Warm, delicious, no nonsense, fast. Good vegetarian options if you're looking! The vegetable pho was packed with fresh produce. Good tea and fresh herbs provided. Service was quick and courteous.

Chicken pho, beef pho, iced coffee, spring rolls

I walked past a line of people waiting to get into the 'famous' noodle shop a few doors down from Pho Bac, in freezing weather, and look - I get it. We've been to the noodle shop too, waiting for an hour to get in, and it's delicious. But seriously - skip the line. Go to Pho Bac. We've been going there for years, and it's always delicious, consistent, and fairly priced. The people that run and work here are some of the best I've ever met. The iced coffee alone would bring me here - I once drove two hours, along with the border crossing (I live in New York), because my kid wanted the pho from here for her 18th birthday. Yes - it's that good. The broth for both the beef and the chicken are so nuanced in their deep flavors. The ingredients are fresh and the proteins are cooked to perfection. I love the family that owns this place! They make sure you are happy with what you ordered, and will make suggestions of things you might like to try. Take them up on their suggestions - they are absolutely right!!!

I haven't tried too many pho places in Montreal but I had a lot of pho from NYC and from Vietnam. Pho Bac came recommended to me by someone who is familiar with the area and it did not disappoint! #5 is soul soothing and full of flavor. The food came out very quickly and the service was no frills. Don't come for the ambiance, come for the food!

Pho: we got two of the #5 pho, it came with a lot of noodles and had a flavorful broth Beef over rice: very stingy with the beef portion, small skirt steak over a huge bed of rice with a little bit of lettuce "salad" Shrimp summer roll: wouldn't recommend, too much noodles and it was 1.5 shrimp per roll (3 half shrimp for each spring roll), dipping sauce was chunky in a bad way Cha gio (spring roll): this was good, crispy Service: pretty bad and rude overall, slow service, has to repeat things multiple times to get bowls, a box to go. The attitude of the person at the register was horrible overall. Ambiance: no ambiance, very utilitarian four walls and a couple of chairs... the floors were also wet everywhere which is quite the safety hazard Overall the pho was good, the other things I ordered were just ok but the service was horrible horrible horrible. They made us and most other guests feel unwelcome and were slow and forgetful.

When in Chinatown and in the mood for Vietnamese food, this is the #1 spot. The waiters may come off as surly, but they're pussycats. Now the food is great, never a miss. I like it extra spicy, and they don't disappoint... either chili sauce or fresh chilis. Ambiance is like a hospital cafeteria, not suitable for a romantic first date. Tip: The place is cash only, so go in with an old school wallet. Hot tip: They do tend to close well ahead of their closing hours, so best to arrive an hour before close.

Went there just for the Vietnamese iced coffee. Order without any restrictions and limitations, just how they make it. It did not disappoint. So so good. The ambience is cozy and friendly. Family friendly. Staff were courteous and friendly. Will come back to check out the rest of the menu. But if you're in chinatown montreal, this is the place to go for a great iced coffee.

Chinatown during Christmas is always bustling, no matter where you are. No difference here, as many shops were open for dinner for the holiday. This spot only had one table available, which we were able to snag without a wait. Started off by sharing the Spring Rolls ($6). Open for the veggie version with no shrimp, still good flavor when dipping into the peanut sauce. For the main course, ordered the Bun Bo Hue ($15) - a spicy beef stew with long fresh noodles. No extra chili oil necessary as there's a big kick; meat is fattier than expected. They also give a complimentary pot of green tea while waiting for the food (and to warm up from the cold) Service may take some time because of the crowd, and inside can be a little hectic. Overall positive experience for a place open on Christmas.

Visiting Montreal for the first time from Philadelphia, PA! Needed some pho from this cold weather. Ordered #9 off the menu which is pho with steak and tripe and also the summer rolls for the appetizer. Summer rolls were pretty good, pho was okay...I've had better. The soup was just a little bland for my liking. Place was pretty tiny and service was good.

We ordered the raw beef pho (Tai) and a special pho with various toppings. We chose the medium size, which was just right for us, and they served us a pot of tea as soon as we arrived. The taste didn't leave a strong impression, but on a cold day, it's nice to have a hot bowl of soup noodles. We both felt warm and happy after eating it, so it's perfect for winter. We also ordered spring rolls with shrimp and vegetables, but we didn't like the outer layer, which was made of a chewy flour. If we had to choose again, we would have gone for the crispy spring rolls.

