Jetlagged and bleary-eyed having just flown in from Singapore, I had gone to the Montparnesse Darty to purchase a washer/dryer. With a puchase successfully made in a matter of minutes, I stumbled outside. I then realized I had not eaten a proper meal in about 24 hrs. I quickly scanned the street for food options, and this one caught my eye...only because it seemed to be the only proper restsurant serving food at 10:15 a.m. on a Tuesday. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by the owner. Clearly me not being from around there, he asked in English if I preferred a menu in either English or French. I responded in my American-accented French that I preferred a French menu. He smiled and waved me to a table. I was the only customer in the restaurant. The staff were preparing for lunch, so service was attentive, but at a relaxed pace. I had enough time to review the menu and wine list. I ended up ordering the braised frog legs in a white, cream sauce and a boef bourgogne. I paired the frog legs with the only selection of champagne they had and the boef with a burgundy. Yes it's abt 10:30 in the morning, but day and time were just concepts. Putting aside "day-drinking" guilt, I had nowhere to go and no one to see at that time. The food needed paring with good wine! The champagne was decent, the wine was excellent; they do have an extensive wine list. Portions are enough for two people. I was famished, so I made quick work of the frog legs. I ate only half of the boef, and took the remaining to-go. The meal came with complimentary bread, which was light but sturdy enough to soak up the broth from the boef. Overall delicious food. Great service and large, but not overwhelming, menu choices including some not-so-typical French dishes. Large interior good for groups of 6-8.

The perfect place to grab breakfast before catching a train at Gare Montparnasse. I hadn't tried a typical French breakfast yet, and I'm glad I was able to here. Their breakfast menu is not extensive at all. They serve a croissant, half a baguette with butter and jam, egg, cooked in any style, coffee, and orange juice for 9 euros. The meal was surprisingly filling. I relished in its simplicity and ties to French culture. The staff was great and tolerant of my inability to speak any French. Definitely a tourist friendly place and worth checking out especially if you have to go to Gare Montparnasse afterwards.

Iberian Pork Pluma was absolutely mouthwatering.

This well established French restaurant in Montparnasse is popular for their tasty food and of course, their extensive wine pairing options. Tables do fill up quickly in the evenings, do consider booking ahead on their website if you are planning a meal here. We started with a delicious and rather noteworthy Soup "façon VGE" which paid homage to renowned French chef Paul Bocuse [who created this dish in 1975 to honor then president, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing (VGE)]. It comprised clear chicken broth with tiny bits of chicken, carrots, potatoes, foie gras, mushrooms and black truffles in a soup bowl covered by a dome of puff pastry. A hearty appetiser that was both warm and comforting on a chilly evening. Another appetiser - a Ravioli of Braised Beef Cheek was fork tender and very flavoursome. The doughy ravioli skin offered a nice bite while the filling within was a wonderful combo of beef, black pudding, smoked ham and ground coriander. The accompanying red wine sauce with spicy notes of chilli, was original and enlivening. Two seafood dishes - a Scallop appetiser and a Grilled Octopus main dish were perfectly cooked, intense flavours of the sea exploding with every bite. The light hazelnut cream sauce accompanying the scallops was excellent. The octopus dish with micro greens, fresh tomatoes, black olives and baby clams was equally scrumptious. A mouthwatering pork dish (using Iberian Pork Pluma) with accompanying puy lentils, was flavoured with Szechuan peppercorns and star anise respectively, the successful infusion of exotic spices giving this dish an unique appeal. While Le Petit Sommelier serves classic French cuisine within a traditional ambiance, their food tantalises with quirky touches here and there. A great spot in Paris to sample delicious French dishes in the lively Montparnasse neighbourhood.

This is a smaller place but served the best beef bourguignon and had a fabulous wine list.

A little shocked the waiter asked us to add a tip to the already $$$ bill. It was a delicious meal though.
