This is my to-go-to lunch spot. I used to go to Salata (located in the same food court) and decided to try this place out due to seeing how busy it always was and am so glad that I did. Don't let the long line deter you from eating here. The service is always fast and friendly. There will be times where the person behind you gets their food first and that's normal due to some dishes taking longer to make. There is no seating here but plenty of tables to eat at the food court. A thing to note is that it does get a little loud (especially during lunch rush) so it can be a little hard for you to hear them or vice versa. Also try getting there before 1pm to get some of their sourdough bread as they tend to run out. read more

Located inside the eastern downtown food court opposite Chick Fil A and some other lunch spots. It's a popular weekday lunch spot for those that work in downtown. Their menu is similar to Sweetgreen or a Salata in concept. I got their Thai bowl with chicken and for $15, I was a bit bummed that standard iceberg lettuce made up the majority of the greens in the bowl. The chicken pieces also had quite a few burnt pieces that were tossed. It was a seasonal bowl that is a bit sad looking and I would honestly recommend one of their standard bowls, which I remember as being much tastier and well put together. read more

Thumbs Up: This Leaf & Grain is conveniently located in the tunnels of Allen Center, making it easily accessible for most office workers in the surrounding buildings. Neutral: Given its prime location and focus on healthy food, there's almost always a line. Thumbs Up: Every time I've ordered from any Leaf & Grain, the food has been great. Neutral: When I request light dressing mixed in, it often still feels like too much. That's more of a personal issue, especially since I can't mix the salad myself at the office. I could fix this by ordering in person and telling the employee I want half of whatever they consider "light" dressing. Neutral: The wait time for online orders can be excessive. I've seen people join a 20-person line after I placed my order 15 minutes prior--only for them to leave with their food before me. However, given how busy this location is and the fact that they warn customers online orders may take up to 30 minutes, I won't hold this against them. FOOD SAFETY - One time, I arrived while an employee was setting pickup orders on the shelves. After she finished, I checked for mine and didn't see it. I waited another 15 minutes with no new orders being placed, so I decided to check the other shelves--and found my order in the wrong location. Thumbs Down: Pickup orders are supposed to be arranged alphabetically by last name, but on multiple occasions, mine has been placed under my first name or a part of my first name. It shouldn't be that hard to figure out which name is the last name. It is, after all, the... LAST name. Thumbs Down: On my most recent visit, my order was once again placed on the wrong shelf--nowhere near where it should have been, alphabetically, by my first, middle, or last name. My friend chose this establishment for an early birthday celebratory Iunch. We arrived right around 11am on a Wednesday and the line was decent. Here's my thoughts: 1) Service time: they work in an assembly line set up and have a small menu. This led to them being effective. (9/10) 2) Food: I wanted to try the steak salad so badly but they were out of steak and apparently wouldn't have any for the next couple of weeks. Sooo disappointed. I ended up having the Pollo Laredo salad and substituted the tortilla topping for pumpkin seeds. I asked for it to be heavily dressed with their jalapeno ranch. I added a scoop of feta cheese. MANNNNN their ingredients are fresh and so tasty. I enjoyed their guacamole, and overall options. I do low carb and there are ample options for everyone. My only critique points are: (a) They need a spice option. Fresh chopped jalapeños or serranos would elevate this salad to another level. (b) I got a lot of lettuce ends and just wished I could have the leaves not the stems but I understand. Maybe having an option for lettuce leaves and charging a little more would be okay. Soooo summer snuck up on me and so did about 7 lbs In an effort to have a quick snap back by Memorial Weekend I have been eating nothing but healthy food all week. Options for takeout have been limited while on my diet, but Leaf & Grain definitely checked all the boxes for a guilt free, low carb, low calorie, high quality, satisfying lunch. This was my first time trying L&G. I studied the menu online first to prepare so I wouldn't feel intimidated and overwhelmed once I got in that long line. I typically pass by this place when I walk the tunnel and wonder why so many people would want to eat expensive bird food that doesn't smell too appetizing. Today -- I have discovered why! I opted for the m*tha f*kn veggie boost 2.0. Not sure if that's what the MF stands for but that mf was good! Only downside is the price. Be aware that a little extra can add on to the already high base price pretty quickly. I had to pay $1 extra for spinach and quinoa. Anyway, no biggie. Just worth mentioning. I got extra chipotle jalapeño dressing on the side to combine with the avocado lime dressing and it really added to the flavor. I also appreciated the delicious tiny slice of sourdough bread that came with it. Even with the bite of bread, I'll be hungry again in a couple hours. I fell in love with Leaf and Grain's Laredo salad a few years ago and it became a staple in my diet. However, the Japeleno Cilantro Dressing recently came off the menu and I feel that the alternatives just can't hold a candle in comparison. Always good spot with somewhat healthier options. You can get a salad or a bowl that may include roasted brussel sprouts or sautéed mushrooms. You can go with a set item, make changes to it, or just design your own. You can order online, but I find it is faster to just go there and wait in line. Every time I order online there is always a 20-40 min wait, I go to pick up, and it's still not ready. This time delay has just started during Covid. read more

This place has amazing saldas which is why I'll stick to a 4. But today I tried something different- curry comfort . I was not satisfied. While the bowl is bright, it was missing the curry sauce. There was so little put on that the rice soaked it up. I modified it and added sweet roasted potatoes instead of the squash - I'm glad I did. Personally, sweet potatoes give it a better flavor. Homemade turkey meatballs were okay. I will opt out from ordering this bowl in future and stick to their amazing salads. My favorite salad is the sonny's garden. This place offers vegan options. I didn't realize how custom you could get, but when I asked the server on the line whether it would be sacrilegious to add double chicken, they assured me that people do it all the time. I want to eat Leaf + Grain every day. I make my lunch most days--claiming it saves time, calories, and money--but their salads are worth leaving your desk. Sure, I can make my own kale salad but why bother when L&G's MFH Veggie Boost is so (!) much better? The MFH Veggie Boost has the best ingredients. Think quality roasted vegetables-- cauliflower, sweet potato, and Brussels sprouts--complemented by crunchy pepitas, nutty parmesan, and sweet dried cranberries. The only thing you need to add is avocado. Light dressing packs plenty of flavor. The founder's mom created most (all?) of the shop's original dressings, and I wish she sold them by the bottle. Clearly, I'm not the only Leaf + Grain lover. If time is a concern, order online. You can even customize your salad. Skip the line and pick up off the shelves by the door. read more

Was so excited that a second L&G location opened up! When I visited, I had the "Laredo" with chicken. As always, the ingredients were fresh and high-quality and the cilantro jalapeno dressing was SO good! Service was fast and staff was super friendly. My husband, who is not a salad person, had The Alamo grain bowl and said it was delicious and super-filling. This is the best salad joint in Houston and the fact that it is locally owned and operated is even better. If you haven't been to this location, get there ASAP! read more
