L'Arc de Triomphe was the last landmark Jamie W and I visited in Paris before our flight home. We had a reserved time slot, so we first looked for a quick breakfast nearby. Figuring our pickings for a reasonably priced cafe on the Champs-Elysses would be paltry, we precipitously discovered this stylish hybrid of a cafe and a drugstore (thus the name). Opened in 1958, it had been redesigned to evoke the Mad Men vibe of its original vintage. Seated in the covered sidewalk terrace where we were afforded a nice view of the arch (Photo 2), we immediately ordered a couple of the 8€ Cappuccinos (Photo 9). Piping hot and they hit our respective spots especially accompanied by Valrhona chocolate squares. I had inquired about their signature dessert, the 22€ Le Triomphe, even though it was the middle of the morning. I was intrigued because it was a dessert shaped and carved like the arch. He said they don't make it until the late afternoon. Just as well since I didn't need the extra calories. I decided to order the 9€ Scrambled Eggs (Photo 8) and was pleased to see it came with baguette slices and butter (Photo 10). We weren't finished with the sweet treats though. Jamie went for the 8€ Lemon Pound Cake (Photo 12). For a finishing bite, I ordered the buttery 7€ Madeleines (Photo 17). It was a fun place to hang, and the drugstore was worth a peruse. Great atmosphere and great food! While strolling along Avenue des Champs-Elysees, and looking for somewhere to stop in for drinks whilst on a shopping trip, we came across Le Drugstore. Do not be thrown by the name. It is adjacent to a drugstore but the restaurant is far from its namesake.this Brazilian inspired eatery offers all you could want in the shadow of the Arc de Triomphe's busy neighborhood. The drinks were excellent and the appetizers we had were simple yet delicious. Believe it or not the lobster roll here rivaled anything we've had in New England. I felt Le Drugstore tried to be more upscale and fancy than it truly is and certainly was priced above its value. It is located within a short walk of Arc de Triomphe and down the street from high end shopping like Louis Vuitton, so maybe it is just trying to fit in. They have a solid menu which can cater to various needs. The quality of the food is hit or miss - as an example the tartare was on point but the grilled octopus was overcooked and a bit too chewy. Service was relatively hands off. Prices, as already mentioned, did not quite align with the value provided. They weren't ridiculously over priced, just a bit higher than appropriate imo. Worth a visit? I'll leave that to you to decide. I would probably not go back again, but as a tourist I'd want to check out more places anyway. read more

I made a reservation several weeks in advance after reviewing the menu but was so disappointed after showing up for my 7 pm reservation that the items I wanted to order were not available after 7 pm despite being on the menu. Highlights/Lowlights 1) Nice View of Arc De Triomphe 2) Sensitive with Food Allergies (Gluten)* 3) Chaotic Service I made a reservation at Le Drugstore for a Saturday night at 9pm while visiting Paris. I had read about this place in a travel guide book and thought the menu looked good so made the reservation about a week ahead of time with no issues. This restaurant is located on the very popular (and touristy!) Champs De Elyss. The vibe is cool with ample outdoor, indoor and hybrid (outdoor but covered) seating. The matre d was very friendly, pulled up my reservation and noted my gluten allergy. We were seated immediately at a table that had a great view of the Arc De Triomphe. Unfortunately our service here was chaotic. The restaurant was busy-ish but far from full and our server was incredibly stressed out. We were seated near the computer where he was putting in the orders and could hear him complaining and grumbling at every order he put in. We ordered 2 starters, one entree and one side to share between the two of us and our server acted incredibly annoyed and then quickly slammed another table next to ours (implying we had too much food for our table). The entire experience was very stressful and we felt super uncomfortable the whole time. Our drinks ran out about 1/2 way through the meal and I had to flag the matre d after about 15 minutes for a refill. The matre d was very kind and nice, and was pulling his work load and then some. Food was fine. Not the best but not the worst we had in Paris. Service (beside the matre d who was amazing) was a real doozy here and I don't think we will be back! *Not sure about shared kitchen space for gluten allergies. Food was yummy although quite pricey for what you get, but that makes sense for the area. We shared the club sandwich, and Mille feulle and enjoyed. One has to wander around to see what this store has, which includes a cosmetic section and cigar area, mainly for the men. First off, this restaurant is right on the Champs-Elysées within sight of the Arc d'Triomphe, so it is extremely popular, busy and slammed with tourists. It's also expensive, although comparatively speaking, it's in the same price range as other restaurants along the Champs-Elysées. Still, I'm talking $$$-$$$$ prices here. You have been warned. The restaurant is lovely with an Art Deco feel and a large outdoor seating area as well as a large dining area indoors. It's attached to a Drugstore concept shop, and this is where you enter. Just take the first left after you come in. We were greeted immediately and, because it was the middle of lunchtime and we didn't have a reservation, we were offered a choice of seats either at the counter in front of the kitchen or at a table in the bar area. We chose the bar area so that we could have an actual table. Plus the banquette sofa looked super comfy (and it was!). The menu is uniquely arranged. There's a small bites section, a full lunch section, an afternoon tea section and a "drugstore" section with ice creams and other fountain type items. The ice creams sounded great since it was pretty hot out, so we opted for a couple of items from the small bites menu and went for the sundaes. The sandwiches were plain ham and butter and it was an entire baguette! Huge! The sundaes seemed pricey but when they arrived we realized why... they're enormous! Seriously, they came in enormous bowls that could hold their own as centerpieces on most tables. I chose the fresh berries sundae and it was heaped with flavorful fresh raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, most of which were covered by mounds of fresh whipped cream. The ice creams were strawberry, raspberry and another berry and they were incredible creamy and delicious. The chocolate sundae however, was the clear winner, it was every chocolate thing you can imagine. Brownies on the bottom, layers of ice cream, thick fudgy syrup, heaps of whipped cream and lots of decorative and delicious chocolate pieces. Luckily we were hungry. It was a whole lot of deliciousness. The only downside - sitting in the bar area we didn't get much service past the initial delivery of the food and drinks. Our food came out very quickly, and then we were ignored. We had to flag down waiters for more water (which came quickly) and an extra spoon (which never came). It seemed like there weren't any waiters attached to the bar area and everything fell to the bartender, who was busy making drinks (as he should be). The rest of the dining area seemed to be receiving very attentive service, so I'm not going to detract a star, since we chose to sit in the bar area. Best advice, and this applies to every restaurant in Paris, make a reservation. Then you will have a table waiting in your choice of location within the restaurant and great service. read more

One reason I wanted to visit was I was fascinated by the concept of a cafe within a drugstore and another was because the interior is designed by Tom Dixon, one of my favourite interior designers. Staff was nice and host very kind, but watching the kitchen lick spoons clean, poke meats and suck juice off skewers, then poke meat again without a rinse...
