Layered! Very cute, but busier than Penn Station during commuter hours lol. Just kidding, it wasn't quite that bad, but it was definitely packed, which is a testament to how popular they are . My family visited on a random evening just before dinner. When you walk in, it feels like a cross between a coworking space and a bakery. There's plenty of seating, and the space feels welcoming and well designed. When you're ready to order, you step up to the counter where you're greeted by the most unfair display of desserts imaginable. They're basically smiling at your back and waving your diet goodbye . My family and I ended up trying almost one of everything, with the exception of anything containing nuts since we're all allergic. If I'm being honest, the more acidic flavors were the standouts for me. Anything with lemon or lime was fantastic. The lavender and strawberry options were good as well, but their flavors were much more delicate and subtle. The customer service was great. Even though the place was busy, the staff genuinely seemed to care about doing a good job and taking care of customers, which was very much appreciated. Parking can be a little rough on busy days, but it's definitely not DC-level awful lol. I'll definitely be back. Mostly because the desserts have already convinced me that my fitness goals can wait another day.
Layered is a dessert place in Fairfax that is an extension of Chateau de Chantilly. They're known for their viral fruit shaped mousses and aesthetic. There's plenty of free parking in the lot of the complex as well as indoor and outdoor seating At this cafe, you can order mousses, drinks, and some savory baked pastries. The prices are really expensive, but that'd due to the Instagram hype around the 3D fruit desserts. The ambiance inside is good for a first date or hanging out with a group of 2-4 friends to catch up. It's clean and Instagram content friendly. To order, you stand in line and one of the people behind the counter plate your desserts and takes your drink order before you pay. We got the cafe au lait and the raspberry. The cafe au lait was ~$6, the raspberry was ~$12, and each of the drinks were ~$8.50. The cafe au lait was delicious - the mouse paired well with the cake inside and wasn't overpowered by the coffee flavor. The raspberry, however, was too tart and the cookie on the bottom was really hard to break with a spoon. The pistachio latte was delicious, but the texture of the pistachios in the drink made the experience unpleasant. The mango matcha and strawberry matcha, however, were the perfect amount of sweet. I'd recommend trying this place once for the hype, but, honestly, the desserts were too expensive and not as enjoyable as i'd liked.
I can definitely see why there is so much hype about this place. The desserts all look amazing. Almost too good to eat. The desserts are kind of pricey. I stopped in to try their version of a dot cake. The cake was $10. It was decent in size. The flavor of the cake was not too overpowering and overall satisfied my need to try something new.
1. Aesthetic, good for the gram, picture perfect cakes. A lot of hype! Expensive with each cake about $10, but no price tags on the displays. They do not taste as good as they look though. Pistachio cake: 4/5, creamy and heavily chocolatey, with no texture change. Pistachio taste masked by the chocolate. Crunchy pieces inside were soggy. Tasted better after sitting in the fridge overnight. Creme brulee cake:3/5 missing the creme brulee concept but a nice light vanilla cake with some lavender pieces. Cappuccino was well made and reasonably priced. Iced pistachio latte tasted like pistachios and had a decent coffee taste too. Overall: come here if you're looking for a pretty cake photo and creamy cake with an outer crisp layer but not an exceptionally flavored cake. Lots of indoor seating, a few outdoor seats, and free parking. To go bags were nice and sturdy to transport the cake in one piece.
Asian-style buns, petite cakes, and good coffee? You know I'm there! This café is spacious and is designed intentionally for folks to work, read, or just relax. The staff are super friendly. One of them kindly told me that I can warm up my bun in the microwave that's for customers to use. It was a terrific place to spend a few hours while getting work done!
