The food here is good, but the service is so abysmally poor and slow that I don't ever plan on coming back. To start, the hostess was imperious bordering on outright rude and made us feel very unwelcome. Then waited far too long to place an order, our drinks sat undelivered for so long I finally gave up and grabbed them myself. The FOH staff was so slow that food was sitting in the pass for far too long, and the kitchen staff finally got so frustrated that they started delivering the food. Do NOT plan on coming here if you don't have at least 90 minutes before your flight boards.... we made that mistake and had to rush though our lunch to make our flight. It was flavorful and good but a pretty modest serving for the price. I would normally consider this a really over-priced dining experience, but since it is an airport location they get a 'free pass'. My sandwich was delicious, and (to me) the perfect amount of 'kick'. I finished every bite. Where this restaurant stumbles is with service. I must assume they realize they are not building a repeat/loyalty base so standard hospitality standards are not front of mind. This was an exceptional meal, and the perfect way to end my week in New Orleans. Having traveled to a lot of airports throughout the U.S., I would definitely give Leah's Kitchen a 3.5-4-star rating. Sure, it's not the same as eating at many of the wonderful restaurants in the heart of NOLA, but there were a number of positives during our experience there. The restaurant is located right after TSA screening and was really busy, but we managed to grab a table pretty quickly. They really didn't have enough servers, but our server was polite and efficient even though she was managing a lot of tables. It did take a while to get our order in and our food, but our server did her best and kept us updated throughout. We got pretty large cups of refreshing cold water without ice, and the unsweetened ice tea was brewed pretty strong which was good. I went with the shrimp po'boy which included a decent amount of plump, tender fried shrimp that were seasoned pretty well on top of a crusty roll that was dressed with shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes and some pickles. Mayo came on the side which was a little inconvenient for a dressed po'boy, but allowed you to put as much as you wanted. We got a big bottle of Crystal's hot sauce that helped a lot flavor-wise. The accompanying fries were hot and creamy inside. All in all, a good experience for an airport restaurant and a nice food send off as we headed home after visiting NOLA. read more

For lunch I decided to stop into Leah's Kitchen. The staff were super friendly. I got seated in no time in the area I requested and it wasn't a problem. They brought me water quickly and I had a look through the menu. After seeing they had fried chicken, I decided to look up if it was good and saw some alright reviews. I settled on the fried chicken. It wasn't too long but I got my fried chicken and it looked decent. Portion size was nice, fries looked generic. I had a few bites and I think I was spoiled in NO with some of the really good fried chicken. It was decent here but nowhere as nice as what I had during my trip. I think for an airport you can do a lot worse for food! I wouldn't have an issue ordering this again. At no point did I feel rushed or left unattended. Was a little worried coming here after some of the recent 1 star reviews. Service: It didn't take long for the hostess to seat me. My server was Jose and he was very polite. Water never ran empty for me, and he was knowledgeable on the menu. From door to table to food was approximately 30 minutes in total. Food: I ultimately settled on the shrimp po'boy w/ substitution of red beans and rice instead of the French fries. With previous reviews talking about the food being bland again I was not knowing what to expect. The food was NOT bland. It was great portions for the price, and filling. Ambiance: mostly heard the hustle and bustle of people walking to their terminals, the music inside the restaurant was low and the staff were in and out of the kitchen moving plates to tables. My wife eventually went to the bar to ask, but the bartender was not friendly and snapped at her, telling her to go through our server. Thankfully, another waitress overheard and stepped in to help, which we appreciated. Most of the staff seemed disengaged and not especially friendly, though one gentleman waiter stood out for being attentive and kind. The food itself was very good, which makes it even more disappointing that the service detracted so much from the overall experience. OK it's in an airport. For an airport Leah's Kitchen is sooooo much better than you should expect to eat here. Truth is they could hold their own against any restaurant in New Orleans that serves this traditional/classic type of menu. My gumbo was very good. But my sides of greens and red beans are why I had to leave this review. This isn't fancy food--it's just wicked gooooood. And tho they are priced like sides, these are meal-size portions. If you aren't familiar with NOLA-style braised greens, or red beans & rice (and sausage of course), this is as good an introduction as you're going to get. As to the rest, our servers were lovely, and the space is pleasant and fine for people-watching. If you're at MSY and hungry, you can't do better than Leah's. read more

