overcooked duck, flavorless chunks of squash/pumpkin

Very disappointed. Ravioli was clearly reheated (ring of oil around the edge of the bowl from the sauce, ravioli gummy. Duck course was also probably reheated - duck overdone, pumpkin puree okay, but chunks of pumpkin on the plate were unseasoned and flavorless (why they were there I don't know), dessert was fine. Apparently the restaurant was sold recently and even thought my hotel concierge told me they promised to keep the same team - either they changed the chef or I was unlucky. Had much better meals at other places in nice - definitely NOT Michelin quality - they lost their star a while ago and now are mentioned, but not even bib gourmand. Buyer beware.

Our mains from the tasting menu: sea bass with a cabbage salad and truffle cream and lamb with yummy veggies. Both fantastic!

I am a tough judge and I would say this was 4.5 stars, but that's only because I am tough judge. :-) We had such a lovely night at Le Bistro Gourmand. The staff, the food, the decor... all great. It is a place that has super food, but where you feel comfortable... my favorite type of place. We did the tasting menu with pairings, and added on their special cocktail (a weekly special) and split a cheese plate before dessert. The tasting menu was 2 starters, 1 main, and a dessert for 68EUR (or close to that) and with pairings it was 93EUR. Based on the service and food, this was a terrific deal. Definitely worth that. (You can also order a la carte of course!) The food... wow... the amuse bouche was three dishes: white bean soup, a creamy foie gras "soup", and an embellished cracker. Each bite was a good range of flavor. The first starter was an amazing veggie soup with a huge portion of foie gras. My husband is not a fan, but with the freshness of the soup, he ate every bite! Next was a risitto with scallops and a truffled foam. Again, hubs, who doesn't like truffles, nearly licked his martini glass, which was the serving plate. I got the fish for the main which was an expertly prepared sea bass. Really well done. The rack of lamb was my husband's choice and I had to fight him for a bite, though he gladly gave me some of the veggies. ;-) While the wines were not 5 star for our tastes, we were excited to be exposed to some wines we had not had. I was especially surprised by the muscat they served with the first starter. The cheese tray also exposed us to cheeses we had not had. One was super nutty and creamy at the same time. I am going to try and find it in the US. Fingers crossed. And the souffles... oh the light airy, perfect souffles! Yum, yum, yummity! If I could have ordered another, I would have, but I was full. Though, I want to also say, I wasn't too full. I think that their portion sizes were really well done. So, THANK YOU le Bistro Gourmand for a perfect last night in France. Your team is just wonderful across the board -- the wait staff, the chefs (got to say hi to them as I wandered back to les toilettes), and even the dish washer who so nicely opened the door for me! You can tell this is a happy place to work. That's just nice to be around.

    Lobster Risotto, incredible dish

Best meal I had in Nice and possibly France (in south, Bordeaux region and Paris). There are meals in life where you have to say fuck the price, go for it, settle in and enjoy what is likely a memorable food experience - this is one of those places. Went with the mid-tier fixed price with the wine pairings. Each plate was the work of an artist, beautiful to look at and I could've eaten 10 servings of each it was so damn good. I ate here back in late August so hard to remember all the dishes, but the star of the show was a lobster risotto served in a martini glass, it was genius and delectable to the power of infinity. Our waiter was a consummate professional, explaining dishes as they came out and made sure we had the opportunity to meet the executive chef to directly share our gratitude and appreciation for such a fine meal. Not sure when I'll be back to Nice, but if this place is still open I would will be there without a doubt.

I went here with 3 friends for a Saturday night dinner out in Nice. I would advise calling up ahead and asking to book a table, as when we were there, there was not one table available. This night out was a very good evening to be honest. We picked a decent bottle of wine, and it was well priced, we ended up having a couple of them :) The menu has various options on it,as in, 2 course, 3 courses, just individual items and so on. We went for the main and desert option. 2 of the ladies asked for the fish of the day, and this was John Dory, my other friend and I both went for the filet of beef. The girls asked for the sauce of the fish to be served to the side, but it turned up with it on, no huge drama, the waiter then proceeded to serve it up from the side of the table and it was super fresh, the girls said it was very good indeed. It must have been fishing just that morning! As for the steak, it was divine. Cooked perfectly. The Bearnaise sauce was excellent too, it was so good and each mouthful was savoured. In between course, we got bought out random food, which was a nice touch. We then ordered the deserts. A raspberry souffle, a Grand Marnier Souffle, strawberry sorbet and chocolate, mix of ice creams. The souffle were cooked very well, although they were very very sweet, and there is not a lot you can say about the sorbet, sorbet is sorbet! The waiters were attentive, a mistake here and there, but, all in all a very pleasant evening and if someone wants somewhere to go for a dinner out, then absolutely do give this place a shot.

