This is a cafeteria style serving location, with delicious food. For under $9 you get a large portion of rice, a selection of meat, and plantains or yuca. There are several different rice styles from: white, yellow, rice and peas, and rice with meat. Several selections of meat, and additional sides to choose from as well. The ropa vieja is delicious and always moist. My only complaint is that there isn't someone who speaks English or just isn't willing to let you know all the options. There also isn't a set menu with prices. Just a screen that rotates. I would love to try some additional items but don't know what some are or if I can mix and match items. This is premade food. Lots of it. I got here when they first opened. So much variety and because it's Puerto Rican, the typical Latin foods are ready to be served. I had the arroz con gandules along with pasteles and guava pastries. I've been to other Latin places in this style, but this is the most upscale I have ever seen. They run a tight ship. Very efficient. It goes without saying the taste of the food is outstanding considering it is all cafeteria style. Portions are generous.
