Mussels

Came back last night for All You Can Eat Mussels and drinks. The service was impeccable, and Uriah's attention to us was extra special. I'll keep coming back because the quality of food and service I receive is beyond excellent.

This past Friday, my friends and I went to Le Deauville for dinner (without any reservations). For one of my friends and I, it was our second time at this place, and the reason we came back again was because we had a great time the first time (like we had thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience here). Both of my friends drove from Louisville. By the time they arrived in Lexington, both were hungry. We ordered several cocktail drinks, appetizers, and entrees. The service was slower this time, and the dinner took us almost 3 hours. The restaurant was not entirely busy, but our server was gone for a long time, and we didn't see her for a while. I used to be in the food industry, and I usually understood what was happening behind the scenes in the kitchen or in the restaurant, but it was not okay when we were left unattended for a good time. (Our drinks were long gone, and we wanted to order more drinks that night). One of my friends almost left the table because it took a long time to get our drinks or food, and he was not having it that night. I got my friend to sit still and wait for our food because leaving was still rude. Besides the slow service, the restaurant's ambiance is intimate and has a romantic setting. I recommend this place for dates and for trying delicious French cuisine with robust and delightful cocktail drink options. I guess, from my first experience and this recent one, we will have to return much later to try this place again. I would still recommend this place to people, have extra patience when you come here as a guest :)

Cake from Martine's Bakery! Delivered to restaurant!

We had dinner Friday night after University of Kentucky graduation. We had 9 people and had a wonderful meal and great service. The duck, New York strip and Salmon were what most ordered!! Each of these meals was fantastic!! The owner also had a cake ordered from Martine's Bakery and it is the best cake in Lexington!(Pistachio with buttercream and Macrons on top!) Our wine choices were delicious and reasonable! Service was top notch. Reservations are a must! Take your time and enjoy a slice of France in Kentucky!

Le Deauville is a restaurant that we frequent on special occasions. There is great communication via text messages, making it extremely easy to make reservations! The atmosphere is busy, romantic, downtown big city feel, hole in the wall! If you're wanting somewhere quiet, it's hard to get that here because it's quite small. What keeps us going back is the food and SUPERB service! If you like duck, they have the best in town! Feel free to order an extra piece with your entree. One serving of the escargot is not enough so be prepared to order two! For an extra delight, that I learned from a French neighbor years ago, dip a piece of your baguette into red wine and enjoy it with your escargot!! Thank me later! One of the cons of this restaurant is the waiting area. It's right inside the doorway and you're likely going to disturb the diners around you. Not because of talking, but you may just have your behind stuck in their back! Another con is the very tiny table right beside the kitchen. There's a lot of traffic here and you can't get much food on the table. Perfect for one diner, but horrible for two. The best compliment I can give is that the staff works very hard to please and there is never a problem with the food!

Cheese Plate

The cheese plate was amazing, loved the oysters and French onion soup! The chicken was good, but wish I would've ordered the pasta special with spicy vodka sauce and Brussels sprouts, the filet mignon was excellent, but the star of the dish was the potato au gratin! I forgot to take a picture of the creme brûlée and the chocolate mousse both were Devine! Our server was attentive and the ambiance was reminiscent of a small French restaurant. Definitely will be a returning customer!

I have dined at Le Deauville a few times primarily because of its proximity to my work hotel but also because the food is consistently good. Something was off tonight, and I hope it's a blip, but I'll be hard pressed to return. I don't mind spending money and tipping well on an occasional "experience." However, this is what I received as my dessert mousse to-go. Maybe a kitchen response to my wait staff comment that my filet was cooked a little over (but still delicious) to my liking? I don't know. But after dropping not a small amount of money on a meal and gratuity, I wasn't happy to open this parcel in my hotel.

Last night was my first time there and I was not disappointed. My waiter made great suggestions for drinks and the meal. The filet was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. We also got the special which was a shrimp pasta. It was so light and flavorful. I felt like I was in a little bistro in France.

