My girlfriend and I were driving from Quebec City to Maine and realized it was getting very late,…read morewe needed to eat, and our options may be limited to A&W or Tim Horton's, but I did a Yelp search to see if anything came up. This place shows up with only one review and the hours indicated they were open until 3:00AM so we crossed our fingers and headed that way. When you pull up the first impression is that it looks like it could be someone's house, and after stepping in like it may be some kind of sports bar. We were unsure, but the owner quickly greeted us and invited us upstairs and seated us on their back deck. We speak barely any French and his English wasn't perfect, but he was happy for the opportunity to practice his English and couldn't have been friendlier. He went through literally every item on the menu with us and made recommendations. I ordered the Beauve de Bouf and my girlfriend ordered the scallops. Both were $30 CAD, which seemed really reasonable. When the food came out the presentation blew us away and was levels above what we were expecting given that the building is a little rough around the edges. Both tasted as good as they looked. Everything was cooked perfectly. The meat was complimented by the vegetables and were so impressed. The building does look a bit rough but they are working on it. The food, especially at the price, gets 5 stars easily. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for meal quality that could compete in quebec city, but at a significantly lower price. If I'm in this area again I will definitely come back.

The interior of the restaurant is quite posh and over the top, with dramatic frames around the windows of the cold chambers where the steaks are aging. In fact, my favorite part of the meal was the jerky served in the beginning of the meal. It was delicious! We went to La Bête just to buy more of it in the following years. This time, I opted to drop by their butcher shop to buy some special cuts for Father's Day. I was not alone with that idea, as a lineup had formed at their entrance. Most clients were there to pick up a few items from their butcher shop, with the kids eyeing the live lobsters at the entrance with amusement. I went for the Tomahawk AAA, the Porterhouse AAA, the Kansas AAA and to finish in style, the "Cowboy" wagyu. You can probably guess which one cost the most!. Service was very courteous and speedy despite how busy the shop was. My order took a bit longer than that of others, as many had ordered online beforehand and only needed to pick up their reserved bags. I took my precious package home and proceeded to patiently let the cuts warm up before prepping them with salt and pepper. I won't go into details of the cooking, but it was definitely an exciting experience to manage these impressive and different cuts (we aimed for rare to medium rare). The steaks were delicious! The porterhouse was particularly tender, second only to the wagyu, which was distinguished from the other cuts by its rich umami flavour. Despite what the wallet says, it was a great family experience and my dad was very happy indeed!

And take a look at the meat platter I shared with my friends!!!!! My buddy had a chou à la crème stuffed with a profiterole for dessert, and the thing was as big as my head! Congrats, la Bête! You get a 5 star rating for this fantastic meal.

I've been lucky enough to come twice now while on vacation to jjacques and both times were exceptional, I also funnily enough sat at the exact same table both times. The service and staff and excellent - they give great recommendations, are funny and just make you feel taken care of. Shout-out to Nathan our waiter who spoke in EN for half the table and FR for the other half haha. He was so fun! The first time I came here was with my husband and we had a lovely dinner - the salmon blinis were our fave so I knew when I was here the second time, they were a must! The second time, there were six of us so we ordered quite a bit - we had the salmon blinis with caviar, a few oysters, the cod fritters, the prawn cocktail, the mushroom tortellini, flounder crudo, and whole fried fish - for dessert we did a cheese plate with some delicious local cheese. Everything was delicious - the whole fish is a must - the skin is so crispy and tasty - has a lot of Vietnamese flavours. The cocktails are also fabulous here - I had the Mexican Firing Squad and the Jungle Bird - both delicious and easy to drink! The room itself reminds me of a cool speakeasy bar/resto you'd find in the streets of New York City. It's hidden in an alleyway behind a very unassuming door. It's all part of the magic of the restaurant. If there is one place to go for dinner in QC, go here. We booked a reso in advance and I recommend you do this to secure your spot!

The staff were all very great in explaining everything about the menu. For example, if you want the beef Tomahawk ($145), they told you to order it now since it'll be a 45 minute wait. We started off with 24 oysters ($72) as we love oysters. They had different type of oysters and we enjoyed the east coast oysters. My favorite dishes that we ordered were the seared scallops ($42) and the Butterfish Tataki ($22). We were a bit disappointed in the Crab Rotolo ($36) as we didn't enjoy the combination of the sauce and crab. The scallops were cooked very well and we loved the sauce for the Tataki. The Vitello Tonnato ($22) and Cod Fritters ($15) were decent but not as good in comparison to our favorites. We throughly enjoyed our dinner here as we had a good time trying all the food and mocktails they offered.