Oh my veal, why were you so lonely and no saucy?

This will be a tough one. How can you review a place where me and my lady had some of the best dishes of our lives, joined with less than average ones? Ok I'll start from the beginning. Me and my lady were in Cote d'Azur for celebrating one of the most important events of our lives, and we wanted a special place. And this is it, a wonderful, refined place. The architecture and the decor of the place is mind blowing: my lady described it as "perfect", and she is kind of picky regarding internal design! Classy, elegant, modern, it has everything, impeccable. We had been wonderfully welcomed by the maitre de salle, and every waiter had a nice smile on their faces, something difficult to find in Cote d'azur and especially in Nice, one of the most touristic places in France. We both chose the tasting menu for around 50 €, 4 dishes in the italian style, appetizer, first entry, main entry and dessert. Interesting enough, I liked this style and the price is really convenient. I don't want to comment every single dish, but I just want to point out the best and the not-so great dishes. First mention for what is one of the best dishes I had in my life: their signature dish, truffle rice with endive, st-jacques and parmesan cappuccino. This IS wonderful. I mean seriously, it was just too good for being a single dish: every single flavor was perfectly mixed together with the other ones, the rice cooking time was perfect, the consistency of everything is pure joy, that's one of the best thing you can have on a table. My lady was almost in tears for how good it was, and we were really sorry for having finished it. That was majestic, incredible, sublime. Did I already said it's served in a martini glass?! My fiancée had a passion fruit and chocolate mousse, and I'm quoting "this is the best thing to eat after a whole meal". Said by a person who doesn't like many desserts and at the end of a meal at the end of a very long day that's really something. First of all the dish is very nice looking: half golden half white, with the mousse in a chocolate box as the center of a sun circled by rays. Awesome to look at. Inside the chocolate crust we found an amazing chocolate mousse, not too soft, not too sweet, deliciously bitter with a fruit passion sauce in the middle which makes a nice contrast with the chocolate. Delicious. But... If these two dishes were in the category "too good to be true", some others were in the "meh" or even lower category. As an example, the foie gras in poele with pear mousse and season fruit: wrong, definitely. the fois gras was overcooked and badly cut, the mousse too sweet and the fruit too randomly chosen, the entire dish was wrong and not satisfactory. The main entry was disappointing too: my veal dish was just too poor, dried and overcooked. A pity. So in the end.... How to classify this restaurant? I decided for an upper rating, because lights were far heavier than the shadows. It's a great restaurant, and hopefully keeping their signature dish and changing the other ones something greater can be achieved. But you seriously need to get here for the rice. At least just the rice. Have it, love it, and share it. If you are not falling in love with that dish I don't know what can.

Just had a wonderful, memorable dinner at Le Bistro Gourmand. They handled my food allergy (gluten) with ease and grace. Pointed out some amazing options and even served me gluten free olive rolls that were very nice. Every dish was perfectly prepared and the service was attentive with a light touch. Highly recommend.

I ordered the pigeon. I've never had it before. It was unreal.

The restaurant has a humble exterior (largely blocked by gelato customers), but once you descend the stairs into the dining area you are in a sheek, romantic, cellar. Intimately small but comfortable. The walls are lined with stone and endless wine bottles. The starters were all quite good. We had the snails, squid, and cheese plait. As a bonus, my waitress recommended an excellent wine to pair with the squid. It was spot on. My group shared the beef and tartafelle (forgive my spelling). The beef was succulent, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I had no idea what to expect with the second dish but it was delicious and I would certainly order again. The prior night, I had the bakes camembert when eating solo. The dish is exactly as described. It's tasty, but I'd recommend it for a group since eating an entire block of melted cheese solo is challenging. Last but not least, the wait staff were wonderful! We really enjoyed chatting with our 2 waitresses, who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and our election of drinks. As a tourist, you really hope to stumble on a gem like this were the locals charm you and really guide your dining experience. If ever back in Nice, i'll certainly go again!

The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
