Large grilled chicken pho
Bowie T.

Very cute pho spot in old Montreal. Came here on a Saturday night for a solo dinner around 8pm. Lots of tables open with patrons dotting the restaurant and some coming in for takeout. Pros: - chicken pho broth was very light and flavorful - I chose the grilled chicken option (want to try poached next time) and at first it didn't look like too many pieces, but there's a decent portion of protein in there - seating area was comfortable - food came out quickly and ordered at the till easily

Nems, super crispy

What a delightful find. We were walking around the area looking for a lunch spot, a bit jaded by all of the mediocre options we saw before Le Petit Sao. Then we walked into this culinary gem. We ordered the fried nems, fried wontons, grilled chicken Banh Mi and a grilled chicken Pho. Everything was fresh and delicious! I was particularly impressed with the hot and crispy nems which were fresh out of the fryer and the rich and flavorful Pho broth. The ambiance is cozy yet lively with great Vietnamese and modern background music, warm lighting and eye pleasing decor. The attentive staff was top notch, offering friendly service and expert menu recommendations. Overall 5 stars. Perfect spot for classic Vietnamese flavors and delicious dishes.

Visiting Montreal for the weekend and looking for somewhere quick and easy for lunch, in the Old Montreal neighbourhood is Le Petit Sao. I love viet food, I didn't realize this place was a chain, so coming across it I immediately ducked a head in to check it out. I will admit, I am very much one to judge a book by its cover, and the cover was so cute! The decor down to the menus were pleasing to the eye. It's cafeteria style but the waiters will still come around after you have ordered at the front. Ordering was not a problem, they have English menus available too. It was pretty affordable, I even got the mini sized pho and thought it was perfect. Now i'm normally not a fan of chicken pho but it was so good here! Maybe because it was grilled? And my partner got banh mi which smelt so good. I also tried the pandan yuzu drink, I can't remember if it was limited time only. It was okay.... I think the yuzu was really overpowering. The sundae was so interesting, I think it was peanut hoisin sauce? Never thought i'd have it on my ice cream but it surprisingly wasn't bad. They have merch and locally made beverages available for take-out. Wasn't too busy for the Friday afternoon with plenty of seating, free wi-fi as well.

Chicken pho w poached chicken, YUM!!!

Yummy Chicken Pho w Poached chicken. Had a delicious veggie spring role too! And a very refreshing Jasmine Peach Tea drink.. a must try if you like cool, refreshing sweet tea drinks! Service was friendly and very fast too. It is a must try if you like Pho! Highly recommend this restaurant!

We were in downtown Montreal and instead of French cuisine we wanted to find a Vietnamese place (a favorite of my mom and aunt who were with us). We had recently visited another Vietnamese restaurant which was absolutely stunning and were thrilled to find one so close to where we were with good reviews. I think that's honestly where things started to turn downhill. When we entered seating was alright, but all menus were in French. After searching against the wall we spent another 10-15 minutes trying to match food images on yelp with their menu until we find a itty bitty piece of paper with "English menu here" QR code. After that we were able to order a few staples like their Pho, Banh Mi, and Nems (Vietnamese fried paper egg rolls). When we asked about the meat they stated that they offered only tofu, pork, and chicken...which was a small red flag for a place trying to serve authentic Vietnamese cuisine. So we ended up getting the pork and chicken variants of all of the dishes. The pho with chicken was essentially a lightly flavored broth with good textured noodles but with grilled chicken sliced and tossed in the soup. The chicken itself wasn't the type you'd find in chicken pho but more of an afterthought. The cold noodle dish with pork was served with green lettuce but with also other salad greens (which is not seen in normal Vietnamese cuisine), which really hindered the flavor of the overall dish. Lastly, the banh mi had some of the staples of banh mi like pickled radishes etc. but instead of tureen pate etc., it had soy/sriracha etc which made the sandwich taste really odd...Overall, I think they tried their best to create authentic Vietnamese cuisine with a twist which I applaud them for but they fell short sadly in my book.

Faux pho! Still tasted good though.

I think this place is a chain and it serves what I would consider to be faux pho and faux Vietnamese and pan asian fare. When I walked in and saw no asian people working here, I thought, oh sheeiiit, this is not what I wanted. But I buckled up and went for the ride anyway. It was not terrible, but just not amazing either. Not too far from Notre Dame Cathedral.

