Average pho place - quick service. We originally wanted to get beef noodle soup down the street but there was a long line and it was freezing cold so we came here instead. They offer three different sizes of pho and lots of options. They also had the spicy beef pho which has quite the kick. Fried wontons were crispy and hot! read more

Plenty of options for pho. I had the grilled chicken pho = excellent . The staff was super friendly and speak multiple languages. My wife and I really appreciate the spicy chiles that are served as accompaniments. Quiet while we were there so we could have dinner conversations. Our friends ordered the Rangoon and spring rolls which were also delicious. read more

Stopped by Pho Bac 97 before hopping on a flight from YUL airport. It was around 1pm on a Tuesday and super CROWDED! We were seated in the center of the dining room and it was quite tight. All the staff were occupied with other customers, so I had to flag one down to get our order going. I ordered an iced Viet coffee with a Pho Bo Vien, Pho Ga and Pho Dac Biet, all in medium size. The portions were pretty generous and the flavors were really good. My coffee was a great balance between coffee and milk as well. It was the right choice for an in-and-out meal! read more

Food was fresh, service was awesome, the table and sitting Space were a bit Small for my liking, however the kids loved it.

Warm, delicious, no nonsense, fast. Good vegetarian options if you're looking! The vegetable pho was packed with fresh produce. Good tea and fresh herbs provided. Service was quick and courteous. read more

Coming from NYC. Did not have very high expectation.expectations. However we quickly realized both the beef Pho and Bun Bo Hue were better than what I have had in NYC. The soup flavors were deep and complex. Service was also quite good and friendly (unlike what you get in NYC) Will definitely come back whenever we visit Montreal read more

I haven't tried too many pho places in Montreal but I had a lot of pho from NYC and from Vietnam. Pho Bac came recommended to me by someone who is familiar with the area and it did not disappoint! #5 is soul soothing and full of flavor. The food came out very quickly and the service was no frills. Don't come for the ambiance, come for the food! read more

We are came to Montreal and found this Vietnamese restaurant on Yelp and it was great. The food is authentic. Pho đặc biệt (special bowl of Pho) and Bun Bò Huế are tasted very good and very big portions. Server if friendly and helpful. The appetizer: Goi cuốn ( spring rolls) and peanut sauce are on point. The place was crowded but service was good. Highly recommended for Vietnamese foods. read more

The Bon Bo hue hits. Do know that the broth doesn't come out red, you can add as much chili oil you want after the dish is brought to the table. I got the Grilled shrimp & pork on rice as well. Such good portions and large shrimps, very flavourful. I peeped other table's pho dishes too and it all looked so good. Definitely a solid & consistent viet restaurant in Montreal! read more

On a cold night, this place really, really hit the spot! As anyone who's had more than a couple bowls of pho knows, for a 'simple' soup every place makes their a little differently. And everyone who likes pho likes theirs a little different and has their own favorite place. For us, Pho Bac was absolutely exactly what we look for. The broth was flavorful, but not too oily or too heavy on the basil or cilantro. Both the regular beef broth and the veggie broth were solid, usually the veggies broth turns out to be bland, but theirs was shockingly rich. Noodles and meats/veggies were all good as well, and service was efficient (as it pretty much always is in pho places). If it's cold and you want some soup, you can't go wrong here! read more

Pho: we got two of the #5 pho, it came with a lot of noodles and had a flavorful broth Beef over rice: very stingy with the beef portion, small skirt steak over a huge bed of rice with a little bit of lettuce "salad" Shrimp summer roll: wouldn't recommend, too much noodles and it was 1.5 shrimp per roll (3 half shrimp for each spring roll), dipping sauce was chunky in a bad way Cha gio (spring roll): this was good, crispy Service: pretty bad and rude overall, slow service, has to repeat things multiple times to get bowls, a box to go. The attitude of the person at the register was horrible overall. Ambiance: no ambiance, very utilitarian four walls and a couple of chairs... the floors were also wet everywhere which is quite the safety hazard Overall the pho was good, the other things I ordered were just ok but the service was horrible horrible horrible. They made us and most other guests feel unwelcome and were slow and forgetful. read more