There honestly aren't enough good things I can say about this place, my only complaint is that I don't live closer! The cakes are amazing, and I often bring them to clients who absolutely go crazy over them. Everything I've tried has been delicious. But for me, it's all about the matcha. They've introduced a few new flavors recently, but I always go back to my favorite, the strawberry shortcake matcha latte with oat milk. Easily the best matcha in NOVA. I make it a point to stop by anytime I'm within a 10 minute drive. The atmosphere is such a good mix of coffee shop and coworking space, and there are always people working, meeting up, or just hanging out. Whether I'm placing a large order or just grabbing one drink for myself, the service is consistently great. The staff is always friendly, and everything comes out quickly. They also have a really solid rewards program. I regularly end up getting a few dollars off my latte, which is always a nice surprise. If you haven't tried Layered yet, you're seriously missing out.
Been here a few times now. We've also visited their sister store, Chateau de Chantilly which is also good so I had high expectations. Of course, we came mainly to try their fruit shaped desserts and despite the price, they all live up to the hype in my opinion. We've tried just about all of them (and other non-fruit shaped desserts) and you can't really go wrong. Loved the mango and the ube cheesecake. The drinks are good, very creamy and maybe a little too sweet sometimes. Great for a coffee date or an after dinner spot.
Finally tried Layered and now I understand the hype. I tried their Kyoto Latte (latte with condensed milk. The latte was a bit watery, but I can't wait to try their other drinks! And of course I had to try their fruit desserts! From Mango to Matcha Jasmine, everything tastes so fresh, delicious, and beautifully crafted. It's a busy spot but still gives that cozy cafe feel. Finding a seat is a challenge, but so worth it!
We were in the Northern Virginia area and decided to try Layered in Fairfax. We had attempted to visit when they first opened, but at that time they were only doing limited batches. Now, they seem to be producing desserts continuously to keep up with demand. The location appears to be in a former McDonald's building, which gives you a sense of the space, it's fairly large. There are a variety of seating options, and it looks like they've added a new outdoor patio as well. There's a small self-service area for some treats, but most items are ordered from behind the counter. We arrived around 8 PM, and it was busy. We waited about 15 minutes to place our order and another 15 minutes to receive our drinks and desserts. We tried the Yuzu & Limoncello, Rocher, and Café Au Lait desserts (each around $9.40), along with a tiramisu latte ($6.40). Everything was delicious--creamy, well-balanced, and full of flavor. Prices are on the higher side. The cashier was friendly, though it seemed like they might have been understaffed. That said, the team handled the crowd well. Overall, it's a nice spot to check out if you're already in the area, but not somewhere we'd go out of our way to visit.
This place was not as amazing as I expected it to be. It is super trendy because of the fruit desserts. I was super excited to try them. However, they were $13-$14 EACH. This was shocking and the prices were hidden. The raspberry dessert barely had any raspberry taste to it and was subpar. The mango was super good and had lots of mango flavor. The chocolate mousse was super rich and filling. The food is dense and filling. Cool ambiance and ample parking. The service was excellent. Again, it's a cool study spot or a place to try once, but not affordable as a regular spot.
We've been waiting to try this place for the last year and man was it disappointing. This place is definitely over hyped. The pastries are cute but flavor isn't that great. It's just okay. We got the mango, vanilla, pistachio, yuzu & spinach pie. The spinach pie was the best thing we had unfortunately. Service was great though. The staff are really nice & helpful.
have heard a lot about this place so decided to give it a try since the hype has died down. I love the interior with options to work from super cute! I ordered the banana cream matcha which indeed tasted like banana. I didn't taste much of the matcha but it may due to how strong the banana cream flavor is. I personally would not get it again. I also got to try the cappuccino here and it was the standard capp nothing fancy or "wow" about it. Didn't get to try the dessert items so may need to come back & try it once. Service was friendly overall!
I finally got a chance to try layered and I really loved it. This cafe is large with plenty of seating but it does get super busy on weekends. They have so many drink options and I tried the banana matcha which was so delicious! All of their pastries are all handmade and they look pretty and so much like real fruit. Their pastries are basically art and that's why this place is a bit pricey. I think the price is worth what you get. All the pastries I tried were delicious but my absolute favorite was the mango.
