The restaurant itself may not be open right now (though they said they have plans to re-open potentially soon) but nothing has changed since the reviews from 5-7 years ago. This is still without a doubt the best Mexican food in Clovis!! The Asada tacos were top 5 for tacos I have ever eaten in my life!! The service was very fast and the food counter is contained inside a Hispanic grocery store which has a ton of awesome selections including a large selection of Mexican style and queso cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables including dried peppers and huge avocados, a Hispanic bakery, and fresh meats with both pre-seasoned and plain options! This is an incredible hidden gem on Clovis and I can't believe I didn't hear about it sooner!! Come, eat, shop, spread the word! This place is incredible!! read more

I was having such a hard time finding dried chiles in portales! Drove up to Clovis and oh my the options are endless, they have fresh vegetables, sweet bread, Mexican candy, meats on all sorts and a little restaurant as well! Service was super friendly and fast. The restaurant part is closed but the Mexican market serves food and it's DELICIOUS!! There isn't anywhere to sit and eat the food you order but that is not an issue!! The ladies that work there are so nice and accommodating. We ordered Chili relleno burrito - super simple just a chili relleno and refried beans but sooo good. The relleno was stuffed with cheese. Tacos de buche- meat was moist and tacos were STUFFED!!! Quesadilla de carnitas - the meat was moist and easily about a pound of meat in this quesadilla!! This was a road trip stop and when we are in this area again we will definitely come by. read more

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this is the place to be. This place was closed to packed when we arrived. It has such a friendly atmosphere, with beautiful Mexican music playing. We ordered the Enchiladas Rancheras with Red Chili and the Mixed Fajitas. I was surprised that the Enchiladas Rancheras haD carrots and potatoes on them. We usually call them Rancheras if we put an egg on top at my house. They were delicious The beans and rice that accompanied them were good as well. The Fajita beef had a weird taste, almost as if it were about to turn bad or had been seasoned for a different dish. We couldn't decide. Now, if you have any aversion to Cilantro, you may want to skip the salsa bar. Most everything was loaded with it. My downside was that the menu was hard to understand and with a line behind you, it feels like a lot of pressure. I was saddened to see that I paid for a drink, but they do not serve Tea, so water it was. Authentic, tasty, and fresh! I recently had lunch here with a friend and was amazed. When you walk in, you go to the counter, order food, then they give you your # and you take a seat. While you wait for your food, you can grab your salsa at their salsa bar. Their salsa bar ha/ a wide array of mild, hot and chile verde (green) salsa along with fresh cilantro, chopped onions, limes, sour cream and cheese. What I love is that everything tastes so fresh, and once one tub of salsa or condiments run out, the servers are quick to fill it. Now onto the food =] I had a quesadilla with carnitas and cheese and asked to add sautéed onions a. The quesadilla was huge! Made with two white flour tortillas, it's about the size of a small pizza and served with a side of guacamole. I also had this with a horchata (a cinnamon rice milk drink) and was pleased to see a great selection Jarritos soda in glass bottles. I will definitely be frequenting this place! read more

There are two reviews here. One for the restaurant and one for the market. Hours are strange and varied, so check before arriving. The "Servicio Azteca" side of the building is a small, no frills restaurant. It is always busy. They make some awesome authentic Mexican comfort food like mole, posole, caldo de pollo, and caldo de res. The soup of the day was caldo de pollo (Chicken Soup) when I went. It touched my soul. Tacos are good too. I recommend the tacos Al Pastor (Meaning "Shepherd style). It's pieces of pork shoulder marinated in guajillo chiles, achiote, cumin, pineapple, and other spices. Tacos taste great sprinkled with your choice of cilantro, onions, peppers, lime, salsas, pico, and sour cream available at the self-service condiments bar. I was sad that sour cream is an extra dollar. Tortillas, meat, and other ingredients used in the food are all made there. One problem is the Spanish only menu board containing very little description of the dishes. Non-Spanish speaking individuals will have difficulties. I recommend stepping out of line to look at the menu at your pace and ask staff to help you out. The shop next door is cool. It is very organized and clean too. There is a small butcher ("carniceria"), bakery ("panaderia"), produce section, and aisles of dry food and spices. If you ever want fresh Central American snacks and ingredients, this seems like the best place in town. As someone with a Panamanian and Puerto Rican background I am thrilled that I found a place to get plantains and Malta. read more

