If I were ever to have ONE day in Berlin, I would spend the entire day in KaDeWe. I'll save the department store as a whole for its own review, though, and instead concentrate on the Buffet at Wintergarten Cafe, located at the topmost floor of KaDeWe. Yes, there are dozens of choices and all of them delicious, but the real gem is the traditional schnitzel. Pounded paper thin and fried to a perfect golden brown, the meat is tender and hardly needs any knife work. Do not forget the warm cabbage, fried potatoes, and sauerkraut! WOW! The assortment of food here is spectacular! Located at the top of KaDeWe this buffet has everything from king lobsters, cakes, fresh juices, pretzels, gelato! It's a pretty expensive buffet. If you find yourself super hungry in Berlin and you're shopping in Kadawe, the top floor holds the secret of good food in the area. This is probably one of the more extensive buffets I've seen in Germany. I didn't get a chance to take fotos because it was pretty crowded with lots of hungry people. Le Buffet is on the 7th floor of KaDeWe, the 2nd largest department store in Europe, Harrods being the first. It's not an AYCE but more by entree by price per plate or weight. It is impressive, lots of self serve beer/wine options. Beer and wine available in a plethora or options. Watch the Achatz, you can drink up to oblivion and you'd be smilin; all day. It is an amazing spread because you get world cuisine in one place. The cuisine however is not the best you will have ever had but the German fare: sausages, roast potatoes, red cabbage, braised meats are genius with German beer.. The desserts are superior too, everything is top notch. This is a self serve option and so you don't tip, It's a true buffet in that you can go back and serve yourself but you have to pay each time. Then look out the glass windows and you see all of Berlin, really beautiful and classic city. The best time time come here? in the middle of Spring, a cold cold day in January or after a rain in the morning when it's crisp out and the resto has just opened. Wow this place is so cool. They have pretty much everything you could want here. The variety is amazing and the quality is pretty good as well. We tried the schnitzel, a bunch of different salads, and an apple cake. The apple cake was soooo good. Nice crumbly layer on top, delicious crust, and the sweetness of the cake was just right. read more

Located in the 7th floor is the home of Le buffet, a beautifully designed and set buffet that charges you by weight or by set plate if you order on the menu for items like curry burger or schnitzel. Came here and tried the 2.99 per 100 grams salad and food bar as well as the seafood and lobster bar for 12.99 per 100 grams and had their tuna salad, cheese and tuna tortellini, ceviche, shrimp salad, veggies, marinated mackerel and so much more! Honestly really good flavors, tastes, and seasoning for all and the ingredients were indeed fresh. It was also super refreshing to see food that was so colorfully prepared that wasn't just sausage or smothered in curry (still like it though don't worry!) My favorite was the cheese and tuna tortellini which wasn't smothered in sauce so the pasta spoke for itself in flavor and taste. Other favorite was a type of sashimi (couldn't really see what it was) but it was seasoned with a slightly sweet aftertaste which was a pleasant surprise! The buffet also comes a comprehensive wine, fresh juice, and champagne bar that you serve yourself and the view is AMAZING. Nice selection of salads and small dishes which are priced by weight. There are also stalls for seafood, German food, Steaks, and Asian food. A bit too pricey, but it's KaDeWe after all. I however think the Feinschmeker Etage just one floor under the Buffer offers a better selection and variety if you're looking for a good meal. read more

So this at the top KaDeWe the famous high end Berlin version of Harrods. Wow it had the grand feel the moment the doorman opened the door for you. Like an old film based in New York when you walk into an impressive department store and all the Staff are busy like little ants working in perfect synchronisation. So rather than take the lift I went up all 7 floors via the escalator observing and absorbing all the wonders of each floor from perfume to designer clothes to stunning jewellery. Finally I got to penthouse floor and to be honest when i saw the it was Called the Buffet I thought Jesus I should have got the lift. I couldn't have been more wrong. Although true to its word it was a buffet but the food served by chefs was amazing and was like a little whirlwind tour of many countries. I could have eaten my way and completed a global food critique and review but I had just stuffed myself so wasn't hungry. Well except for champagne. So off i trot to the bar for a flaw of pink champers. Again served to perfection. Exceedingly fresh. Hints of strawberries. Not too gassy and slid down my throat. And yes a little expensive but so worth it as i sat with an amazing birds eye view of Berlin. If you go you must visit the department store and have a glass of whatever is your tipple read more

Very expensive restaurant. The meal doesn't worth its price. The price of the meal is according to the weight of the food, but the plate's weight is included in the total weight, what makes the meal weight be heavier in about 200~300 gr, which is about 6~9€. read more

Last went there over 12 years ago and it was excellent, best Eis Kaffee that I had ever had and friendly service. Went again recently and it was awful. Firstly we were totally ignored by the waiter even though he had acknowledged us and were eventually served by someone else. As it was a hot day a beer would have gone down well except the barrel was empty and it would probably take 30 minutes (???) to change so I ordered an Eis Kaffee and my wife a normal coffee. The Eis Kaffee was pretty awful with warm cream and the ice cream didn't seem to exist although I did eventually find it as the majority had melted and had no flavour and what I could taste was sour. My wife's coffee was cold and she managed to get the attention of a waiter and pointed this out and another was procured. We could actually see the finished product sitting near the bar but it took sometime before they bought it over and this was also cold, probably colder than the Eis Kaffee! We left promptly to the waiter crying 'Signorina, signorina, whats the problem?' She pointed out that we had to wait over 10 minutes for service and the 2 cold coffees and we were refunded 50 centsSadly never again. read more