The very best airport food and the prices were not exorbitant. There was a long line to get in this restaurant and it moved slowly. But once I was in and seated, everything went well. My server Cherian was very attentive and helpful. She brought my drink pretty quickly. I ordered the creole queens crown. Umm this is very strong and also it taste delicious. There is one note in it that I can't quite pin point but whatever it is, Yum! I didn't know what a remoulade was but this mentioned it had blue cheese and I am a blue cheese fanatic. Last food stop for me to stretch my per diem out before heading back home. I was at Ye Olde something down the way, but a fellow Yelper said go to Leah's instead. And that's what I did. Immediately, I knew this was the right choice as there's a lot more on the menu here than at Ye Olde something. Lots of classic NOLA dishes to choose from, including a large selection of po boys. I skipped all that and ordered the fried chicken plate. Sat at the bar and the nice bartender said it would take 20 mins as that dish is cooked fresh. I had time, so that's what I did. In fact, everything is cooked to order here so all the dishes take time. So if you've got a plane to catch in an hour, don't come here. Give yourself a couple hours and you'll be OK. The verdict: 8.5/10 - 3 pieces - leg, breast and thigh. Coating was perfect. Had just the amount of spice. Juicy on the inside too. This is homemade, Southern goodness on a plate. Came with a batch of fries that were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Kind of Belgian style, which was a nice surprise. I was expecting much less. Random notes: they have outlets at the bar and on some of the tables. Really nice touch. However, I wish they would use real cutlery and not this plastic stuff they give you wrapped up with a pansy little napkin. This is really good food and it deserves better hardware to eat it with. Ordered the fish and grits; grits had no salt, and while the fish had some seasoning, it wasn't anything special. The crawfish maque choux, however, was very flavorful and honestly should be a side if it isn't already. The atmosphere is what you'd expect for an airport spot, family-friendly with a steady flow of travelers. Some staff members could work on their approach when communicating with guests. We were wandering the airport, looking for something better than the usual grab and go, when Leah's Kitchen caught our eye. Leah Chase is known as the Queen of Creole Cuisine. She started in her family's kitchen and went on to run Dooky Chase's Restaurant, which became a gathering place for civil rights leaders, artists, and the community during a time when segregation was still in full force. Even though this is the airport version, you can still feel that history in the space. The ambiance is upscale southern, clean, warm, and inviting. It feels open with plenty of space to dine or lounge, and there are USB ports and plugs along almost every wall and corner, which is a gift when you are in an airport. The food was solid. The red fish and jambalaya were yum. The greens leaned more sweet than savory, but apparently that is a NOLA thing. A little salt and hot sauce and they were perfect. And honestly, any place that offers both Louisiana and Crystal's hot sauce automatically starts at 3 stars in my book. I had the brandy milk punch because I love anything creamy based. Think horchata with liquor but no sugar. Not sweet at all, but it worked. One star comes off for service. The hostess looked me and my group dead in the eye, then walked straight to the back without greeting us or offering to seat us. We stood there for a good 15 minutes while we could see her through the kitchen window, laughing with coworkers and scrolling on her phone. It was an awkward and avoidable first impression that put a damper on what could have been a perfect start. Another star comes off for price. I know airport dining is expensive, but this was beyond that. We were in NOLA for a week, eating at some of the city's well-known restaurants, and this ended up being the most expensive check of the trip. Our bill came out to over $130 for one glass of wine, one milk punch, one entrée, and one side. $19 for a single glass of Moscato is hard to justify, even with the convenience of being steps from your gate. Overall, Leah's Kitchen is worth a visit if you want a taste of New Orleans history and cooking before you fly out, but go in knowing you're paying first-class prices for an economy seat with extra leg room. read more

Stopped by Leah's Kitchen post tsa in the New Orleans airport. It was one of the first spots when you make a left. They have a large seating area with a bar. I got a table for myself and ordered a few dishes. I got the gumbo (of course! I am in New Orleans!) and the creole grilled chicken with a side of greens. First, don't be discouraged by the service, it was very slow. It was only 1 server for about 15 tables! I felt so bad for her, she was running around, thankfully I had a little over an hour before boarding, so I did not make a fuss. But given it was lunch hour, I'd expect there would be more service. The dishes I ordered was not what I had expected nor was it what I eating in the days prior. The gumbo soup was SO salty! It did contain sausage, shrimps and rice, I ate most of the protein inside but the broth was saltier than what I would've liked. My main dish, the Creole grilled chicken breast, was a little bit better. But still salty, luckily I had the rice to balance. I greatly enjoyed the rice though! Also, note: they charge almost a 3% surcharge on top for using credit cards! Plus tax, plus tips! So I ended up paying a lot more for the meal than what I would've liked. However, we didn't get to try it because the restaurant was not open despite us being there during the posted hours. The restaurant is supposed to open at 6am according to the sign next to the restaurant. My wife and I were there around 6:15. There was an employee sitting at the bar who walked to the back of the restaurant when my wife and I were coming in. We waited a couple of minutes, but he never came out. We decided to eat somewhere else instead. When we walked by again over an hour later, there was still no employees at the front of the restaurant despite the restaurant opening at 6am and at this point it was close to 7:30.
