So I have decided to play a little game and choose a random neighborhood of Montreal and the first restaurant that could pique my interest. And voilà! Ahuntsic was the lucky card and this restaurant was randomly selected based on my Yelper curiosity. And oh boy did I make a great choice! It was easy to make a reservation and from the arrival to this restaurant the service was pleasant and friendly. Their food is delish, yes it was worth 30 something minute trip from Plateau to Le Millen. It's a BYOB restaurant which is great because bringing your favorite bottle or bottles is always a good thing. Their tartare is yammy and overall the whole experience left me satisfied. So yes, if you're looking to expand your horizons and step out outside of your neighborhood, then you should definitely consider checking out this place. You may just be surprised.

    Pistachio Creme Brulee

Overall great BYOB restaurant experience. I took the tasting menu with the amuse-bouche, scallops, trou normand, veal and langoustine, and pistachio creme brulee. ($77 before tip) Service: Nothing special. The waiter was not terrible with english, but could have done better. The menu was also french only which was a little annoying. (3/5) Atmosphere/decor: Restaurant was very minimalistic for the quality of food. I felt as if I were eating at a chain take-out eatery with plastic chairs. (1/5) Amuse-bouche: Bison tartar with asparagus, and crispy bread all seasoned with paprika. Excellent taste, nothing to add (5/5). Scallops: Scallops with pancetta, corn mash, spinach, and caramelized popcorn. Scallops were on the small side which was disappointing and the caramelized popcorn was unnecessary and detracted from the flavor (3/5) Trou Normand: grapefruit sorbet with vodka. Very interesting in the fact that the sweetness of the grapefruit mellowed out the vodka. I am not a big fan of the hard liquor and did not see the point of this, but it is traditional so I will rate it objectively (4/5). It would have been perfect if the alcohol was completely hidden since the point is to "aid in digestion". Veal and langoustine: veal with langoustine, smoked lard foam, onions, spinach, red cabbage and vinegar purree. Everything in this dish just worked even without a grain. (5/5) Pistachio Creme Brulee: Delcious, but nothing special. (3/5). Bread: Bread (nothing special) at the table was sometimes cold and sometimes "fresh" and warm. I don't understand why the bread was not always warm. The chive butter was superb (3/5) For the price I paid for the tasting menu, I definitely got my money's worth in terms of the ingredients and the superb plating. I have some grievances here and there, but I hope this new restaurant will keep on improving and continue to put out its great food. (3.5/5 overall)

Foie gras terrine (with the best brioche I have ever tasted) and bison carpaccio... both exquisite!

Ordinary food, ordinary ambiance, ordinary place, at a premium price in anyway justified. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

We tried: - complimentary bread, butter, pickles, mustard. I loved this. Never saw another restaurant plop down mustard and pickles. The mustard was also possibly the most delicious mustard I've ever had. Very spicy and slightly salty - Duck confit on beans $37. Tasty, crispy, rich. - Grilled octopus on pepper sauce with potatos $24. Really tender and flavourful. The sauce was bright and acidic - Sorrel soup $13.75. First time having sorrel. It has a slightly sour taste. The soup was creamy and tangy. I'm glad we tried it - Quail with quail eggs on purple rice $37.50. Quail itself wasn't as flavourful but the sauce was amazing and soaked into the rice - Creme brulee $15. Flavour was impeccable. Had a slight grainy texture which was odd but this is just nit picking. Comes with a warm cookie Everything was good. I'm being more nitpicky here than usual, mostly to go back to these notes again in the future. I loved the meal and would definitely go back. Service is very friendly. Food came out super fast. Server was nice even though at some point he was just standing there and we were waiting for him to come back to order dessert to the point where u actually had to call him but this was nothing truly. Lamb with sweet garlic sauce Filet mignon with five peppercorn and cognac sauce Key lime pie The meat was great, truly. The sauces? a total disgrace / turn off considering the price of each plate. Sweet garlic, had nothing I could say I feel the garlic in at all. Flavorless. Five pepercorn with cognac non existent ! The only time i taste the peppercorn was if I BIT the actual peppercorn. The dessert ? I ate 2 bites and left the entire thing. The "crust" was nowhere to be found it was watered down carton... and the lime layer felt like I was biting into fake jelly. I have nothing else to say but you can decide how you spend your money. The "fancy" restaurant leaves a lot to desire.

