Always love this restaurant. Very cozy, everyone is very friendly, they will try to accommodate any request. Food is always beautiful and delicious, the sauces and dressings are perfect and add that extra touch to make the food stand out. So hard not to finish my entire plate.

Very tasty! Better than that other famous overhyped french spot in DC in my opinion...

First off--cutest branding, sign and exterior decor (crazy cat lady here). Le Chat Noir and I have a special relationship. I come here when I need to study--I attend Capital Wine School courses around the corner. Le Chat Noir is quiet, quaint and quirky. The staff is quick, kind and always gives me the rundown on what's new and recommended. My absolute favorites are the escargots (pairs well with Champagne), Moules Mariniere (pairs well with a Chardonnay), and their cheese selection (grab a full bodied red and indulge)!

Watch out on their half price wine nights. The conveniently forgot twice to give the discount. And the food is too salty.

The food was okay and the atmosphere was not bad. But the service was horrible. The waiter/bartender was very unfriendly. A shame.

I ordered the Nicoise salad, which came with canned tuna. Sorry; since I have been to restaurants that serve it with grilled fresh tuna over the salad, I can no longer be happy with this. The other components (egg, potato, green beans) were simply boiled, no dressing except for the spinach. It wasn't bad, but it was also something I could easily have put together at home. Nothin' special. The others had the lobster benedict. While they were happy with the quantity of lobster, I did not hear any oohs or aahs about the taste. Service was either paced for a leisurely lunch, or too slow, depending on how you like to dine. If this is your neighborhood restaurant, it is a fine place to dine in good weather. I wouldn't cross town for it. Perhaps the lack of effort is because the focus is on the bakery downstairs, but the bistro upstairs falls just short of that je ne sais quoi that you want from a restaurant experience. Come on, Pralines, just a little more finesse!

I went with the breakfast crepe, which was good, but honestly couldn't compete with that pita. Renee even makes her own verde hot sauce, which was a really nice touch! For something sweet, we tried the Boston cream crepe and the peach cottage crepe. Both were delicious, but the Boston cream crepe was easily my favorite. If you haven't been to Renee's yet, you're seriously missing out--it makes brunch feel fun and special!

She made sure to let me know there were specials written on the wall in chalk. I ordered the Hawaiian pizza crepe, but instead of ham and bacon, how it's originally made, I had just pepperoni. I would have added onion, but I thought a $1 upcharge for onion was far too much, so i didn't add it on principle alone. The crepe came out pretty quickly! It was very good, my only "gripe" is that the cheese and pepperoni didn't get a lil burn to it, like a pizza would have. I love burnt cheese and a lil char on my pepperoni! My sweet crepe, I got apples, sweetened condensed milk, walnuts and whipped cream. This was also very good! Not too sweet, just sweet enough! The apples retain their heat a bit, though, and i burnt me mouth, but that's my own fault. I will definitely be coming back, probably alone again, as it's a rather tiny establishment. This is definitely a hidden gem in fxb!

The menu leans traditional, with a variety of options that highlight classic French flavors. That said, it's a bit on the pricier side for the overall experience. I'd recommend Fontaine more for a specific occasion, like taking visiting parents, or if you're dining with someone who needs gluten-free options, as they have good choices. Overall, a quaint and inviting spot that brings a touch of France to Old Town.

To quote the great Tyra Banks: "I want to give you a zero, but that's not possible. So I give you a…read more1." Let's just say the food here was absolutely disappointing. All of the hip young girls in high school recommended this place to me and my friends and lets just say, they have never been more wrong. My girls and I went this weekend for a birthday brunch. I wanted a crepe, but when I saw it was 17 DOLLARS to slap some Nutella and strawberries on a piece of crepe is outrageous. I ordered a "Continental Breakfast," which, with tax and tip, cost me $30 DOLLARS. I wish you could have seen the look on my face when they gave me a plate of rabbit food. All 6 of us looked at the plate and laughed. Seriously, my 5 year old neice can eat 3 times as much of that in one sitting. So, in what world would that be enough food for a grown woman? My friend then went on to order the French toast for a grand total of $36 DOLLARS. Mind you, there was only one piece of toast, and the Inside was raw and soggy. Tasted like eating wet, soaked toilet paper. On top of the overpriced food and small portions, our "server" came to our table for a total of ONE SINGULAR TIME. My friend had also ordered a Chai Latte. Surprise, Surprise! It never came, and they still charged her for it. I think the nice man who brought us our food could see the look on our faces when we received our food, because he then brought us a free side of French fries. It is a huge problem when the french fries were the only sufficient thing I put in my mouth at this restaurant. I please, genuinely beg all of you to NOT waste your money. I promise there is anywhere else where you can get a crepe for double the size and half the cost. Once we left, we went down to Call Your Mother, the Jewish Deli, to get more food, as all of us left with our tummies still rumbling. Mind you, a full bagel sandwich and coffee cost HALF THE PRICE of one meal at Fontaine. Horrible. Mind you, it is 2 days later, and I am still thinking about this. I fully created a Yelp account just so I could leave a review. I think I would have a better experience eating an IHOP Continental breakfast than whatever I put in my mouth at this restaurant. Not worth the hype at all. Save your hard-earned cash and be a big baller elsewhere!
