I don't believe I've ever had a Belgian waffle-- so while I was in Brussels, it was a must to try. I saw several places in the area selling it but the ratings here were high and I ventured here. The line was very long-- which moved very quickly. With the suggestion from the employee, I went with the Liege waffle because I was not going to eat right away and I feared it would become soggy. I ate the waffle a couple hours later and it was excellent. I also had a Latte, which was just okay. However, I was here for the waffle and it definitely did not disappoint!
I loved this place! It's right in the heart of the city with great views of the Grand Place. We ordered waffles and coffee, and everything was excellent, I still think about those waffles sometimes lol, they were that good. The self-service setup was quick and efficient, and our order was ready in no time. Overall, definitely a must-visit if you're in Brussels.
We visiting on a Tuesday in the late afternoon. We waited about 10 minutes to be able to sit upstairs. If it wasn't for the rain we would have ordered to go or eat in their outdoor seating area. If you dine in, the menu prices increases a bit. Bathroom is located in the basement and doesn't look like a purchase is necessary. We ordered a liege waffle with a scoop of speculoos ice cream at 5:06pm and it came to our table at 5:14pm. The outer edges of the waffle was crispy while the rest of it was soft and chewy. Powdered sugar was placed under the waffle as opposed to it being dusted. With the speculoos ice cream it was a bit too sweet for us. Best to be enjoyed with tea or coffee. Total was 8.50 euro and they accept credit cards. Supposedly there's WiFi but when asked for the password the staff didn't know it.
This is the best waffle place. Be prepared for a line that moves quick and then join the others eating their waffle standing up as there is little seating around. It's worth it. We got the Belgian waffle-light and crispy-with cooked strawberries and whipped cream and hazelnuts. It would have been perfect if the waffle was warm. It was still delicious. We went back again at night and they sold out!

They have a huge menu of waffles to choose from - it was really hard to make a decision. We sat upstairs for a while waiting for service and no one ever came over, so we ended up ordering ours to go and ate it outside. I think they would improve on the customer service, but the food really makes up for it. We definitely recommend checking it out - and order something fun!
I thought I didn't like Belgium waffles, but after going to Maison Dandoy two days in a row, it turns out that I just don't like American Belgium waffles. The Belgium waffles at Maison Dandoy are super light and airy - not at all like the thick bready waffles that I'm used to getting at home. The waffles are made to order and the strawberry with ice cream topping is the fantastic.
Maison Dandoy is an established Belgian Waffle shop that has been making it for over 100 years as the mecca for desserts in Brussels. Maybe it's me. Perhaps I expected more from this dessert shop; unfortunately, I was NOT overly impressed. Also, we were limited on items we could order - either they ran out of the material or were unavailable. What we ordered: (2) LIEGE WAFFLES with POWDERED SUGAR and BROWN SUGAR - I don't recall Belgian Waffles being so sweet and overly baked. Luckily, it wasn't all for me, so I didn't have to finish it or feel like it would be a waste. Seats were minimal, and the only table available for us was the one without any chairs. The trash bin was filled to the brim, so we looked elsewhere to throw our trash.
Good Waffles and accommodating crew! Coffee is amazing. This place is a must try when you're in Brussels.
Hubby and I visited on our honeymoon and ALMOST got divorced (hehe I joke) fighting over the last few bites. Give yourself time to sit back, relax, people watch and enjoy the most delicious waffle you've ever eaten. The hot chocolate was the richest, thickest, yummiest hot coco I've ever had. I'm not to leave leftover desserts but neither of us could finish our coco. Maybe 1 to share next time

