It was Jamie W's and my last dinner after spending (literally) a lovely week in Paris celebrating 20 years together. I thought it might be fun to try the restaurant that was the preface for the romantic climax of 2003's "Something's Gotta Give". Playing an accomplished playwright, Diane Keaton wanted to celebrate her birthday at her favorite restaurant (Photo 2). What was nice was how this place looked and felt sophisticated and cinematic much like it was portrayed in the movie. At the same time, tables were not scrunched together (like at Bofinger, for example) and it didn't feel all that stuffy. What was funny was that the menu cover stated "Diner Menu", which made me immediately think of a greasy spoon although the term 'diner' actually means 'dinner'. My French sucks. However, my confusion was not fully misplaced because shortly after we sat at our table, a small bowl of freshly crisp potato chips arrived along with a ramekin of marinated olives (Photo 21). We started with our cocktail of choice, the 15€ Espresso Martinis, which we agreed were among the best we ever had (Photo 7). That might explain why we soon had a second round. The warm rustic bread arrived next with a typically crunchy crust and a soft middle which we slathered with their fresh butter (Photo 9). This led to the appetizers. Jamie ordered the 21€ Whole Artichoke Heart which sat on a bed of arugula salad and was topped with a mound of Parmesan shavings (Photo 23). I had never seen a heart that big on a plate. Quite refreshing with nice contrasts in texture. I went full Franco and ordered the 25€ Burgundy Large Escargots (Photos 12, 23). There were nine plump ones in my order, and they were thoroughly delicious and not at all too chewy as they were soaked liberally in garlic butter. The snails were too big for the fancy pinchers they provided, but I speared them easily with the cocktail fork. Our entrees were even more masterfully prepared. Jamie had the 31€ Risotto with Crispy Zucchinis and Prawns (Photo 10). The dish was a creamy delight with five succulent prawns accompanied by zucchini and arugula. I went for the 33€ Braised Beef slowly cooked for seven hours and topped with braised carrots and parsley (Photo 8). So tender, much like an amazing pot roast, it could've fallen off the bone if there was a bone. It was accompanied by decadently creamy mashed potatoes and an add-on of buttery 8€ Green Beans (Photo 5). Coupled with the espresso martinis, the meal was not a Weight Watchers special. Discretion be damned, however, as we went for dessert. Wanting to replicate the near-perfect floating island he had at Bofinger, Jamie ordered the 14€ Floating Island (Photo 6). The meringue was not quite as airy, but the creme anglaise was a winner. I wanted a showy end to my meal and ordered the 18€ Baked Alaska, a delightful rendition of the traditional ice cream cake which was stylishly flambed with rum (Photo 3). Dessert engulfed in a blue flame is what I call panache. In fact, the whole evening was quite amazing. FOOD - 5 stars...classic French dishes executed with panache and satisfying flavors COCKTAILS - 5 stars...the espresso martinis were impeccable AMBIANCE - 5 stars...genuinely photogenic with a surprising sense of intimacy amid the packed tables...it's no wonder movies are shot in here (Photos 2, 15, 19, 24) SERVICE - 5 stars...attentive, responsive, and ingratiating TOTAL - 5 stars...if you're looking for the ideal Parisian dining experience, this be it RELATED - Exploring Paris? I visited this restaurant during my trip to Paris as I had seen some individuals recommend it online. We made a dinner reservation here for two people and we were able to be seated right away. The inside of the restaurant is very well-decorated, and I can definitely see this place as being good for hosting special events. For the food, we decided to get escargot, frog legs, and lamb chops. All the food here was cooked well, with lots of flavor to them. The meats were all quite juicy, and the lamb especially was very tender. The service was quite good here too, and it wasn't too hard to get the attention of the waiters. Overall, this was a nice restaurant to check out and I can see why other have recommended it!

This restaurant is iconic, and the food was absolutely amazing! The pictures don't do justice to the ambience! I had the escargot paired with a lovely red wine, and the braised beef, which was fantastic! The service was wonderful and also very attentive. I would go back 1 million times to this restaurant when visiting Paris.