After almost a week of eating delicious Quebecois food I was in need of Asian food. The make a very solid bowl of pho located in Montreal's Chinatown. Comes in 3 different sizes (small, large, and XL). Comes with Thai basil, bean sprouts, and a wedge of lemon. Also ordered a side of cha gio which came out piping hot and were delicious. They didn't come with herbs or lettuce to wrap the cha gio but the accompanying nouc cham was good. Service is quick and efficient. As soon as we sat down we had hot tea at the table and within about 5 minutes the waiter came over to take our order. Remember your table number since you'll need it when you go up to the register to pay at the end of your meal. This place is cash only, which seems to be the norm in Chinatown. The restaurant is clean, tidy, and bright. White tiles, white walls, and a faux sky painted onto the ceiling and in between some arches dress up the decor. This restaurant would not be out of place in California. There appears to be extra space downstairs as well. If you're looking for a Vietnamese food fix in Montreal, this is a solid pick. read more

Food There were quite a few items we wanted, and they did not have it due to supply chain issues. Pho broth was tasty. My favorite was the summer rolls. Very memorable. Service: acceptable. The wait staff seated up, took our order, and served the food. They do not bring you ur bill. You have to get it yourself and pay at the cash register. So..semi self-service. You figure out the tip. Ambiance: no frills and old school style. Still comfortably seated. read more

When in Chinatown and in the mood for Vietnamese food, this is the #1 spot. The waiters may come off as surly, but they're pussycats. Now the food is great, never a miss. I like it extra spicy, and they don't disappoint... either chili sauce or fresh chilis. Ambiance is like a hospital cafeteria, not suitable for a romantic first date. Tip: The place is cash only, so go in with an old school wallet. Hot tip: They do tend to close well ahead of their closing hours, so best to arrive an hour before close. read more

Really, really good pho. One of the best. Service was quick, the lady very nice. Definitely coming back.

Chinatown during Christmas is always bustling, no matter where you are. No difference here, as many shops were open for dinner for the holiday. This spot only had one table available, which we were able to snag without a wait. Started off by sharing the Spring Rolls ($6). Open for the veggie version with no shrimp, still good flavor when dipping into the peanut sauce. For the main course, ordered the Bun Bo Hue ($15) - a spicy beef stew with long fresh noodles. No extra chili oil necessary as there's a big kick; meat is fattier than expected. They also give a complimentary pot of green tea while waiting for the food (and to warm up from the cold) Service may take some time because of the crowd, and inside can be a little hectic. Overall positive experience for a place open on Christmas. read more

We ordered the raw beef pho (Tai) and a special pho with various toppings. We chose the medium size, which was just right for us, and they served us a pot of tea as soon as we arrived. The taste didn't leave a strong impression, but on a cold day, it's nice to have a hot bowl of soup noodles. We both felt warm and happy after eating it, so it's perfect for winter. We also ordered spring rolls with shrimp and vegetables, but we didn't like the outer layer, which was made of a chewy flour. If we had to choose again, we would have gone for the crispy spring rolls. read more

Went alone on a very cold Montreal night and was luckily seated right away (a lot of larger parties did have a wait tho!). Ordered a large #5 which took little to no time to come out and was very pleasantly suprised with how flavorful the soup was. It was flavorful without it being salty or oily. I think the noodles were just sliiightly overcooked but that could have also been because Im a bit of a slow eater and it was such a large portion size it took me a while to get through. Overall very good pho, and if youre in the area and in a soup-y mood, definitely worth stopping by! read more

I had high hopes because of all the positive reviews. We arrived to Montreal pretty late and this was the only restaurant that did not have a long wait so we tried it out. It went downhill pretty quick. Service: We ordered the large pho, beef plate and appetizer to share. When we asked our server for an extra plate, he acted like sharing was unheard of and proceed to charge us $6 for a bowl. We ended up not even getting a bowl and we had to use the tea cups as a bowl. When we tried to pay, the credit card machine was not working, but the server acted like our card was declined when everyone that was trying to pay had the same issue. Food: The pho broth was not very flavorful and noodles were mushy. The rice dish was very good, and beef was cooked perfectly. This is probably one of the worst experiences and the food was not worth the trouble. We paid around 50 Canadian ( pho, rice dish, bowl we never got, atm fee) There are so many other places to try out in Montreal that I would avoid this restaurant. read more

The food and restaurant itself was probably closer to 3.5 stars but the service was efficient I have decided to round up! The reviews on Yelp were generally positive so we decided to give Pho Bac 97 a try. They are located in Chinatown in Montreal. We went fairly early (before lunchtime) and just wanted to try out their pho and spring rolls. We ordered two XL specials and two of the fried spring rolls. The pho was good. Came with dry noodles. The broth was flavourful. I noticed they don't have beef balls in the special though. Spring rolls were average. I usually prefer the super deep fried ones. These ones here tasted more light and were skinnier. Would I come back again? Probably if I am in the neighbourhood and happen to be craving pho! read more

Unpleasant smell. Left before even ordering food. The management needs to fix it !!!