And this is a big BUT, it's important to know a could things before going and about how and what to order. First off, there's two types of waffles in Belgium, the Brussels waffle, and a Liège waffle. They're very different. So before we go any further, here's some things you need to know about ordering a waffle. * If your in the area you'll have noticed the numerous other waffle shops. Are they bad ? No. Are they as well known? No. They're cheaper, sure. You'll see signs for 1€ waffles all around, but the dough is all industrial premade and shipped in. I wouldn't say much care has gone into them. They can often be inconsistent. * Want all the toppings? Order them on a Brussels waffle. They're light, crunchy, fluffy and what most tourists think of as Belgian waffles. * The Liège waffles should be eaten as they are. They're more sugary, not rectangular, and gooey. * Is it worth the long wait in line? In my opinion, for a Brussels waffle? Yes. And there you have it, if your looking for the best Brussels waffle in Brussels. This is the place. They're constant. The toppings are nice. They look gorgeous. For me, I usually just get mine with powdered surger, comes standard, but you can't go wrong if you're gonna load up with strawberries and chocolate sauce. In my opinion tho, there a better spot of Liège waffles.
Not a good experience here. I showed up a few minutes early and lined up at the door so I can get a fresh waffle. I open the door exactly at 9:30 am and was told that it would be a few more minutes. Five minutes later the doors opened and I was excited to order a waffle. What do I see? A mound of pre-made waffles...that was why they opened late to sell pre-made waffles. I went to order my three topping Belgian waffle and there was no whipped cream. Not a perfect start to the day. Anyway, I paid 8 euros for a pre-made waffle with no whipped cream. I went to grab napkins, plastic fork and a plastic knife and tried to head upstairs to the Tea Room and got yelled at to "Take and Go." I asked for a counter space and again was yelled at to "Take and Go." I went outside and felt like an asshole with no place to eat my waffle. Clearly this was a knife and fork job with the waffle toppings (pie cherries, strawberry ice cream and caramel sauce). I did the best I could eating on a street corner. The food was OK, price was high and the service was terrible. Fuck this place. One star.
We were on the hunt for Belgian hot chocolate in the neighborhood near the Manneken Pis statue. We walked in one of the (many) chocolatiers on the block, and we were recommended to go down the street to Maison Dandoy for the best hot chocolate in Belgium. Impressed with such a resounding review, we walked about two minutes down the block and found this shop. We were there at about 10am, so there were not a lot of crowds yet. We walked straight in and only had to wait behind one other customer. I wish I could tell you that I bought a waffle, because they looked awesome. But we stuck to our hot chocolate mission. The hot chocolate came with a little gingerbread cookie that was very tasty, but the hot chocolate itself was fantastic. Definitely one of, if not the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Highly recommend!
I passed by this waffle/stroopwaffel cafe and decided to try it out based on the amount of people that were in line. I waited about 15 minutes until I got to order, which was a regular waffle with powdered sugar and vanilla ice cream. Inside the shop looked very aesthetically pleasing and they had a tea room upstairs. For 7 euros, this waffle was just as amazing as I was expecting. The waffle was crispy on the outside and chewy on the outside. The waffle had an incredibly rich dairy taste. The hotness of the freshly made waffle combined with the chill and sweetness from the vanilla ice cream made it absolutely delicious. Best of all, this was a giant waffle compared to other places in the area Overall, this was one of the best waffles I've ever eaten. There are a few waffle joints nearby that are a bit cheaper, but this one tops them with its taste and size. If I am ever back in the area, I will be back for more
There was a long line and a long wait, which wasn't surprising since this place is so popular. They have an outdoor seating area if you don't mind eating outside, although the upstairs indoor seating was closed during our visit. We ordered the Classic Brussels waffle and the Simply Brussels waffle. After the first bite, it was easy to see why this place is so popular. I've never had a waffle this light, crispy, and airy before. I loved the Classic, topped with rich chocolate sauce and a scoop of ice cream. My friend went with the Simply, topped with cinnamon crumbles and a scoop of ice cream. What impressed me the most was the texture. Every bite was the perfect combination of warm waffle, rich chocolate, and cold ice cream. Even until the very last bite, the waffle stayed light and crispy without becoming soggy. That's not something you find very often, and it made the experience even more memorable. Yum! :p read more
First Belgian waffles and Wow. They offer Lieges (thicker/denser) and Brussels (thin/crispy) waffles. I tend to like the lighter crispy style waffle so I really liked the brussels style waffle. I wouldn't recommend putting too many wet toppings on the brussels waffle since it gets soggy pretty quick. Lieges waffle has sugar in the dough so it is a bit sweet and the dough almost tastes like a croissant dough. They made our waffle to order, piping hot and fresh. Pay extra for seating but there's some standing tables outside. read more

