Fish and grits with a corn and crawfish relish
    Joy P.

The food is fire and the service is a hot mess! I'll start with the positives. The fish and grits were perfect - creamy and thick grits with crispy, well seasoned fried catfish on top. The corn and crawfish relish should be bottled and sold. I'd put it on everything. Now, the service. Super sigh. A reviewer politely referred to the service as casual. Nope. The service borders on neglectful and is definitively slow. The hostess took forever to saunter her way from the kitchen. She said nothing and looked down. She acknowledged me when I to sit at the bar. The bartender took my order reasonably quickly, but took her time getting my food from the kitchen. She saw me looking into the kitchen, which was her cue to get my food. I asked for hot sauce and watched the bartender (I sat at the bar) pass me twice. Finally, I looked her in the eyes and she remembered. It was in front of me under the bar. The same thing happened with my bread pudding order. Tables sat unbussed and I saw others waiting 15 mi utes for a check (yes, I timed it). One guy went to the service window to ask for mayonnaise. The kicker - I saw the dishwasher rinsing dishes with one hand while holding a cellphone to his ear with the other. As I left, I saw the hostess texting under the stand, while a long line formed. There were plenty of empty tables - clean and bussed. I could go on. In short, the best food I had while visiting New Orleans was at Leah's kitchen and the worst service I had in New Orleans was at Leah's kitchen. 6 stars for food and -2 for service.

    Creole Fish & Grits

The long awaited brand new New Orleans airport opened and thankfully features a new host of dining options that pay homage to local area restaurants. Leah's Kitchen is named for Chef Leah Chase of Dooky Chase's restaurant in the New Orleans. Since my time was limited, I opted to order their Creole Fish & Grits to go. This classic dish was quite nice. It included crunchy fried catfish and creamy (and delicious) grits. Atop the generous portion was fresh roasted corn; andouille sausage, blistered tomatoes, and fresh herbs. Packaging was good and the portion was definitely robust and filling. Since I go it to go, the folks on the airplane were definitely envious as they ate pretzels from the flight attendant. The service is speedy at Leah's and the decor is quite nice. Plus, with its location near Terminal C, it is perfect for United Airline customers. If you also miss Chef Leah Chase, stop by here to honor her wonderful, culinary memory.

From the chef behind Dookey Chase'S, this restaurant is an homage to Leah Chase, who sadly didn't live to see it open. Great southern food, good staff and efficient. Located just past security towards the C Concourse/Delta terminal.

    Salty salty salty

I'm a huge fan of Leah Chase and always ate at the old Dooky Chase before my flights out of NOLA. I was really looking froward to my first visit to Leah's Kitchen before my morning flight this past Sunday. Unfortunately, the pulled pork Benedict I ordered was ridiculously salty. I tried my best to continue eating but I ultimately had to spit it out. My husband tried it too and agreed. We waited for our server and told her about the salty dish. She immediately made an incredulous face and said "I haven't heard anyone say anything like that". I actually regret not telling her to go ahead and taste it herself since half the plate was untouched but I didn't. I simply said I couldn't finish and asked for a plain biscuit instead. She brought us our bill she said she took "a little something off (just a few dollar and not the total amount for the over salted dish) because not everyone has the same taste" as if my husband and I just have sensitive tongues or something. Let me make this clear - it wasn't over seasoned. It wasn't too spicy for me. It was way too salty. Period. We didn't ask for any money to be refunded and we weren't expecting any. I just wasn't going to finish the dish because I wasn't able to. Looking through the reviews so far, it looks like salty food is the most common complaint along with the service. I really truly hope whomever is in charge takes a look at these comments and corrects these issues. It's a disgrace that this it what is happening with the legacy of Leah Chase and the restaurant that carries her name.

I had the shrimp po'boy and a bowl of gumbo (shrimp, chicken and pork). It was very tasty. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Worst and most rude service that I have seen in a resultant in a long time. The hostess was incredibly mean and rude. Will never be back!

I was arriving from Houston on a short trip and had been on the road for several hours and I decided to stop on my way in. It wasn't very crowded so parking was no problem. I was immediately seated and given a menu. I decided on fried catfish which cam with a small corn on the cob, some French bread and additionally coleslaw and potato salad. I had a Moscow mule type drink while I waited. My meal came out nice and hot and I immediately knew I couldn't eat all of this. The fish was crispy and the cold slaw was creamy . The service was excellent and my server even recommended a few dishes before I ordered but I had made up my mind before I sat down. Definitely a place for good seafood and there is a seafood market next door.

