There are a few reasons this restaurant gets put in the "Top in the World" restaurants over and over again. When we went over Christmas, it not only lived up to expectations, but exceeded them! First off, if you're against formal restaurants, you're not going to like this place (it being in the Four Seasons hotel is also probably a tip off). Old school means jacket for the mister. However... they're not snobs about it! My boyfriend and I spaced on the time of our reservations. After a day of shopping and general site seeing ending on the Champs-Élysées, we thought our reservation was earlier than it was (thanks a lot iPhone calendar, changing the time on me...). We arrived - he in jeans, a collared button-down shirt, and sneakers; me in Gap pants and a blouse. Not exactly in-line with the feel of the place. Not only could the accommodate us being early, they loaned him a jacket and never made us feel like we were underdressed, uncouth Americans. Though we were definitely in the former category. The service was probably the best I've had in the world. Ever. The food was unsurprisingly outstanding. If I were to have favorites, my boyfriend won the evening when he opted for the venison, but my fish was amazing too. Heavier proteins win here. The desserts were also amazing and like nothing I have ever had before. Again, heavier is better here (chocolate over the dairy dessert I got - but they're all phenomenal). After dessert, our amazing waiter came over with a HUGE chocolate and nougat display and we got one more bite. And they sent us home with 2 boxes of candies. Outstanding! read more

Certainly the best service we've received thus far among some strong competition (surprised? Me too). One of our servers, Ghislain, was particularly impressive. He took a photo of us and returned a few minutes later with it framed on the table. While the service was excellent at L'Epicure at Le Bristol and The Restaurant at Le Meurice, the staff at Le Cinq was more humorous, personal, and charismatic. From the sommelier to the "Boss" (who adroitly served us the leg of lamb for two at the table), each was engaging and added to the experience. Now to the food...excellent, of course. Every dish was delicious with memorable presentation. I highly recommend the strawberry dessert. Rich yet refreshing...tough combo to execute. The food is exceptional, which is why everyone goes there but the ambiance and the service take it a notch above other restaurants that are 3 Michelin stars and are in the same price range. This was an incredible dining experience. First, though, it is very expensive. Secondly, they require/request a coat or "dark suit" for the gentlemen. The room is really nice, very French, and very comfortable. Of course, the service is impeccable and near perfect. We ordered appetizers, entrees, and dessert. In addition to this, they will bring you three to five additional items. They were all tasty, but this makes for a very filling meal. I had a Langoustine appetizer, which was excellent. In the interest of full disclosure, it was approximately $140.00. My entrée was lamb shoulder which had been cooked for seventeen hours. It was perfect. There is also cheese, dessert, then a large assortment of chocolates, macaroons, and candies. The wine list is huge, almost all French, and very expensive. I did have a Chateau Neuf de Pape that was outstanding and reasonable by Le Cinq standards. When you eat at Le Cinq, it is not a meal, it is an experience. One can not sit there the entire time asking 'is it worth it?". You must just enjoy. If you are not into food, or do not appreciate exemplary service; do not go. It is not for everyone. read more

For our honeymoon, my husband and I (who are by no means wealthy) decided to splurge on the 9+ course tasting menu dinner at Le Cinq, and it was the highlight of our trip to Paris. From the moment we entered, the holiday decor was astonishingly lovely and everyone was kind, helpful, efficient, and thoughtful. They even brought extra rose petals to our table for the occasion! The maitre d' was happy to make recommendations, and the sommelier helped me pick a bottle of wine we would enjoy but could even consider affordable (even compared to restaurants in Philadelphia, including the unfavorable exchange rate). He also was not judgmental that my husband doesn't drink and kept his glass of cranberry juice full. Every course was a textural surprise and delight of flavors. Service was exceptional, and they did a great job of explaining what we were eating and even recommending the best ways to approach eating the more uncommon preparations. The seafood course and chocolate dessert were my favorite, while my husband loved the sweetbread course and baking soda flavored ice cream. Even the bread and butter were better than any bread and butter we've ever had. This was a wonderful experience in every way, and I'd recommend it to anyone at any income level. read more