We came to this pho place a few years back and have not stopped thinking about the amazing pho that this place serves. So, when we traveled back to Montreal, we had to stop by here and get as much pho as we can eat. We are from New York City, and if you know New York, it is def. not a pho scene there, but this place just leaves you feeling full, satisfied, and amazing broth feel. usually, pho is made with a ton of MSG and artificial taste that leaves your mouth feeling dry afterwards; however, this place did not give us that feel. The pho broth is rich, and beef-y. For the price and varying sizes, it is def. worth it. The wait time was not too bad for a busy day and for fresh noodles. The pho was steaming hot when it came out, so it made it taste better for how hungry we were. The pho had a delicious broth, it was deep in flavor and def. had a good warmth to the throat. The meat pieces were large and the portion size was def. good. The bun bo hue had a goood spice kick to it and I appreciated how deep the flavors are, as most places do not do the soup justice. We also got a side of spring rolls, which were the standard, but how can we not order spring rolls in our Viet meal?? Def. check this place out. read more

We needed some food after a few hours of drinking so we headed over to Chinatown. I wanted pho and found one of the few places still open, Pho Bac 97. It's located a few doors down from Nouilles de Lan Zhou. We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 9:30pm). The place got a crazy last minute rush then died off again. The menu is split into appetizers, pho, rice vermicelli, rice (grilled and sautéed), combos and dessert. For the pho, you choose between three sizes (small, medium and XL). - Goi cuon (#1) ($4.50) - shrimp and vegetable spring rolls. It would have been decent except they used cheap quality, shredded lettuce that tasted off. - Bun bo xao sa (hoac ga) (#24) ($11.50) - beef sautéed with lemongrass on vermicelli and salad. Looked pretty typical but CC enjoyed it. - Com ga nuong (#26) ($13.00) - grilled chicken, rice and salad. Cbear didn't touch the salad but I don't blame her. Grilled chicken and rice looked plain. - Bun bo hue (#16) ($10.50 medium) - the broth was incredibly salty. 100% MSG. Not much depth or spiciness to their BBH. Super disappointing. Too many better places in Chinatown to waste a meal here. read more

I dropped in around lunch time on a Wednesday and there wasn't any wait, but it quickly filled up. I went with a friend that is an absolute pho lover and she was pretty impressed! An authentic Vietnamese restaurant. The owner speaks English, French and Cantonese. When I ordered the beef tendon pho but he said tendon ran out, he recommended brisket instead. This place looks quite ordinary from the outside, but their pho is excellent! I ordered the grilled chicken pho, and the broth was amazing. Perfectly flavorful and salty enough, without it neing too much nor too less. The chicken was also perfectly tasty. All for only 12$ taxes included for a small bowl, which is a pretty good size portion. Service is also good, they are quick and efficient. You go pay at the cash register. This pho hit the spot. Located in the center of Chinatown, it's a cheap little Vietnamese restaurant that offers pho and other Vietnamese dishes that you can find at other Vietnamese restaurants. Nothing fancy, fluorescent lights and kind of a bare bones service. We were seated right away and brought lovely jasmine tea like the kind that is served at Chinese restaurants. After looking over the menu, a man came by to take our orders without writing anything down. I ordered a medium pho, which ended up being a dollar cheaper than the small, but too much food for me to finish. I also ordered a spring roll, which here, means the unfried rice paper roll filled with bean spouts, vermicelli noodles, the white parts of lettuce and shrimp. The peanut sauce that it was served with was good, but I've had better rolls. Oh and by the way, they're called "summer rolls" where I'm from if you're more familiar with that term. I asked a waiter (?) for water and he didn't even acknowledge me, but another man brought us waters.... we had to go up to the cash register to pay. If the service was better, this place would be better than a-ok, but for now, it's just 3 stars in my book. read more