We arrived early on a Thursday morning and found ourselves seated right away in a cute corner near the window. There was only 1 girl upstairs working the tables but she was rather quick about checking in on everyone (every seat was taken). My bf and I both ordered a Brussels Waffle he got chocolate sauce and I got hazelnuts. LIFE HACK: get one topping each since they cost extra and share them, they give you more then enough. The waffle was good plain but the toppings definitely added a good kick. The tea we ordered was lackluster, I believe it was Yuzu flavor but nothing special. All in all the only reason I came to Belgium was to try the famous waffles and I gotta say they did not disappoint. read more
Atmosphere: Maison Dandoy had a clean and elegant interior. While they had seating upstairs, we unfortunately were not able to get a spot indoors, so we sat outside. However, the outdoor seating was also nice! Service: As we went early in the day, there was no line, and we were served promptly. Our cashier was patient with us as we decided on what to order. Food: We ordered the Belgian Waffle with Strawberries and Speculoos Ice Cream, the Liege Waffle with Hazelnut and Caramel, an espresso shot, and a Speculoos Macchiato, which consisted of Speculoos ice cream, espresso, hot milk, and whipped cream. The Belgian Waffle was light and crispy, with the strawberries and ice cream adding a sweet note. The Liege Waffle was much sweeter, which paired well with the toppings. The espresso shot was full and was the perfect bitter counterpart to the sweet waffles. Lastly, the Speculoos Macchiato was delicious! It was warm and sweet with Speculoos cookie crumbs mixed into the drink. Overall: We highly recommend Maison Dandoy, especially if you plan on visiting the Grand Place. We appreciated its offerings of both Belgian and Liege waffles, in addition to several toppings, making it a great place to try and compare the two waffle types. Waffles and coffee pair very well together, and the fact that Maison Dandoy has a high level of quality for both makes it a must-try in Brussels! read more
The Belgian waffles were the best waffles I have ever tasted. The line was super duper long and I wish we got more than one but definitely worth it! A must try when you're in Belgium. The service was quick and they were so friendly. We got the sugar waffles with a pistachio scoop of ice cream. So delicious. We weren't able to sit down due to how packed it was but there were a lot of seats if you come on a non busy day. August was super busy due to a festival going on. If I ever get a chance, I will most likely go back and get lots more. read more
Few things in life are simple but good. Belgian waffles are one of those things. Not to be confused with their American cousins the "Eggo waffle". Used yelp to locate this place as they have 3 places in a 2 mile radius. Make sure you come to the one which actually sells waffles as the one location only sells cookies/biscuits. Best waffle ever! In Brussels, you pass so many waffle shops. Don't be fooled. Although they're cheaper they're not good! Just wait in the small line and shell out some money for the waffle at Maison Dandy. I'd recommend getting the Liege waffle plain because it's already very sugary. The Belgium waffle is good if you want ice cream, chocolate, powdered sugar, etc. I only ordered for takeaway. And they usually try to give the hottest waffle first instead of the cold ones that have been sitting on the counter. Definitely worth a visit, I wish I had eaten more while I was here. read more

Waffles so good I had it twice. I did my research on the Belgium waffles before my trip to Brussels and Maison Dandoy seemed to be the best around. As soon as you walked on the street of the shop, you smelled the waffles. I had the "liege" waffle with vanilla ice cream and strawberries. OMG ! It was so good. It was warm and crispy and the ice cream melted on top made it even better. My second time going, I had the liege waffle again but with pistachio ice cream. Just as good. It is on the pricey side of things but if your on vacation, I say this is one thing to splurge on. And it's a 15 second walk from the Grand Place so its just a MUST you visit. read more

I don't know if this branch was the poor cousin of the other Maison Danboys out there. But the inside needs a bit of TLC. Many light bulbs are blown out, the paint needs a touch up and the furniture is straight from the 50s. I was worried that the chair I was sat upon could handle my 100% American fat ass. But it did... The waffles are the best in town so you can look past the interior imperfections. The milkshake I had was good too. Obviously Belgian style sans ice cream but good none the less. Being close to the Grande Place guarantees a crowd, the good waffles also guarantee that those who live here will keep coming back. read more

