TL;DR/The Short Version: Asian restaurant that caters to…read moreoffice workers in the area. Only open weekdays. I got the Bento Box and loved the variety. The Long Version: My husband and I came here for a late lunch on a Friday. We had just had a late breakfast on the train ride to Montreal, so my husband wasn't too hungry, but I really wanted to try Atelier Asie and they close at 3pm and aren't open on weekends, and our Montreal visits are mostly only on weekends, so we rarely have the chance to try it. And let's be honest, I can always eat, haha. Anyway, so he just got some appetizers, an order of vegetable spring rolls ($2.99 for 3) and an order of tempura shrimp ($4.99 for 4). I got the General Tao Chicken Bento Box ($13.49) because I love variety. My Bento Box came with General Tao Chicken on a bed of white rice with some cabbage, 2 vegetable spring rolls, 2 chicken dumpling, a salad, a few cubes of fried potatoes and a tiny portion of Japchae. I asked for no sesame seeds and they didn't sprinkle any on the chicken, but the Japchae was premixed with sesame seeds. I noticed this right away, so just gave the Japchae to my husband. The General Tao Chicken was delicious. It was crispy and the meat was lean chicken breast. The sauce was more sweet than tangy and was not spicy, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The rice was good and I liked the accompanying cabbage. The spring rolls were hot and crispy. They were mostly wrapper and the vegetables inside were a bit mushy but they were second fiddle to the chicken anyway, lol. The chicken dumplings were tasty. Lots of ground chicken inside. The fried potato cubes were a bit softer than I expected. I didn't love them, but they were ok. The salad was romaine lettuce and shredded carrots in a soy based dressing. Vegetables were fresh. My husband enjoyed his appetizers. The tempura shrimp were actually more torpedo shrimp. Oh, he also enjoyed the tiny portion of Japchae from my meal since it contained sesame seeds. I like that they have a self-service station with lemon water and tea, both from dispensers. There's seating to dine in with even a second floor, but the second floor was closed during our visit. Food is brought out in takeout containers though. Staff were pleasant. Decor is casual. Overall a great quick service restaurant with solid mainstream Asian food. Street parking only. If you love Chinese dim sum and dumplings you are at the right place. As its name says, this is a small spot but the plates are gigantic so it's best to go with other folks. So the place is tiny, crowded with takeout boxes, with the takeout customers awkwardly milling about, the tables are as basic as they get, there's almost no seating, and we were kind of boxed in. WHO CARES? THE DUMPLINGS ARE GREAT! We had spectacular service in three languages, and the chef came out to check on us amidst all the chaos of a Friday night rush and we had a brief and lovely conversation about dipping sauces. It is a little odd the sauces are extra, and the only minor nit I can pick is that they were a teensy bit bland compared to what I'm accustomed to. But delicious nevertheless and worth shelling out the extra money for if you've a mind. But the dumplings are so delicious they honestly don't need sauce. Delectable and done just right. I'm sure their business model supports a lot of takeout, but the quality here is of a haute cuisine restaurant. A new location, menus without pictures, a little dim light, you could have a Michelin three-star experience. But in the meantime, I'm delighted to have found this place and look forward to coming back again.

The Long Version: My husband and I came here for dinner and we thought it was great. The food was tasty and the price was very affordable. The wait was a bit long though because it appeared to be a one-man show. We got the Classic Shanghai Wonton Soup ($9.99) and the Classic Siomai ($8.99) and shared both. The wontons and Siomai seemed to be made in-house and were large and delicious. We also got free fortune cookies. The wontons in the wonton soup were filled with ground pork and I believe a leafy green vegetable called shepherds purse. The wrapper wasn't too thick. The broth was a bit salty but still ok. The broth had tiny dried shrimps in it, as well as green onions and seaweed. The seaweed had a strong fishy smell to it, which I wasn't a huge fan of, but overall I still enjoyed the soup. The Siomai were filled with sticky rice, beans and ground meat. You only get 4 but they were quite large. We really liked these. We only saw the one man working there, and I think he did everything, including cooking the food. He didn't say very much but was polite. There are only a handful of tables in the entire restaurant. I think it seats about 14 people. Decor is very basic and except for the plants along the wall it's pretty utilitarian. I suspect it's popular with students as it's right by Concordia University.