I had high hopes because of all the positive reviews. We arrived to Montreal pretty late and this was the only restaurant that did not have a long wait so we tried it out. It went downhill pretty quick. Service: We ordered the large pho, beef plate and appetizer to share. When we asked our server for an extra plate, he acted like sharing was unheard of and proceed to charge us $6 for a bowl. We ended up not even getting a bowl and we had to use the tea cups as a bowl. When we tried to pay, the credit card machine was not working, but the server acted like our card was declined when everyone that was trying to pay had the same issue. Food: The pho broth was not very flavorful and noodles were mushy. The rice dish was very good, and beef was cooked perfectly. This is probably one of the worst experiences and the food was not worth the trouble. We paid around 50 Canadian ( pho, rice dish, bowl we never got, atm fee) There are so many other places to try out in Montreal that I would avoid this restaurant.

My family made reservations for noon on a Saturday and thankfully so, because the line was out the door upon arrival. We ordered a pho dac biet (#15) and bun bo hue dac biet (#24) . Come hungry, because their large bowls are massive! Their pho was so nourishing and comforting on a rainy day. Each bowl loaded with a hefty serving of meat, tendon and tripe. The herbs were incredibly fresh and even came with culantro! But the star of this meal had to be the bun bo hue; I haven't had such an amazing bun bo hue from a restaurant in a long time. The broth was beefy and loaded with tender pieces of meat, but also finally had enough of the lemongrass essence I crave for in bbh. It packed just the right amount of heat without it being overpowering or mouth-numbing. I practically licked the bowl clean at the end of the meal. My family was ecstatic to have found another spot that hits close to home for them. Flavors are impeccable and portion sizes are very generous. We already decided that we will be regulars. You'll catch us here very often!

The selection of menu was incredibly special. The offering is Northern Vietnamese food and these special dishes are really hard to find at any different Vietnamese restaurant. Bun Cha Ha Noi - is also called Obama noodle because President Obama had it when he was in Vietnam. Besides the grilled pork, the hardest thing in my opinion is the sauce, which was good here. The only that bothered me is how small the portion is. We had to order extra meat for my daughter. Bun Dau Mam Tom - I have high expectation for a very authentic Vietnamese disk so I was not impressed with their Bun Dau Mam Tom. It normally comes with pork intestine. Where is my pork intestine? Haha Again the portion is also very small. Nem be which is similar to spring roll was also something we called at the end when everyone was still hungry. Whatever it was Pho Saigon Viet-Nam served me up the best Satay Beef Pho I ever tasted. I started my lunch meal with spring rolls ($5,00). They were good but not the best spring rolls I ever had. The roll I thought was a bit chewy. Next came the Satay Beef ($12) which totally flavored the Pho. It was the best Pho I ever had but mind you I am no expert. They have a strange business model in that a small bowl is $11 and a large bowl is $12. It came out piping hot. I had to let it sit, as well as, blow on the broth to cool it down. The restaurant was relatively empty. Tabletops had a bit of a stench to it and the menus handed to us were sticky. Not one to judge a book by its cover and these conditions are fairly common in Chinatown. The menu was pretty extensive with all the common dishes. I really wanted some banh cuon or banh uot, but on a frigid night, I felt like some pho would hit the spot instead. The bun bo hue and banh canh were very enticing to me; those would've been great options on a cold night as well. Prices were reasonable ranging from 12-16$ based on size. We ordered a small and medium; instantly regretted not getting a bigger size though because I def could have eaten more. Broth was darker than normal. Nothing stood out about the broth, but it was pretty spice-forward and still very much hit the spot. They surprisingly loaded up on the meat; I've never had this much meat in my bowl of pho at any other restaurants. The noodles were also cooked perfectly! Realistically I probably wouldn't come back here as often if my other usual spots were open, but I'm especially grateful they were welcoming during holiday hours. I noticed that the banh xeo and some other dishes were cheaper than other places though, so maybe I'll return for that. CASH ONLY.
