At the top of the over-the-top department store known as Galeria Kaufhof is a self service restaurant known as Dinea. Apparently in the old GDR days this was the biggest store in East Berlin. Well, its still huge - and I'm guessing the food is a LOT better now than it was then. And if thats the case.... oy.
So: Grab a tray, grab a plate and start piling on the goodies. Gotta say, it was really heavy on the veggies and carbs. I was in need of proteins, and without waiting in an epic line for one of the grill stations to serve me, choices were a tad limited. The chicken nuggets were surprisingly good, the meatballs decent, some spring rolls were crispy and delicious (yeah, I had some veggies there) and a half a salmon sandwich (with BUTTER?) was tasty, but the bread was a tad dry (stale even).
Verdict: Don't do this on a Saturday unless you have to. The crowds are re-cock-ulous, getting what you want is a pain, and the food that is out is just OK. 17,90 per kilo is pricy for what I'd call 'just so-so' food. Perhaps if I had had the fortitude to stand in line for the (slow) service stations I'd have been happier. read more