A legendary brasserie. Le Grand Colbert is a historic establishment with high ceilings, gilded chandeliers & crisp white tablecloths. Wonderful garlic herb butter enriched escargot, harmonious rich Foie Gras, and mouthwatering delicious Poulet Roti. Finished our dinner with soft, buttery Crepes Suzette Flambé Au Grand Marnier, the presentation was a memorable experience!

4.5 stars rounded up. Diane Keaton's character in "Something's Gotta Give" brought me here. If you think that's unoriginal, wait til you hear I ordered the same roast chicken she mentions in the movie. Not only did it not disappoint but the half portion of roasted farm chicken (32 €) exceeded my expectations. One of our servers plated it tableside, spooning rich, comforting juices over tender chicken. The nicely-cooked carrots & onions lent additional flavor to the dish, & I couldn't stop eating fries with mustard; so potent, it cleared out my sinuses. I also took bites of my companions' filet mignon (50 €) & risotto with crispy zucchini & prawns (31 €), both as delectable as my own dish. As stuffed as we were from dinner, passing up dessert at a restaurant this good was not an option. Baked Alaska (18 €) was flambéed with rum at the table & the Coupe Mont Blanc (16 €) combined chestnut cream (my new favorite edible discovery) with vanilla ice cream, melty chocolate, & whipped cream. A superb ending to an unforgettable meal, & we so appreciated the professional, but warm service we received. Merci! Perhaps I should write Diane Keaton a thank you note for the romantic, old school Paris recommendation, but I suspect she's too busy to entertain my foolishness.

    Boiled eggs

This place is thoroughly horrible. A supposed "fancy restaurant" that a family of 6 for only €563 ($648), was probably one of the worst places we ate at over an entire trip of 19 days. First, the restaurant looked very nice, but the waiters weren't. They never greeted us, never had a kindly matter towards us, or thanked us when we left. Next, the food here was distasteful. The boiled eggs had a mustard that tasted disgusting and there was way too much of it. Then, the braised beef was just flavourless. Not even salt could have helped. And, I found a thick piece of beef skin in my dish. For the price we paid for this meal, I would expect something better than this joke of a meal.

I saw this restaurant had mixed reviews. We wanted to give it a try and see what was what. It is known for a scene in the movie, "As Good As it Gets." I made our reservation and when we arrived we were met with a friendly smile and we were sat right away. I noticed the beautiful decor and inviting atmosphere. It was my husband's birthday, and I was really counting on an amazing meal for him. When I made the reservation, I let them know it was his birthday. Our waiter was amazing, warm and very kind. He made some great recommendations. We were served complimentary nibbles of delicious potato chips, olives and bread. We ordered and shared the French Onion Soup and it did not disappoint. It was super cheesy and full of flavor. We ordered the Chateaubriand for two. It was absolutely wonderful. We both love steak and it was perfectly seasoned, it was tender and very juicy. The side of béarnaise sauce was creamy and it paired perfectly with the steak. The steak didn't need it as it was delicious without it but we love béarnaise sauce. It came with a side of French fries and green beans. The green beans were fresh, crisp, and beautifully seasoned--lightly sautéed with just enough butter. The French fries were golden, crispy, and irresistibly good. Not greasy, just perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way we like them. To end our amazing dinner experience, we ordered the Baked Alaska flambéed with rum. They brought it out with a birthday sparkler and sang happy birthday in French to my husband. Our whole meal was excellent from beginning to end. This was truly a well-rounded and satisfying experience. We would definitely come back again.

Chestnut Napoleon. Pastry had a bit of burned taste, but the crème was delicious.

Fantastic in every way. Wonderful oysters, tartare, and a chateaubriand to die for! So amazing that we booked another reservation during our short trip.

After trading a bunch of reviews I almost cancelled our lunch reservation and I'm sure glad I didn't. We had none of the problems others mentioned. It is a lovely restaurant and service was friendly and very good. The food was excellent. I had a lovely piece of chicken with a great sauce and done frites. My husband got the salmon and I was very jealous! He wouldn't trade but he gave me a taste and both he and I thought it was excellent. The sauce was great we got the prize fix lunch . First course was eggs mayonnaise with a lot of mayo and so good. They brought little bowls of potato chips snd olives as an amuse bouche which was nice. People of all ages were dining there and everyone seemed happy. And I didn't hear any English (except for our waiter). This is a classic French restaurant so prepare to settle in and enjoy the food and the experience.

