    Salad nicoise

What a find! I had thought given the close proximity to the entrance way to the old town that this was going to be a " tourist trap". But the food was wonderful and the service matched it as well. I stopped in for lunch on a sunny Thursday afternoon. The hostess warmly greeted me and asked if I wanted to sit inside or out. With the lovely patio area beckoning me shaded by a very old tree, the decision was not a hard one. "Out", said I and was quickly seated at the perfect table shaded from the sun but where I could watch the people go by. While they had several specials that day- I opted for the "reconstructed salade Nicoise " which came with a poached egg instead of the more traditional hard boiled version and was served with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette . And of course- no meal would be complete without some crunchy French bread and a glass of red wine. Both were perfection on the spring afternoon. My server spoke good English and even tolerated my bad french which was even more appreciated. A lovely treat to sit outside and enjoy my meal and at 25e it felt like it was well worth the money. And if you choose to use the restrooms after your meal- you will enter the restaurant and climb up a very tight circular staircase to the 2nd floor to some very clean unisex restrooms. Another plus? This restaurant also runs a little ice cream/ gelato shop next door. I ordered my favorite scoop in a bowl ( salted caramel for those of you wondering) and with spoon in hand, continued on my journey to explore this darling town. I had many lunches on this trip, but none quite as enjoyable as sitting outside, listening to the people around me as I enjoyed my food under the leaves of a very old tree. Tres Bon!

Food was good. Waitress was dumb as a rock. When asked what she recommended. She was so clueless.

Best restaurant in town. We loved the food there and went there twice in four days. The fish and pasta are really good.

The place is nice, but the food was not great. Fish needed salt, calamari fries were a greasy mess. Not impressed at all.

It has the added advantage of being right at the entrance to the town. To continue. The service is abrupt and not particularly attentive, but professional without grace. The food was very mixed. I had a delicious beef, carefully prepared and sauced, but one of my dining partners had a lamb which was tough and tasteless. The real issue that lowered my review score to just "OK" was the cigar smoke from the next table. it is bad enough to have to endure the lessening addiction of the French to stinking up their environment with cigarette smoke, but cigar smoke is beyond the pale. Nothing is as annoying as having a bite of perfectly prepared beef ruined by a cloud of stink from another table. A word to the restaurant management; If you can't see fit to ban smoking from the restaurant, then at least keep it to cigarettes. I would think any self-respecting chef would want his work to be appreciated without the smell of ash over-riding his creations.

The food was amazing, to put simply. My friends ordered variations of the ratatouille. Putting it inside a crepe is such a novel idea and mixed with egg just made it irresistible. After trying it I wished I had ordered the same. I, instead, chose to order the honey, chevre salad. Those are two things that should always be together on a salad. The sweet honey and the baked chevre are MOUTH WATERING. I am unsure of how this message has not been passed along to American restaurants yet. Please start doing this and I will eat salads daily (or maybe just more often than once a month). It had every flavor you could want from a salad and topped with bread to make even more delectable. The view is beautiful and overlooks the valley. You can daydream about the houses you'll never be able to afford or instead about which wines to try next. I was right, large burger cooked to a perfect juicy medium with sautéed pancetta and onions, melted mozzarella, tomato and lettuce on a brioche bun....perfect....delicious.....outstanding My wife had the Spaghetti with clams, mild disappointment as a few clams had sand and the sauce was bland. It needed additional garlic and salt to say the least. We wrapped up win traditional creme brûlée which was wonderful. We are also grateful for their endless patience dealing with my pathetic attempts at the French language (two years of high school level French, it embarrasses my husband routinely) and their own knowledge of English is so superb that the subtleties of wine region and varietal discussions are easily communicated. The food is created from local sources, and the delights of the gardens on the hotel grounds. Each amuse bouche has featured flowers and herbs grown on site, and each appetizer has been even better than the last we tried. A true highlight has been the VEGETABLE ELEMENT (I know, I'm a tried and true carni-phile, but dude, DUDE the veg!) of each dish. Our roasted vegetable appetizer we enjoyed this evening featured a stuffed squash blossom, caramelized tomatoes, and stuffed onion with olive tapenade, all rich and flavorful and fresh and delicious. This chef has even created asparagus that I not only eat, but ENJOY, and that is a true accomplishment. Eat here. It's pricey, yes, but the food and experience are worth it.