Well, when the little boy is welcomed, automatic five stars. No reservation and I asked for the two top outside because of course Fangalicious was with me. The owner did not hesitate, he seated me right away. For me, the best part of dinner was the chilled carrot soup and the mussels. We also had the chicken and a special fish dish for entrees. Both were delicious and creative, but the chilled soup is what I would go back for. It was refreshing. This place is one of my top choices for din din in Lexington. It is just so bistro and very good! If you need a break and a night out, this is your place. Dress up a touch, enjoy a good bottle and I promise you will not be disappointed!

Amazing shrimp cocktail sauce. Unfortunately, it's not a part of happy hour.

Best french food you can find in Kentucky. The happy hour (5-6:30PM) is definitely worth it. Half off appetizers and all drinks. Expect a truly french experience--from the food to the service.

On our way to the dinner.

My husband and I tried to eat there last night. We were super excited to try the food as we are headed to Paris in two weeks and love the cuisine. The owner greeted us at the door but then had a strange look on his face when my husband said table for two. I am not sure what about us offended him as we were dressed nicely. Three young women came in behind us. He ignored us and asked them if they would like a table and sat them. Lots of empty tables. He just left us standing there. About 15 min later while we are still standing at the door, two servers came up and asked us what happened and if he had come back to seat us. When we said no, they apologized and said the owner "was rude". We left without getting to try the food. Still not sure what about our appearance offended him but here's a picture. We were dressed appropriately. We own a building a block from this restaurant and come there quite a bit so very disappointed that we aren't able to eat there. I thought we would be regulars. Definitely don't recommend trying here if you look like us.

As to details...menu varies, which I like. There are always some higher end options (steaks, duck, and such), which are always exceptional, but I truly love the every burger option I've tried...cooked beautifully, seasoned masterfully, cannot go wrong. Drinks are fantastic, and you can get a liquor for any taste (I admittedly gravitate towards bourbon drinks, and there are some damn fine ones here, but the skill of the bartenders compels me to branch out when I'm here). It's not a huge space. Some weeknights, you can get in easily. Weekends, maybe not so much. Reservations are never a bad idea (even if just via OpenTable). Service is too notch. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, attentive...other places could learn from the standard set here. All told, it's by no means a cheap spot to go, but it's well worth a visit...or two or three or more.

Inside you will find a warm and inviting atmosphere with nods to the charming Victorian architecture of Northern KY. My server, Katelynn, was incredibly sweet and attentive, taking time to walk me through the menu and highlight awesome daily specials they have throughout the week. The food...Chef, you are an all-star. The simplest details were nailed. For example, my po'boy had the perfect crispy bread exterior (thanks to Madeline's choosing Blue Dog Bakery bread--smart), but the warm sauce, a mojo rojo, leaked into the airy pollow dough at the center of the baguette and softened it slightly, soaking up all the delicious flavor. The sandwich was a perfect balance of spice from the sausage, tartness from the mayo, and the acidic-bitter contrast of the pickled red cabbage and fennel. I started with the mushroom dip. Again, Chef, it was absolutely wonderful. It had that comforting, creamy texture we all want in a dip but elevated with rich, fragrant mushroom goodness. Perfectly baked with breadcrumbs on top, adding that perfect crunch to dance with the texture of the dip and baguette. Then (I know, this is crazy, but I was genuinely over-excited) I tried the breakfast burrito with bacon. The potatoes had just the write texture, beautifully juxtaposed with the crunch of high-quality bacon--fatty and cripsy--perfectly cooked. The chipotle mayo on top added the a great smokiness and slight heat. Two of my dishes came with simple chopped romaine as a side salad. Looks totally unassuming, but the house-made parmesan dressing was so delicious. And I think this salad perfectly sums up the food here... sounds simple enough, yet wonderfully done. Totally approachable food prepared by someone who clearly knows flavor and has most likely traveled or at least been influenced by global flavors. Are you still reading? I know this is a lot--so go there immediately! But I am going to wrap this up: I also loved my cocktails. Their peach nectar bellini with cava as a wonderful balance of dry and sweet. The tequila, strawberry, jalapeno and cava cocktail was so refreshing with a little bite from the jalapenos. Both entirely my kind of drinks. I love this place and cannot wait to come back. I hope to lose many a sunny day on their patio. Oh, and here are the weekly specials my server mentioned: Tuesday Prix Fixe Wednesday $25 Bottles of Wine Thursday Oyster Night Enjoy!