I have zero idea how this place is still standing. I mean a lot of people go because it was in some old movie from the early 90s ... but do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs! Their steak made me legit sick. I'm quite positive it was spoiled. The French onion soup was thick and impossible to eat with the giant old stale bread sitting on top and the broth was basically gravy. The chicken they're so famous for was bland. Don't let movies fool you ... this place is a must skip.

A iconic dinner spot in Paris - very beautiful with exceptional service. We ordered the kidney veal by accident -- not the tastiest but that was our fault. Other than that, the selection is great and I'm a huge fan of this restaurant.

We went here recently on our trip to Paris. Located in a very neat area of the city was Le Grand Colbert. I made a reservation ahead of time which would be recommended if you come here. They do a lot Of Classic French cuisine. I ordered the filet with a spice of the peppercorn sauce. The sauce really had a strong taste, but it was very good. All of the sides were excellent. The French onion soup stood out to me as it was extraordinary. Overall being a tourist and watching a few movies that were filmed at this restaurant I had a very memorable experience here. I would definitely recommend to anyone as they offered us a very special dining experience!

Walking up through Montmartre is good exercise in its own right, with the staircases near the top providing a wonderfully direct final approach as the white basilica rises above you. The surrounding neighborhood is beyond charming, and reaching the summit feels like a fitting culmination of exploring one of the city's most distinctive quarters. Once there, the sweeping view across Paris is spectacular, particularly from the broad steps beneath the basilica. The Romano-Byzantine architecture is striking up close, while the enormous gold mosaic inside gives you another reason to step away from the panorama and enter the church. We had intended to go inside the basilica on our recent family visit, but we had a sick child and the line was long and exposed to the sun. There were a ton of people up there, as dense a crowd as we saw all trip, everyone trying to enjoy the same viewpoint. Luckily, there was plenty of that to go around. We spent some time admiring the city and taking pictures (my father-in-law's one souvenir was that we send him a family photo from Sacré-Coeur), then wound our way downhill through charming Montmartre. Maybe next time I'll venture into the church, but it's worth going just to walk around outside.

Getting the tickets was a genuine headache, but the on-the-ground experience was not just magical but surprisingly easy. The online ticketing system leaves much to be desired. I wanted to buy eleven elevator tickets, for eight adults and three children, but was only able to check out with nine. I tried to get the last two in a second transaction but got locked out. Apparently, you can't book that many tickets under a single account, something I wish I'd known before I spent all that money on the nine. I emailed the customer service address and while they responded, they were spectacularly unhelpful. I then tasked my husband, my mother, and my brother with buying the last two tickets from different devices, and I don't understand why, but none of them were able to get through. The site was also annoying in that we had to make all of our selections and input credit card information before getting frozen out without explanation. My parents decided they didn't need to go up the tower anyway, as they'd been pretty recently, and that's how the issue resolved. I guess we could've gotten them tickets day of, but no one had the will for it, so the rest of us just went up while they hung out in the park at the base of the tower. My branch of the family was running late for our 4:00 entry and had a fairly stressful time making that long jaunt from the Trocadero to the tower. There was some security to get into the park, but it went quickly, and once we were in, we found the entrance for ticket holders right away. To my amazement, there was no line, and we were riding a diagonal elevator up the tower about as soon as we arrived. I love the Eiffel Tower and loved visiting with my children, who were awed by both the iconic structure and the marvelous views. It's great to admire from afar, but well worth a dedicated excursion. I look forward to going back whenever I'm back in Paris.