Service: Speedy, speaks English, & takes credit cards Food: Can eat my weight in these waffles Ambience: Crowded, don't expect to get a counter space to eat in. Overall: Definitely coming back here! Brussels Waffle: Very crisp and fluffy. It was the lightest waffle I've had in Brussel. I would recommend not get anything to liquid heavy unless you like soggy waffles! Liege Waffle: A perfect amount of dough density and it was very sweet. I believe it's good on it's own with no extra toppings other than the basic powdered sugar. But if you have a sweet tooth, go crazy! I'm pretty sure I will dream about these waffles when I leave Belgium!! read more

Delicious food! Ample seating - a good spot for travelers. The waffle was crunchy and perfectly sweet with Nutella and berries. The drink was a strip waffle latte which was pleasant. Food was overpriced compared to other waffle places in the area. Cute cafe - service was slow. read more
Why 5 stars? Because if you have a sweet tooth, this is your playground. --- --- --- A word of caution to start off: if you are seeking a waffle as a breakfast item, do not visit Maison Dandoy. As a matter of fact, the only time to come here is when you've just eaten something hearty and are in the mood for dessert. Otherwise, your blood sugar might actually reach historic levels. Fortunately, we had just eaten lunch before arriving. We were presented with two options: Belgium Waffle or Liege Waffle, so like the professionals that we are, we ordered one of each. We definitely liked the liege more - it was topped with caramel and ice cream, while the Belgium had brown sugar and whipped cream. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but it was a lot like placing a spoon into a bag of sugar and taking multiple swigs. The liege waffle was a much better balance. Definitely glad we came - you can't come to Belgium and not try the waffles! read more

When I asked anyone the best place for an authentic waffle this name Maison Dandoy came up repeatedly. So I stood in line for 40 minutes to try it and it didn't disappoint. The waffle was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The strawberry topping and crunch of the speculoos cookies was perfect. read more

I got the takeaway version a little bit later at night (which I took to Grand Place and sat down in front of the Town Hall like a homeless person... no one else was sitting anywhere near me and I didn't care one bit!) I was slightly disappointed in the waffle but also thought the quality was great for my disappointment. I was disappointed because they don't make the waffles fresh. They have pre-made waffles waiting to be fired up again to be re-crisped. Now I get why they do this. There is always a line (not when I went but I passed by twice earlier in the day and there was quite the line both times) so it's just more efficient and timely to have them pre-made. The waffle was so good that I really want to know what they taste like made super fresh. I got a liege waffle (my fave!!!) which is different because it has pearl sugar inside which makes it sweeter and crunchier. I got it topped with cherries and vanilla ice cream. I thought this might make something that's already sweet much too sweet but the cherries were wonderfully sour and the ice cream was actually quite balanced and savory. I definitely want to come back and give it another try and maybe get these speculoos cookies everyone talks about. read more

To be honest this place is greatly overrated. The lines are long and the waffles are just mediocre. You can get the same quality waffles with less wait at plenty of other places. read more
Visited Maison Dandoy to see if Yelp accurately hyped up their Belgian Waffles. I ordered the Liege Waffles with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. It was fairly late in the evening so many of the toppings were already gone and I did not have a chance to give the fruit toppings a try. Overall the waffles were pretty good. They were fairly soft on the inside but had a crunchy layer outside. The location inside was nicely decorated but did not have areas to sit. Price was definitely higher than surrounding shops which had similar waffles. read more

I'm just here for the cookies...I mean biscuits! This is an adorable shop definitely worth a visit. The line maybe long but don't let that deter you! It's worth the wait. I sampled several goodies but my favorite was the crème brûlée cookie. Everything was delicious! I only wish we had one closer! read more
Came in here from our tour guide's suggestion and we were able to get our waffle fix completed. They serve up the two different styles of waffles so you can choose your fancy! They have plenty of toppings for any craving. They are hot and fresh and really make for a perfect dessert. 100% wild return! read more