Located in the heart of Chinatown and one of several Vietnamese restaurants which serve Pho. This place in my opinion could use better service and a deep cleaning. One of my pet peeves is when the bathroom is absolutely disgusting, it makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. read more

When in Chinatown, check out this place if you're looking for a quick bite. My go to is always the Special Noodle as has a bit of everything if you can't choose your topping. It's a pretty standard bowl of pho, I found the soup base to be decent, not overly salty. And I think service can be a hit or miss, they're not super friendly folks but I don't think they are trying to come off as rude, most likely just a language barrier problem. read more

We walked all day long around Old Montreal, Old Port and Chinatown area and just wanted something that was nice warm and comforting. We heard that Montreal had a really good Viet scene and decided to check this hole in the wall place out. Like most reviews, don't expect much in the way of service here. But the food was actually quite good. We ordered the standard Large Special Pho, which is #5 on the menu. The bowl was quite large. It filled me up pretty good. Coming from NYC where we can get very good Pho this place is pretty much neck and neck with some of the good ones in NYC. The meat was sufficiently portioned for a large bowl. You get the raw beef round and also the cooked beef brisket that has some fat and nice flavor. They also give plenty of garnish to go with it all including scallions, cilantro, Thai basil, bean sprouts, lemon and even a chili pepper (be careful with the pepper). But what makes a Pho good is also the broth. This one was very meaty in flavor and savory at just the right amount. The noodles were cooked right and aldente. The broth could have been a bit more hot in my opinion. But other than that it was a winner in my book. Hit all the right notes and was warm and comforting for someone with tired legs in chilly weather. Another plus while we were there was a bunch of Vietnamese people eating there and really e enjoying the food. If their own people eat there, that's a really good sign. I wouldn't mind going back to try their spring rolls, summer rolls and other family style plates as well. All in all a good meal and reasonably priced. Walked out full and satisfied, the two of us, for just $24 (with tip included). read more

Came to visit Montreal last year with some of my friends. Having heard about the amazing asian food in Montreal, I definitely had to look for a decent Pho place. Thanks to the amazing reviews on yelp, we were able to find this place. We got there slightly before the dinner rush so were seated fairly quickly. The menu had a good amount of selections of authentic vietnamese food. I had to try their pho but my friend got a noodle dish. The wait time wasnt too bad for fresh food. My pho was steaming hot when it came out so that made it even better for how hungry I was. The pho itself had a rich delicious broth. The meat pieces were large and I was happy with my portion sizes. The spice level was just right and I definitely enjoyed devouring my meal. My friend seemed to enjoy his dish as well. I would definitely recommend coming and trying the food! read more

Honestly, this is an "okay" place. We ordered vermicelli noodles -- one chicken and one beef option. But at first they mistakenly brought a bowl with pork. Thankfully my wife realized that and asked them to double check. The food taste was fine but not the best. Having tried several other vietnamese places in Montreal, I would definitely be inclined to other options. The place is also not super clean. Overall, it's an okay place to get a quick bite but if you want to get the best quality look somewhere else. read more

After a weary long day of travel and walking between New York State and crossing the Canadian border, our tour bus of thirty five Americans worked up an appeitie for dinner. We came here after having a very bad taste of McDonald's for lunch. Vietnamese Pho is good comfort food as I enjoy noodle soup. The staff is somewhat attentive to our table but were mistakening give our table one combined check. My Mom and I were sitting with our tour bus group along with our guide which the waiter automatically assume we would get one combined bill. Not! When we were finished with our meal I requested the check in Canto which the waiter instructed to go to the cashier (without any ticket or paper bill). Luckily the staff speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, English and of course French. Multi-lingual opens doors indeed! Cash only as Pho Bac 97 does not accept credit cards in any format. We came to Pho Bac 97 for a snack before dinner. We ended up ordering the bun bo hue. The original bun bo hue comes with pigs blood and pig feet. I opted out of that and only got rare beef. Usually the soup comes steaming hot and the rare beef gets cooked. In this case the soup was luke warm so basically my beef was rare the entire time. I was lucky I didn't get sick after eating that. Even my noodle was supposed to be milk noodles but was given pho noodles! Other than the temperature of the soup it was flavourful with a hint of shrimp flavour. It was pretty tasty. The restaurant was quite dirty with sticky floors. They didn't have any of the milk shake like all the typical Vietnamese restaurants would have. All in all ok but would not come back. read more