The tower only sparkles when it's dark enough outside to see it. When it's the spring/summer the sun sets very late at night so when I was there, the Eiffel Tower first sparkled at 10pm! We didn't know that, so we arrived around 8pm and waited 2 hours. It then started to rain and we shared one umbrella between 4 people. There are lots of people walking around trying to sell you stuff can be very annoying especially if you came there early and they keep asking you. We'd had grand plans to go see Notre-Dame and the Louvre and spend time at the Tuileries, but we threw that all out and settled on one easy outing: a quick trip on the Metro to see the Palais-Royal. The Palais-Royal isn't a royal palace in the same way as, say, Versailles. It's much smaller, built for Cardinal Richelieu in the 1630s, and you can't go in and gawk at all the bedrooms, as the buildings are currently in use by the French government. Instead, you can hang out in the courtyard, which serves as a park. (There are some shops and restaurants and I'm sure you can go in the buildings, but the courtyard seems to be the most salient public-facing part.) The Palais is in the middle of Paris, right next to the Louvre. We took Line 1 for one stop to get there, and that ended up being a highlight of the trip for our two boys (the 1 is fully electric, so it has no driver and you can look right out the front while you ride). Just a tip for any other parents trying to entertain young children. I was hoping our kids would run around the courtyard, but our poor ailing son didn't have the energy. It was still a great place to visit. The courtyard was striking, the 17th-century architecture enhanced by one of the coolest public artworks I've ever seen. This was a Daniel Buren installation consisting of dozens of column of varying heights, painted in black and white stripes, a modern sculptural project sponsored by the Ministry of Culture (housed at the Palais-Royal) in the 1980s. I am sure this is famous on Instagram, as it's very distinct and photogenic, as well as interactive. My three-year-old ran around playing among the columns, which also served as seats for the rest of us. There was a cool pair of fountains on another side of the courtyard, by sculptor Pol Bury, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture at the same time as the columns. I didn't know about Palais-Royal before this trip to Paris, and I would've checked it out years ago if I had. It's an easy stop if you're going to the Louvre, and well worth seeing all on its own.

It's stunning, though you'll soon realize that the part you most wanted to see - the glass enclosed space - might not be open to you. Visiting in May, the glass-domed space was locked tight, opened only for special shows and events. I've looked at the calendar now, in June, and see that they open it for many summer activities and were I there now I'd certainly try to get tickets for one of those events. Otherwise? This is still a worthy investment of time, not just to look around and peer into the glass-domed space, but to view the exhibits (individually priced, tickets available at the door). I noticed 3 special exhibits during my visit and paid for entry to 2 (Matisse and Nan Golden). Based on this experience, I'd recommend paying for entry to the exhibits of artists you're least familiar with under the assumption that they'll be less crowded. The Matissse exhibit was crowded enough to render the experience almost unpleasant. The Nan Golden show? Perfect. Though I'd recommend paying to see some exhibits, even if all you do is enter to walk around and explore the space you'll be nicely rewarded. The Grand Palais has some pleasant, quiet seating areas inside and the space is lovely.

Such a massive event with hundreds of guest and press. Chanel were the ultimate host arranging different special events throughout Paris and hosting several meals and providing chauffeured driver services for us. All culminating to the main event. We unfortunately had 105 degree weather in Paris and literally this tour was a "cool" experience for the history and the temperature - literally. Also the little gift shop after is a must - I smile every morning using my spoon and have a pair of gloves that I will be wearing as well. This and Jim Morrison's Grave was my two favorite things.

The catacombs are part of Paris' abandoned mine and quarry network, and bones were moved to the catacombs because the cemeteries were running out of space. The first bones were transferred from the Cimetière des Saints-Innocents after the cemetery was closed in 1780 due to overuse. The catacombs are an extremely popular attraction, and purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended as a limited number of people are admitted each hour, and with good reason -- the experience would be extremely unpleasant if overly crowded. However, you can only purchase tickets one week in advance, and the catacombs are not open on Mondays. The two full days we were in Paris were Sunday and Monday, so I had to ensure that we were able to get tickets for Sunday April 7. Fortunately I was successful! Tickets were €29 each, although per the website, they are now €31. Unfortunately, the catacombs are not accessible for people in wheelchairs or who have mobility issues -- the 1.5km long route has 243 stairs -- 131 to descend and 112 to ascend. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and if you want to see bones and skulls (no full skeletons, though), the Paris catacombs won't disappoint!