Very beautiful creations, tastes good too, but waaayy overpriced! We tried the Mango; crunchy outside, gooey inside, not bad at all. We also tried the Rocher, rich and chocolaty. It's an experience, unfortunately I have no plans to return due to the prohibitive prices. read more

Like many others, I was influenced by social media to come try the beautiful fruit-shaped cakes -- and they truly are stunning in person. We ordered the lemon, raspberry, strawberry, and the Chocovick (not pictured were the raspberry white chocolate latte and the tiramisu cold brew). Despite how busy it was, our wait was about 20 minutes, which felt quick considering the crowd. After taking the obligatory photos and finally digging in, we agreed that while the fruit cakes were gorgeous, they weren't our favorites. They were mostly cream with a bit of fruit compote inside, all wrapped in a very aesthetically pleasing shell. The real standout for us was the Chocovick -- it won both in flavor and texture and felt much more substantial. That said, everything was well made and tasty, and there were plenty of other cakes that caught my eye that I'd love to try next time. The staff was incredibly kind, efficient, and nonstop during the rush, yet the space still managed to feel calm and zen even when packed. Overall, don't skip the other cakes just to chase the viral fruit ones -- there are some real gems on the menu worth exploring. read more

To be brutally honest this place is junk. Just all hype. Another money hungry korean bakery. Such a let down. We had high hopes. $13 for a tiny fruit pastry?! That is just stupid! $9 for a matcha?!? To top it off, nothing tastes match the prices. We got the lemon, mango, strawberry, banana bread matcha and coconut matcha and it was almost $60!!!! These people are crazy! All hype, people will try it and never get seconds. We regret it so much . And the portion was so small .for $13 each it needs to be atleast double the size. Also the line to order is so unorganized. We were waiting in line and the korean people just walk infront on the other side of the rope and just start ordering. Cant express how dumb this place is. read more
The pastries are very impressive, they manage to be very realistic looking and also taste great! The service was fast and friendly. I will definitely return to have more pastries. The cafe itself is bright and airy. There are plenty of seats inside. I will say there is room for improvement on the matcha drinks as mine tasted a bit watered down and the berry flavor didn't come through as much as I'd like. Regardless I'll be back to try a coffee and pastry next time. read more
Layered has such a cute aesthetic and such pretty desserts. The service was ok, pretty quick considering how crowded it was there. The first time I went, I ordered the Cloud berry matcha and coco Pandan matcha but all the desserts were sold out. Both drinks were really sweet and couldn't even taste the matcha at all. It was very underwhelming and tasted like drinking sweetened milk. I went another time and gave it another try. This time was less busy and I ordered the coco Pandan matcha again and my friend got the strawberry shortcake matcha. The coco Pandan matcha had improved and there was a good balance of matcha, you could actually taste it this time. However, the strawberry shortcake matcha was again way too sweet and only tasted like strawberry. Even after rigorously mixing the drink was super thick of mostly strawberry jam. The desserts were pretty good. We bought the matcha jasmine and lemon dessert. The matcha jasmine dessert was pretty good, light and fluffy, not too sweet. The lemon dessert was rly sour/tart, not to my liking. read more

You could feel the love in this place because so many people where here when we entered. You could see the smiles on everyones faces as as they were looking at the pastries. There are definitely artists working in the back room. We choose like 4 and my Cheesecake all which were all good chooses. I will go on record and say that the Lemon one was definitely the best! I don't have a sweet tooth but if you do definitely give this place a try! read more