Best Mexican food I've had in clovis. Every bite taste handmade + delicious. BEANS + RICE Their beans were super creamy and topped with cheese. It was a little bit salty, but subtle. The rice were cooked great and had that aromatic scent all Mexican rice wishes it had. QUESADILLA You MUST get their barbacoa quesadilla. The meat is stewed for a while, which adds in the softness and tender bite to the meat -along with the delicious sauce. The handmade tortilla adds to the love that was put into making this item. Highly recommend. TACOS Unfortunately, their tacos were a little on the dry side for me. Just bc they only had the meat and tortilla + onions/cilantro. I think it would have tasted better if there were some source of guacamole or sauce to it. ODD HOURS This place doesn't seem to be opened on Wednesday. Also, they close really early. Guys this place is awesome! They open up at 7 AM and it's perfect on the drive from Lubbock to Albuquerque. The salsa bar will blow you away! Service is fast, the homemade tortillas are amazing, and like I said, the salsa bar will flat out blow you away. read more

Good food with everything cooked to order and fresh. Salsa bar has enough options you'll find something to fit your taste. Chips are fresh made and some of the best I've had. Just wish I could of had more than the tiny little bit they give you. Tortillas are made fresh and you can watch the process through a viewing window. This is your basic authentic Mexican place where you order at the counter off of a menu on the wall that, instead of descriptions of the options, have pictures of the plates. I had the four (street) tacos which was nothing more than meat on grilled tortillas. All the topping are U-serve from the salsa bar. Pretty basic. This is a real popular local place. Doubt you'd find it unless you were looking for it. At lunch, at least 2/3 if the place was military from the nearby base. Although the three others I was with had different menu items and seemed to enjoy them, my experience was a three star experience. read more

We were met with a smile by the assistant manager. She was very friendly and helpful. She gave us menus, and when we were ready, we ordered at the counter. Our order was served at our table along with fresh hot chips, and we had our choice of salsa from the salsa bar. I have to say, they were the best chips I've ever tasted. My mom and I shared the beef fajitas. It came with sides of lettuce, tomato rice and beans. My son and his wife had veggie fajitas and my toddler grandson had a cheese quesadilla. My other grandson is still drinking momma's milk Dinner was delicious! We had 4 generations, and we managed to make quite a mess. The staff was very friendly and responsive to our needs. This is a hidden gem! I would say that this is the only authentic Mexican restaurant in Clovis. The food is delicious when you sit down and order but we prefer buying the raw meat and make street tacos of our own when we have parties. We always get a side of refried beans as well. read more

Have been hearing about this place for some time now...FINALLY went in today and am sad I havent been earlier. Now I know and will be back..again and again. El pastor tacos are the bomb! Load up what you want on it from salsa bar...pickled onions..do not miss! Their el pastor has the pineapples which is definitely authentic. Not fatty like jaliscos...they give you 4 per order which is 1 too many for me.. i took home, of course. They pile the meat high and place on 2 each soft corn tortillas which they make in house and sell next door at the market. Made fresh daily which you can see being done through the doors. Chips were warm and the variety of heat in their different salsas will please anyone. Im a mild gal and hubby likes spicy. We were both happy! Staff as well are willing to help with a smile. I love the small tacos, the Posole on Tuesday is really good. The Salsa Bar makes it though, they do two really good red chile based sauces that are tasty and burning hot. All the tortillas are homemade, so they can't be beat. One of my favorite's in town, especially for lunch. read more

We've only lived here a month and we've had La Espiga 4 times already. Hands down my favorite restaurant in town. We've found that we looove the barbacoa.