This was a quaint restaurant with a French feel...conservative paintings, breathtaking chandeliers and ornate ceilings. This Michelin restaurant was popular as there was a constant flow of diners. We again had appetizers, entrees and shared a dessert. Appetizers included lobster bisque and mixed green salad. The bisque was smooth and creamy.... seasoned extremely well. The mixed green salad has a finely drisled dressing. We had salmon and lamb breast. I had not heard of a lamb breast...only lamb chops. This lamb was the best I have ever eaten...super moist with light gravy. We ended our meal with shared cheesecake. Our server, George, was so delightful. He was humorous, engaging and so attentive. He is one of the best servers we have had in some time. We will definitely come back to Bonaparte and ask for George. Another memorable anniversary meal...

BEST "BYOB" FRENCH BISTRO DURING RECENT TRIP…read more This is the best dining experience in our recent Montreal trip. I'm glad we made reservation since the place was quite packed when we arrived. To be honest, our first impression wasn't too great. We were seated in their main indoor dining area which was a bit too warm. We asked if we can be moved to their fully covered / heated patio area, but unfortunately the restaurant was full. Fast forward 15 minutes, we have placed our order and were enjoying our bottle of wine and a basket of bread. Our server came over and offered to move us to the patio area since a table had opened up. We were pleasantly surprised because (1) we didn't ask again and (2) most restaurants wouldn't change tables once customers started eating/drinking. The restaurant setting is unpretentious with a casual and cozy vibes. The staff are so friendly that we feel like having a family dinner! They offer a pre-fixe menu in which we thoroughly enjoyed! For appetizers, the escargot dish gave us a pleasant surprise. They wrapped the escargots and blue cheese sauce in a thin crispy crust! It's hard to describe, but it's sort of like having an escargot "crepe"! The few main courses we chose were excellent, and the rack of lamb was probably our favorite - tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. As for dessert, their creme brulee was one of the best I've had - creamy custard topped with a perfect, crisp caramel top. I'd highly recommend this place, and will certainly visit again when I'm in town next time!

We stuck with a light red wine that we got from SAQ down the street that offered a tasting of some local wines.

Luckily, others in our group arrived earlier since they live closer so we had a table. However, I would definitely recommend making a reservation or arrive MUCH earlier/prepare to wait for a seat. There's a "busy" vibe inside but it's more like a bustling, happy, welcoming, and great overall addition to the environment. With how packed it was, it understandably took a while to be tended to but they did the best they can and were extremely polite. We were seated at a table in the middle area of the restaurant between the booths and surrounded by other tables/next to the bar area. It can feel like a tight squeeze at times but there was adequate space to dine without feeling suffocated or bumping elbows with other diners. I just don't know how the servers do it! I give the entire staff a large kudos for juggling so many plates in such little space. There are 2-3 individual washrooms, so if it's packed there may be a bit of a wait but they're kept clean and are quite nice nonetheless. The portions are quite large and are great for the price considering how delicious everything is. The banana, strawberry and Nutella crepe is so good and their assortment of fruit is quite nice! Dragon fruit, oranges, cantaloupe, melon.... They don't skimp! I got scrambled eggs for my egg side and they were really tasty. Overall, I really enjoyed dining here. I can completely understand why it can get so busy. (It also calmed down as we were leaving after the brunch rush). I would definitely come back.

The band was amazing and we were told there's a larger room upstairs with a different band. Now for the food: spectacular all around. We ordered poutine with lamb, the chicken and the salmon.