Cute stop near the Intercontinental. Family of 4, approximately 90 USD with just one iced lemonade and one app, one small bowl of pho with noodles and three large mains. Broth was delicious on my small bowl with poached chicken and zoodles. Fresh lovely taste, not spicy. Not a huge menu and probably not overly authentic. Note-- extremely warm in there but they provide unlimited cool water:)

Salad Pad Pho Poulet Grillé

Healthy, fresh Vietnamese. A really great experience at Le Petit Sao. They recently launched a new menu filled with so many great options - both vegan and meat friendly. I had the Salad Pad Pho with Grilled Chicken which had everything that a healthy, satisfying Vietnamese meal should have - a great balance of salad, juicy chicken, noodles with peanuts and sprouts topped with a lime. 10/10 The spring rolls were also a good appetizer 8/10 I would love to return again for the Salad Pad Pho, as well as to try their Pho soup and Papaya Salad. They also have a Kids Menu!

Love coming to the Atwater market stall. During my last visit I had the grilled chicken bowl and it was amazing. All ingredients were fresh and nicely balanced together. Highly recommend !!!

It's a cute small spot that we had found 2 minutes before walking in on a rainy day . It was empty but as soon as you walk in you feel like you're in a slight tropical vibe . The waitress was really nice , the food came quite quickly and fresh too. The drinks were great :) One thing I would change though is if there are more than 2 people sharing appetizers just to bring small plates , since we didn't get some I had to go and ask for the small plates but it's okay it happens. I would recommend and go back to try the other menu items !

What a privilege to be able to enjoy well prepared Vietnamese food served in large portions. My family made reservations for noon on a Saturday and thankfully so, because the line was out the door upon arrival. We ordered a pho dac biet (#15) and bun bo hue dac biet (#24) . Come hungry, because their large bowls are massive! Their pho was so nourishing and comforting on a rainy day. Each bowl loaded with a hefty serving of meat, tendon and tripe. The herbs were incredibly fresh and even came with culantro! But the star of this meal had to be the bun bo hue; I haven't had such an amazing bun bo hue from a restaurant in a long time. The broth was beefy and loaded with tender pieces of meat, but also finally had enough of the lemongrass essence I crave for in bbh. It packed just the right amount of heat without it being overpowering or mouth-numbing. I practically licked the bowl clean at the end of the meal. My family was ecstatic to have found another spot that hits close to home for them. Flavors are impeccable and portion sizes are very generous. We already decided that we will be regulars. You'll catch us here very often!

The selection of menu was incredibly special. The offering is Northern Vietnamese food and these special dishes are really hard to find at any different Vietnamese restaurant. Bun Cha Ha Noi - is also called Obama noodle because President Obama had it when he was in Vietnam. Besides the grilled pork, the hardest thing in my opinion is the sauce, which was good here. The only that bothered me is how small the portion is. We had to order extra meat for my daughter. Bun Dau Mam Tom - I have high expectation for a very authentic Vietnamese disk so I was not impressed with their Bun Dau Mam Tom. It normally comes with pork intestine. Where is my pork intestine? Haha Again the portion is also very small. Nem be which is similar to spring roll was also something we called at the end when everyone was still hungry. In my opinion, it is a bit expensive for the food and the portions are small.

Whatever it was Pho Saigon Viet-Nam served me up the best Satay Beef Pho I ever tasted. I started my lunch meal with spring rolls ($5,00). They were good but not the best spring rolls I ever had. The roll I thought was a bit chewy. Next came the Satay Beef ($12) which totally flavored the Pho. It was the best Pho I ever had but mind you I am no expert. They have a strange business model in that a small bowl is $11 and a large bowl is $12. It came out piping hot. I had to let it sit, as well as, blow on the broth to cool it down. The staff was tri-lingual. Imagine that! The food came out quick. It seems a lot of locals dine here. The restaurant is located in Chinatown. The street entrance is below ground level. The restaurant is somewhat dated and upkeep could be improved. The food is a 5 STAR in my opinion.

The restaurant was relatively empty. Tabletops had a bit of a stench to it and the menus handed to us were sticky. Not one to judge a book by its cover and these conditions are fairly common in Chinatown. The menu was pretty extensive with all the common dishes. I really wanted some banh cuon or banh uot, but on a frigid night, I felt like some pho would hit the spot instead. The bun bo hue and banh canh were very enticing to me; those would've been great options on a cold night as well. Prices were reasonable ranging from 12-16$ based on size. We ordered a small and medium; instantly regretted not getting a bigger size though because I def could have eaten more. Broth was darker than normal. Nothing stood out about the broth, but it was pretty spice-forward and still very much hit the spot. They surprisingly loaded up on the meat; I've never had this much meat in my bowl of pho at any other restaurants. The noodles were also cooked perfectly! Realistically I probably wouldn't come back here as often if my other usual spots were open, but I'm especially grateful they were welcoming during holiday hours. I noticed that the banh xeo and some other dishes were cheaper than other places though, so maybe I'll return for that. CASH ONLY.
