As a random first-time Groupon client, Kelley could have cropped and dropped me in a heartbeat, but she didn't. She took the time to really LOOK, TALK, and DISCUSS me. ME. No up-sell. No shenanigans. No "well if you..." NO! Kelley is the type of person that will discuss at length with you what you want your hair to look like and what you are willing to deal with. I expressed early on that I didn't want to deal with styling. Kelley found a way to tap into my tresses' wavelength (sad attempt at pun for wavy hair) and now I have a style I can wash, comb, sprunch minimally on the way to work, and have adorably styled hair without all the damaging heat (and time suck). But.. (there is always a but)... her true magic is in her coloring skills. Kelley is a color NINJA! Kelley pulled out her swatches like a fricken Samurai and wielded them like I was a Japanese princess worthy of... holy hyperbole... let's just say she picked out amazing color. You know it's amazing color when all but 3 out of ALL OF THE GRAYS have been organically annihilated and your own personal title of "urban hippie" hasn't been compromised. This is the most natural looking dye job I have ever had. Let's just say, Kelley knows what she's doing. She selected the most amazing color combinations to gracefully transition my roots/prior dye hacks and gray hairs into a color scheme that is not only conducive to growing out but also incredibly healthy for my hair. Compliment #1: "Your hair is so much more shiny, what did you do?" Compliment #2: "Your hair is so soft, I want to shave you and weave your trimmings into a scarf" Compliment #3: "I didn't know you had curly hair?" Ok, so compliment 3 really isn't a "compliment" by conventional standards. I cold called Kelley mid-week hoping to find quality organic hair services for the next day. She was able to take me in, fix my color, and give me a crazy good "Kelley cut" for my long hair. After being in her hands for a couple hours, my hair health and look has turned around completely - it is almost as if she performed a miracle. It is soft, stylish, and radiating. The Kelley Cut has given me a style that I don't even need to blow dry - a dab of product and a comb out is all I need to attain that stylish but messy look I so desired. I am not easy to please - I wanted healthier hair, but I didn't want her to cut much length off. I didn't know what color I wanted, she helped me identify the right color for my eye color. I found Kelly online and had read that she knows how to deal with long hair (really really really long hair). She uses all organic products in her salon which is a plus. Kelley did an awesome job of converting my awful (mostly self-colored) hair into beautiful hues of golden/auburn red/brown. I LOVE Kelley! She is great. I came to her as a last minute client for extensions. She put them in and they looked AWESOME. She went above and beyond finding them for me, working me in her schedule the same day, and putting them in a timely manner. She is a great conversationalist and is full of great ideas, very knowledgable of what she does! This morning, I wasn't able to figure out how to curl my extensions the right way (because I'm silly) and called her and she told me to come in right now and she would fix it for my day! HOW AWESOME. Kelley is absolute genius! I have very thin fine hair, so using gentle, preferably organic products was essential. A stylist in PA introduced me to Shwartzkopf and I never looked back. Wile searching for a stylist using this product, I found Kelley. No one has touched my hair since for color and cut. I get raves, even from other stylists who style my hair when I'm traveling, on how great my color and cut are. Somewhere out there, an 80's Hair band cover band is missing their lead singer--that's what comes to mind as I stand in front of my mirror, practically in tears. So I visited Kelly based on the stellar reviews she's received on Yelp, and the Groupon made her affordable. So here's the story: she sat me down and "analyzed" my hair. She talked a big game and pointed out major flaws with its condition (thanks, self esteem!). I told her I wanted a trim but she talked me into her signature "Kelly cut". Now, let me explain to you what this conversation was like: "I'm going to give you the Kelly cut. You'll love it." That's it. That's all the information I had to go with. Now, I am a young professional, and my image is important. I am also very uncomfortable with giving up control, and at that point I had felt that I had lost all of it. I should have gone with my gut and slowed her down--or better yet just left right then and there--it was $35, no big loss. But against better judgement I stayed. I gave her 2 stars because she is a good conversationalist, which helps the time pass, but she's also pretty self-absorbed, a shameless self-promoter, and most of the time I felt like she was just plain full of..., well, you know. So at least the time passed quickly. But, again, she was so full of herself (conversation-wise) that she never stopped to ask me what I was thinking. Perfect example: when I came in, I had a face frame that was growing out--around the bottom of my chin or so. I was getting to the point in our initial conversation where I was going to say "I'd also like my face frame trimmed up to around my cheek bones", but she was already hurrying me into her washing station with her "vision" in her mind. I am not a pushy person, so I just assumed everything would be ok. Well, 45 mins into the haircut, and I have bangs. BANGS! This was never discussed! Actually, wait, I take that back. I remember at one point specifically saying "yeah, I can't wear bangs because my hair naturally parts with a big hole in the middle". So imagine my absolute HORROR when I look at the mirror through my hair to see how gd short it was. She noticed I was struggling to see and was like "here can I trim those bangs shorter." At that point I was just so shocked my filter left me because I just exclaimed "I never wanted bangs in the first place why the hell would I want them even shorter?" Her reply? "Oh, we'll I guess that's one thing you can write about me on Yelp that's negative". You're damn right, sister! So, here's my opinion, in a nutshell: if you can stand your ground (or are cool with giving up all control) against a big personality, go see Kelly. She'll definitely dominate your hair. But, if you're like me, someone who doesn't want to cause any drama/ruffled feathers, doesn't necessarily always feel comfortable speaking her mind in a public service setting, and tries her hardest to go with the flow, don't go to Kelly--she will steamroll you. This has ended up being one of the most expensive cuts of my life--yeah, the Groupon was cheap, but all of the damn product and accessories I've had to buy to keep this passable (and growing out as quickly as possible) has put me way over the price tag of my previous stylist (who I left in an attempt to save some $$). I did not go to Kelly because of a coupon but read her Yelp reviews and made an appointment. Kelly was professional, knowledgeable and had new ideas and treatments for my hair and hairstyle. After the longest haircut in my life I felt special in that I received the best haircut in my life that was new and fit me perfectly and made my hair look good for weeks to come. Where are you going to get that kind of service and personal attention to detail today in the chain store mentality of hair retail today? I have been losing hair for a while even though I take medication for it. I also take quite a few meds for other conditions so I decided to try organic products on my scalp to see if it makes a difference. And I found Kelley's Salon online. It was very easy to make an appointment and she is professional about returning calls. But she is fantastic in person. She has all the experience in the world and most importantly to me, she is honest. It turned out that the hair dyes she uses are not really pure and organic, but that they process the hair with enzymes. I appreciated the transparency. She is willing to work on every single detail, she can see color miles away, how it will look now and later. She also has an eye for framing your face with the right type of hair cut.
