It was my first afternoon here and all I had was 5 British pounds, I thought it was euros and I asked for the strawberry&chocolate one. Later on when the waffle was ready, I realized that I had no cash to pay for it. I was so embarrassed and I felt so sorry. Next minute, a lady who stood behind me paid for my bill instead and we enjoyed a little conversation. I was sorry that I did not quite get her English and I was so touched that I totally forgot to ask her name! And she would not willing to take my pounds. Again, I was truly lucky and grateful! This place is going to haunt me forever. They have freshly made plain liege wafels for €1. I had 2 a day, every day while in Brussels (but for some reason wondered why I couldn't fit in my normal pants when I returned....) It's the perfect walking snack or totally unnecessary post-dinner second dessert. Every wafel I received was hot, sticky sweet and heavenly. Did I mention it's only €1??? Le Funambule is a popular waffle seller right next to the very touristy Manneken Pis. The waffles here are a fair price compared to other locales, but the quality is just so-so. Some of ours were a bit too tough or dense (they might've been overcooked). Plus, for €6,50 for the fanciest versions (with many toppings), I'd have a higher quality expectation. Trying a Belgian waffle in Brussels is probably an important tourist activity, but I personally have no need to return for more. read more

Lots of waffle topping options. All reasonably priced. I went with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Very good! The only problem is there was so much whipped cream it was incredibly messy to eat and the little fork they give you is practically useless. Yeah, definitely a first world problem, I know. So, I got a bit messy - it was worth it. I mean, when you're in Belgium you need to eat certain things: waffles, frites, chocolate, and beer. I had to get a waffle in Belgium. Yelp recommended Le Funambule. Yelp didn't disappoint. However, was I wowed by exceptional service and mind-blowing waffles? Well... no, but I certainly enjoyed my waffle that was covered and smothered with assorted toppings. I guess I didn't know what to expect but at least it was a sweet treat that I could enjoy while watching everyone take selfies with the Manneken Pis statue. But wait there is a catch its also in the cheapest waffle category in Belgium. Priced at 1 Euro there is no reason to have any other. My personal favorite is the nature, with nothing on it, but the sweet sweet belgiumness baked right in. This stuff makes American waffles look like cardboard. I can't even begin to comprehend how a waffle can taste so good. Crispy, caramelized sugar on the outside, and fluffy, gooey dough on the inside. It's a small place with no where to sit, but the waffles are absolutely amazing! It's right beside Manneken Pis and has an awesome statue right outside. There are over 20 different types of waffles you can get with various chocolate and fruit toppings. My only beef is that the forks they give you are small and flimsy and it makes it hard to eat a loaded up waffle. read more

When in Brussels, you have to have waffles. Perhaps it was because we went in the late evening, but our waffle was pretty cold, stale and tasted burnt. The sign says waffles for 1euro but its for a plain waffle. Expect to spend 3-5 euros for a waffle. read more

There are at least 3 other places like it on the same road. This one is slightly bigger, though none of them really offer any seating. This one is nice because its right next to the Manneken Pis. I had a #22 - waffle, cream, syrup, butter. Dear God, diabetes in an instant, but so good. What made our experience here rather hilarious is that they seem to only employ 'attractive' 14 year old girls to work here. I got the gaufre waffle with belgian chocolate over it. At first I told the lady nutella but changed my mind last min right when she was about to give it to me. She was annoyed at first but she switched it anyways and didn't even charge me extra! One thing I don't get is why they give you a fork. Honestly can't really eat it with just a fork. Even after reading all of the great yelp reviews, I was a little dubious about the possibility of one waffle shop being any better than the others - but it's true! I did a side by side taste test, with one Liege waffle from Le Funambule compared to another waffle shop just down the street, and the one from Le Funambule was much better. The outside was ever so slightly crisp, with a chewy and dense interior, and the pearl sugar was nicely caramelized. The competitor's waffle was more expensive (€2 instead of €1 here), and on top of that, it wasn't cooked enough, so it was a bit soggy and pearl sugars weren't even melted - it just had chunks of grainy sugar inside! I definitely recommend going with the plain Liege waffle so that you can enjoy the taste of the waffle itself, since the thick Liege dough and caramelized pearl sugar is unique to Belgium. read more

The best, bar none. I experienced three different versions of the famous Liege Waffle and the one at Le Funambule was by far the best. The plain version is just 1 Euro and is definitely the best kind. Delicious, slightly crispy, sweet and most importantly, consistent. Each time I visited it tasted the same and on each occasion the lady serving was very friendly. It's worth the wait to get the best, and a visit to Brussels is definitely no completely without a Liege Waffle from Le Funambule. This waffle shop is one of several on its street peddling 1 Euro waffles to a queue of tourists of every nation. Dandoy's waffle is 4.50 and there's a reason why.
