When we're traveling, it's rare for use to eat at the same place twice, but we broke that rule for Le Bouchon because we enjoyed their food and service so much. Cafes and Bistros can be found on just about every corner and street in Paris, and it's hard to find a bad one. Occasionally though, you hear that they're either very touristy or not particularly friendly towards Americans. Not so at Le Bouchon. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like regulars from the neighborhood. Our server the first night was Sophien (sp?), who was very funny and happy to engage us in conversation. Like most of these Bistros, the space is tight but comfortable. It actually enabled us to meet and talk with other out of towners at nearby tables. There were some creative cocktail options and the ones we tried were excellent. They also have a nice selection of wines by the glass, at very reasonable prices (much better than in the U.S.). We started out with the requisite Onion Soup. Their version is a bit different in that the base was more of a Chicken Broth than the traditional Beef, and there was a clear undertone of Parmesan. Both worked very well! I also had the Escargot which were large and cooked perfectly with the usual very garlicky dousing of butter and wonderful bread to sop it up with. We were off to a very good start. For entrees, my wife had the Moules Frites, which was an incredibly large portion. She loved the flavors, but couldn't come close to finishing it. The Frites (fries) were excellent as well. I had Rigatoni in a Truffle/Parmesan Cream Sauce. It was so good! We finished the meal by sharing a Chocolate Mousse that was lighter than air and made with an intensely flavored chocolate. Heaven! After paying the bill and starting to put on our coats, the Manager, Raoul, asked to to sit back down. He then surprised us with two Limoncello's! On our last night in Paris, with legs weary from lots of walking and still needing to pack for the trip home, we really didn't want to go far for dinner. So, of course we went back to Le Bouchon which was only a block and a half from our hotel. We were once again greeted like regulars and shown to a nice cozy table in the outdoor area (enclosed with good heating). This time my wife had the Fish and Chips (yes, they have this in France) and I had the Duck Confit. Again, perfection! We again had good conversations with other diners, our server from the first night stopped by to chat, and the Manager, surprised us once again with a Limoncello for my wife and announcing that he had something special for me: an Argentinian Rum that he smoked at the table. I have no idea how he knew I love smoked high-end spirits. We can't recommend Le Bouchon enough. It's only a few blocks from the Eiffel Tour in a nice quiet neighborhood. read more
