Once we got off the train, we realized it was quite a long walk to the restaurant, but the journey was completely worth it. The stroll through the scenic streets only built up our anticipation. As a true pasta enthusiast, I've tried my fair share of dishes, but this one easily tops the list--it was hands down the best pasta I've ever had. The noodles were incredibly fresh, the flavors rich and balanced, and every bite felt like pure comfort. What made the experience even more memorable was our waitress. She was the kindest woman--warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. Her sweetness and thoughtful service turned an already amazing meal into something unforgettable. The drinks were perfectly refreshing, the ambiance was cozy yet vibrant, and the food... truly to die for. If I lived in Italy I would be here every single week no question!

We opted to sit inside but the outside patio is perfect for a meal. We started with the shrimp with mushrooms and corgette. The shrimp were tasty with a natural sweetness to them. A great start to the meal. Plus the drinks... super tasty and refreshing. Our waitress was more than amazing! She made suggestions that were spot on and explained everything so well. You get to choose your pasta and the sauce. With her recommendation, I got the ravioli with truffle cream. The ravioli was perfectly al dente and the truffle sauce was a great addition. No regrets! My sisters meal was delicious as well. So simple but so good! We were truly stuffed but had to get dessert. This was the best tiramisu I have ever had. Super light and fluffy, you felt like you were eating air. We also got the poached pear. I literally wanted to drink the juice from the melted ice cream and sauce form the pear. We also had an amazing local-ish wine. What a great experience! I can't recommend this place enough.

I had been hoping for the past year to go to Italy as my first international destination, and plans…read morefell through to spend a week in Italy. However, spending two days in Nice with a good friend opened up the possibility to go to the very northwestern edge of Italy and fulfill this dream after all, even if only for about three hours. At this tiny little café off the coast in Ventimiglia, I tasted some of the best pizza I will ever eat, and the best eggplant parmigiana I am likely to ever eat. One always says to judge a pizzeria by its margherita pizza, and while you're in Italy might as well up the ante with mozzarella di bufala instead of regular mozzarella. It took 20-25 minutes to come out but was clearly homemade with care from scratch, and the topping of fresh Mutti tomatoes gives the pizza an uncommonly fresh taste not replicable back in the States. I ate the entire giant pizza without batting an eye, and that was after an absolutely scrumptious portion of eggplant parmigiana for an appetizer which was beautifully melt-in-the-mouth tender, not in the least greasy, gooey or cheesy, and topped with impeccably fresh grilled squid that had just enough char marks to permeate the meat. Spain, Greece, South Korea and Japan will have to work hard to compete with that. The service may seem slow but it is because they are taking their carefully considered time to produce the highest quality food possible, at relatively low prices as well. French is spoken as a matter of course in Ventimiglia so I had no problems ordering, and some English also appears to be spoken. The setting is simply as breathtaking as the food and I would stop here again if I came back to this area of Italy, without any question.

It is away from the tourist trap areas and hidden in a small alley by the local theater. The restaurant is rather small and featuring one family style bench and 3 small tables. The walls are lined up with boxes and crates of Italian wine. The food choices are small, homemade, and very delicious! The price is well under the usual local's fare. Every thing is €10 or under!! Their specialities are the rabbit, broccoli soup, pasta con pancetta and believe it or not -- chicken finger and fries. We ordered the first three mentioned as recommended and we're not disappointed! The rabbit is tender, the side bake potato is very tasty. Prepare to fight and disown your loved one over the broccoli soup and the fried cheese. And finally the pasta, mixed lightly with Parmesan and pancetta bits deserves two thumbs up!! All these with a bottle of mineral water comes out to €25! This is among the best meals we ate in the Riviera and the lowest price!

If he got sick right after the meal, the food poising was unlikely to be related to that restaurant. Unless we are talking salmonella (which would have affected the whole group), food poisoning takes about 24hrs to show its effects. As I said, we have been coming to Menton / Ventimiglia for many years. San Guiseppe is in our opinion one of the best restaurants around. The Spaghetti Frutti di Mare are divine. The only problem we have ever had is that the portions are so generous that after the primi piatti one is so full that we never really get to the main course - which is a shame, because the grilled fish is excellent. Dont know how the Italians do it... The place is child friendly, the view is nice - only parking can be a problem, especially on fridays when the market is in Ventimiglia. During the main season and on weekends lunch time I would recommend making reservations - the restaurant is quite popular. As for the price range: Yes, agreed, it is not cheap. But then again, nothing around the Riviera or Cote d' Azur is. Compared to other restaurants in the area we still think San Guiseppe gives you the best value for money.
