We had Zepheniah for our server and he was phenomenal. With two small kids, it can be challenging to go out to eat but he was wonderful and discovered our needs before we even needed to ask him. We were so excited to eat at a Leal's but it's nothing like I remember from 10 years ago. The food was not seasoned at all and the salsa seemed to be made from canned tomatoes - no jalapeños, no onion, no chile. I ordered chicken fajitas and my friend ordered carne asada. Thumbs down. :( read more

Loved the table lay out especially the partially enclosed booths that have a feeling of privacy which was great for families with kids and the food was fantastic! When I moved here, everyone recommended this restaurant. Now, having given it many chances, I can say there are other Mexican restaurants in this town, far better than this one. Leals did not disappoint! I had the #8 combination plate, 3 cheese enchiladas and a crispy chile relleno! The food came out in a timely manner and the waitress was very attentive and friendly. The sweet tea is so good here definitely recommend if you're a tea fan! They now check you out at your table to avoid the long check out line. Leal's is very good and I'll definitely be back! We visit Elida, NM family every few years and always have to drive to Clovis for this staple Mexican restaurant. In particular, they are famous for their stuffed avocado. It's fairly unique and delicious. That said, we haven't met anything on the menu that we haven't loved! If you like your salsa extra hot ask for a bowl of the hot salsa; you won't be disappointed. I am not sure why these stars aren't 4 or higher! The food here is wonderful Tex mex food! I had the Chile con queso con carne. Their chips were warm and fresh! Their sweet tea wasn't really sweet but they kindly switched it for another beverage. I had the combo #1 with cheese enchilada with red sauce and a soft taco. Reviewed September 2, 2018 Traditional style Mexican Food. First stop on the way to Roswell NM. We eat a lot of Mexican food out and prefer TexMex or NewMex. This was more traditional Mexican. Not particularly spicy, but you can get their hot salsas to spice it up to your taste. The very best thing they have is the Leal's Special. The most ordered dish of the restaurant. It is a taco, tamale and an enchilada with rice and beans. Great seasoning in the red sauce served on the enchilada. I ordered the Tacos Mexicana. Unless you like traditional Mexican food I do not recommend this dish. It is VERY greasy. The Leal's Special is a little greasy too, but it is good. If you want to stay away from the grease stick with a crispy taco or a salad. Nice folks run the place and wait staff does a good job. If you are passing through give it a try. Overpriced very cheap food. The Chilie Relleno was uneatable. Basically we paid 40.00 for chips. This was for two people and a child. As we travel thru the country trying Mexican restaurant this one is among the best. Chips and salsa were set on the table as soon as we sat down. We ask for extra hot salsa and mixed it with the house salsa-our tastebuds we're on fire for the rest of the meal. Margaritas were tangy and yum- two were just enough for the perfect buzz. Chips were thin and saltless. My husband's green chili enchiladas were awesome. He had three different meats and all were awesome. He also had an excellent side of guac. I had 3 combo dinner- taco was ok with the best thing g about it being that the shark was homemade. Tamale was awesome and so was my green cheese enchilada. Beans were average but who eats all of them anyway. The place was packed but the service was excellent. Will definitely come back if we pass thru Clovis again.