Was very disappointed in service from many perspectives. Food was good, but not always to our liking, but being from America and not super-big fish lovers, there were things that were not our style, but the couple we were with enjoyed it, so I will absolutely believe that the food was excellent. We were completely skipped a wine in the tasting-pairing, and multiple times we were out of wine and water, lacking any visits from the wait staff for 10-15 minutes. The pairings of the red wines with the lobster (yes lobster) and lamb chops were honestly bad. Pairings of the whites that we received were more spot-on. Realistically, I have better service at $10 restaurants back at home. Service was a D, while Food was a A. If you seek good food, go for it. Overrated on Yelp. My husband and I, like to travel the world and taste the very best, always in the search for amazing food and wine. That is how during our recent trip to Paris we decided to dine at "Le Cinq" after reading their reviews on Yelp. We had an excellent dinner but, it wasn't inspiring. We were expecting the creativity and flavors of places like "Le Bernadine" in New York, and it wasn't there. We were in the mood of exploring their menu and order "a la carte": Foie Gras and the Tuna as appetizers, Lobster and Turbot as a second course, and Cochon (Pork), and Dos Chevreuil as the main course. The amount of food on each course was larger than expected and we decided to share the variation of chocolate for dessert. The dining room is elegant but nothing to rave about. The service was professional and friendly and took very good care of us. The food was presented beautifully with first class ingredients, but the extra touch, the flavors that will lift the spirit were absent. I was so excited to try this restaurant and was sadly and utterly disappointed by the 4 course Gourmet Lunch my boyfriend and I had earlier this week. In fact, so much so that I wish I could take back the entire experience, except the ambiance (The Four Seasons in Paris is of course gorgeous). First, my boyfriend nearly chipped his tooth on a piece of olive bread when he bit into an olive pit (no warning from the waiter but the other olives were pitted so it was unclear whether this pit was just missed)-- we really should have complained but the meal hadn't even begun and I think we let our anticipation for the actual food get the better of us. Second, although service was generally very good and what you'd expect, our waiter forgot about our final course and after an awkward period of waiting, we had to ask for it. (honestly this wouldn't bother me if it hadn't been for the olive pit and my general disappointment with the food) Third, the food seemed more focused on technique than taste. To be clear, the technique was indisputably impressive. The problem was that, at least in my humble opinion, the food simply did not taste good at all. There was not even one course of the four that my boyfriend and I enjoyed-- I did not finish a single plate. For example, the first course-- a bed of eel with 2 preparations of beet-- was just off for me and set a negative tone for the rest of the meal. The following 2 courses were slightly better (and at least looked more appetizing) but were still very disappointing. However, by far the worst aspect of the experience is that I began to feel nauseated within 30 minutes of leaving the restaurant and became very sick by the time I reached my hotel-- I was so sick that I couldn't eat the next day and I was only in Paris for 5 days after planning this trip for months! I have read so many wonderful reviews of Le Cinq that I almost can't believe how bad my experience was. The fact that this is a Michelin restaurant, and a nearly $200/person lunch, makes it all the more disappointing. I hope others have a better experience than I did-- it quite frankly was a major damper on my trip. read more

Le Cinq was one of the best meals I had during my most recent trip to Paris. First of all the room is breathtaking; vintage classic french room with big flowers, columns, more flowers, majestic space like a castle. The room is perfect for a romantic dinner. The kitchen is helmed by Chef Le Squer who was given the proposition to regain three star status. I think he has done a remarkable job and Le Cinq should regain Michelin three star status immediately! The service was superb: tablecloths perfectly ironed, water filled immediately, courses brought out in perfect style and timing. It was more of a spectacle. The food progression was amazing; I had the tasting menu about 9 courses with snacks in between. The food was artistically presented and the taste was superb. My favorite dish was the sweet breads which were cooked perfectly. Don't forget the dessert cart; they had a hippo that was carved out of chocolate!! We got a box of nice sweet goodies as a take home gift. My mother received a rose and also a "diamond table gourmand book" with Chef Le Squer's signature. When we were leaving the restaurant, four servers stood there and shook our hands in succession. What a grand experience! I loved it here; definitely fits into my top 5 meals of all time! read more

This place was a great ending dinner for Paris. The ambience was spectacular, the service superb. The dinner in and of itself was excellent. We started with a muz Bouche that was very earthy and lip smacking good. We then moved forward to the starter, which had all excellent choices. I had the langoustine with vegetables in the shape of pasta with a seafood broth that was great, my wife had the trio of seafood, with the scallop tar tar with a topping of caviar that was superb. However the best starter was the white truffle pasta and was a show stopper. Between that and the scallops and caviar I have a hard choice saying which was better. For dinner one of our friends got the turbot, the other the lamb. The turbot was good, the lamb had a herbaceous ness that replaced the natural earthiness of lamb. My wife and I split the chicken and lobster dinner. The lobster was melt in your mouth, and the sauce on the chicken was excellent. We then had dessert, after a selection of petit fours. I had the ice cream which was very good, my wife had the chocolate cake with ice cream. Then the candy cart came by. My wife insisted on trying them all. A fabulous dining experience. It was not cheap, and we tipped an extra 100 euros, but some things in life must be experienced to be appreciated. read more

Beware, the portions are larger than you think, and if you take the Prix Fix you'll be eating for about 3 hours. Great food, Great ambiance, Great service. I dined at Le Cinq for my birthday in March and I must say that words cannot describe how wonderful my experience was at this restaurant. You must, must, visit if you are ever in Paris. The superb service from the moment you enter the hotel, and I have stayed and/or dined at several 5+ star hotels even the Four Seasons in the USA is not as top notch as this. They take customer service to a totally different level which is so fantastic. The ambience, the decor, the food, just everything about this place was AMAZING!!!