Pros: the food was fantastic! Softshell crabs were a bit on the small side, but it's understandably the end of the season. We loved that the batter was good so you could really appreciate them without the batter being overpowering. Their oyster sampler and chargrilled oysters were fantastic. The "crawfish" (large boiled shrimp instead because it's off season) bloody Mary was fantastic. Food came out quickly and portions were awesome. Cons: service needed work (yes, I brought it up while I was there, and the manager seemed very, very confused). Our waitress was very sweet, and checked on us often, but messed up our order several times. She accidentally duplicated one order, but different wait staff (& the young manager? who even splashed soup on one of our diners) brought the food to the table. I mentioned the error the moment they placed the food down. Despite explaining the error, the manager seemed super confused, and asked a couple of times what was wrong, before going to ask the waitress in front of us and pointing at the order paper. She seemed stressed, so we told her we'd keep the incorrect order (seafood platter instead of softshell platter) to not inconvenience her, but mentioned that we'd at least like them to correct one of the sides we really wanted to try (we'd ordered side salad & hush puppies, they gave us potato salad & harbor potatoes). I asked the manager if he could swap the incorrect side for the correct side. He seemed out of it and very confused and asked if we wanted him to take the whole order away, I said no, we just wanted the hush puppies side we originally ordered. He walked away, then came back and asked if we wanted a side of hush puppies and we said yes? (Because we had ordered a meal with hush puppies as our side). He said he'd bring us a side of hush puppies. Waitress comes over and apologizes and says the confusion was that she wrote "hp" for harbor potatoes AND hush puppies (doesn't explain how she mixed up a softshell crab platter with a seafood platter and a salad with ranch for potato salad). When I got the check, she charged us for the incorrect order AND added a side of hush puppies. I didn't ask them to correct the entire incorrect meal, but I asked why they charged us extra for the side they got wrong. The waitress said it's because we kept the incorrect side (I had asked the manager to swap them out, he didn't). She says she'll ask him about it, and I hear them arguing loudly in the back. She comes out upset and says he won't remove it, so she guesses she'll just have to pay for them herself. Just disappointed in how management handled a common food industry error and how they treated the waitress. I'm not sure if anything else was going on that night, but I'm happy to chat with more senior management since I couldn't find an email on their website.

Crawfish wise, we ended up getting 5 pounds of the Viet Cajun and 5 pounds of the EZ blend along with sides of corn, sausage and potatoes. Everything was great and had a lot of flavor, and we were pretty surprised by the size of the crawfish. I really enjoyed both flavors though if I had to pick, I would say the Viet Cajun was better and had more flavor. My table had four of us and we weren't able to finish everything. Overall, this spot was delicious and I love all of the variety. I love variety and options, so I will say that I wish there were more flavor options for the crawfish!

This is an extremely casual place, that is both a seafood market and restaurant. I chose to lunch in. The service is friendly and familiar. I felt just as welcomed as the regulars. The menu is full of tempting selections, but knew a few things I wanted. I started off with a cup of seafood gumbo. After the first bite, I regretted not getting a bowl! Next time! It was rich and flavorful, and was clearly not rushed. Next, I also tried the chicken and andouille gumbo. Also excellent, but just slightly shy of the seafood version. The main portion of the meal was what I came for: the crawfish boil. I asked for spicy, and was informed there was only "just right," and they were correct. Initially, I was surprised that the dish came out warm, but not hot, but that, too, was just right. Oh, and the price! Usually, when you see "market price," you expect to lighten your wallet a bit, but in this case, that meant $5.99 for pound. It's crawfish season, I'm told, but still.... I'm used to paying a lot more. The decor is vintage jazz festival posters. Also, since this Women's History Month, the place is women-owned

Pretty good bread too. The gumbo was a disappointment though. I guess I've spent too much time on the bayou down through the years, because anytime a bowl of gumbo shows up without a scoop of potato salad in it I'm disappointed. Worse still, this gumbo was flavorless, bland and completely lacking of spice. Were it not for the dark color, I would have not been able to tell the difference between this and the sort of store-bought gumbo that comes from a can. The server kept an eye on me and my drink of choice, so props for that. Also, beware going to the restroom here, as the door doesn't seem to lock.
