I don't leave restaurant reviews. This is my second one ever.
The food: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5
We were a group of 6; we all ordered the 49 euro 4 course tasting menu and 3 bottles of wine (1 white and 2 red).
The reason for 1 star is: how our total bill was handled and charged. When our meal was over, my partner handed his credit card (before seeing the itemized bill - and before anyone else because the dinner was going to be on "us"). When he got the credit card receipt, it was exactly 500 euros total. We were expecting in the range of $420 euro or so.
I think this is what happened: we thought we ordered the bottles of wine in the 30-40 euro range. When it was the time to switch to red, the waiter brought us a different wine because they had ran out the red we initially ordered. Our understanding was that it was going to be the same price. The staff were "upselling" the wine WITHOUT clarifying it was not the same price. (The staff spoke English well, in addition, 3 people in our party who spoke French fluently).
Another possibility is that the staff added a "gratuity/tip" without telling us. I still would like to think that it was the "upselling" that made our bill 500 euros. But still! The total bill being exactly 500 euros was perplexing. Maybe it's because the staff did both "upselling" and adding the gratuity to the bill made it exactly 500 euros...
When I asked for another "receipt" - thinking I was going to get an itemized bill, they just handed me another receipt just showing the total. I didn't want to make a fuss since we were all about to leave and were among friends. Now, I should have made a fuss.
The bill incident/situation really ruined the otherwise pleasurable experience we had at the restaurant. Frankly, I was actually left feeling pretty pissed-off on our Uber back to the apt.
So here was our experience. We doubt we will go back. (We come to Paris every year). read more