I was super excited to check the out but I fell short in what I expected. Their pastries are extremely high priced for the size and taste of them. What brought me in was their campfire hot chocolate and when I saw it, just by looking at it I was disappointed mainly because it looked nothing like the photos or videos that they promoted. I got 2 hot chocolates and 5 pastries and spent 80$ I thought it was pretty steep considering they had no prices to show you what everything cost. I did make them aware that the hot chocolate looked nothing like the promote and they just smiled. The cheesecake was okay, I also got the Rocher and it was also just okay. Layered is a fun concept: creative drinks and viral fruit pastries. I have tried several of their pastries and they are overall pretty good. My only gripe is that their coffee drinks, while fun and flavorful, are too sweet. I will give them another try some time in the future and try to request less sweet drinks. read more

This place got a bad wrap when it first opened. Long lines and they sold out of things within hours of opening. But now that the crowds have died down, it's a cute place to catch up with friends. The interior is beautiful and dessert are as well! It's true the desserts are a little pricey but worth a try if you're curious! They also have a great variety of desserts and drinks so there's something for everyone. Great as an aesthetic place to catch up with friends but I would pass as a go-to bakery for sweet treats Only have 1 picture. But have been here a few times trying the fruit pastries and a couple drinks. The drinks are just ok for me but the desserts are definitely better! read more
Sooo last week I celebrated my birthday. And I felt like I deserved a beautiful dessert. After an hours drive from Baltimore I was here at Layered. The desserts are incredibly beautiful. However, there's no menu, so you won't know the prices until you reach the register. * my bill was $40.00 total with each pastry ranging from 9.00 to 12.00.* The ambiance is minimalist with a touch of sparkle from the chandeliers. If you live in the area it's a great place to do some work or study. They had a limited selection of savory options to choose from: the hotdog bun, the onion bun and the garlic cream cheese croissant. I wish they had come heated up because the hotdog was cold. *I noticed the microwave after I ate the hotdog* but I wasn't informed that they had one. I ordered the Hotdog Bun, the Lemon and Matcha Jasmine. They were all soooo good. The lattes take an incredibly long time to make.. the slowest baristas I've ever seen.. super nice but super slow. I ordered at 2:13 p.m. and received my latte at 2:39 p.m. I ordered the Tiramisu Latte. I was told it's the most popular. The fact that Tiramisu is a coffee dessert the latte tasted like a latte ... not a bad latte. But for me there was nothing special about that particular drink. When I return I would like to try the Banana Bread Match. What I thought was cool was the open kitchen concept. You could see the pastry chefs making their edible works of art. Overall, was the cafe worth the drive? Yes. The vibe and atmosphere are a 6.5, the drink wait is a 1, the latte is a 7.5, the desserts are a 10, and the hotdog bun is a 5. If you're coming for the desserts, it's a 10. Overall, I'd rate it a 7.5. read more
Layered has been on my list of places to try from the moment they opened! However, I kept hearing that they had a shortage and there were specific times of the day they would drop more desserts. I didn't want to deal with that so I kind of just waited for the hype to end. I had very high hopes for this place as the desserts all look incredible! Truly every single one is a piece of art. However, I was sort of disappointed in their taste. The lemon one was wayyy too sour to enjoy, it did not have the sweetness to balance out the sour filling on the inside. This was my least favorite of the ones i tried. Same with the mango, it just left a lot to be desired. The inside filling was a bit lack luster, and wasn't very flavor-packed. It just didn't taste mangoey enough, if that makes sense. My favorite was easily the chocolate dessert and the only one that actually felt worth paying the hefty price tag for. It has a chocolate mousse filling, with softer chocolate layer and a base with crunchy elements. These desserts are not cheap, so it's a bit disappointing to pay as much as I did and leave feeling unsatisfied. I can sort of justify the cost given that I'm sure it takes a lot of effort to make these; but I would recommend going back to the drawing board for some of these desserts. The inside space was not super big either. But I would consider trying coffee and maybe sticking to the non-fruit desserts if I want to go here again in the future. read more
My friends picked up some desserts from here recently. Everything was delicious. The textures and flavors were on point. Loved the packaging as well. My friends said the wait time wasn't too long considering they went in the middle of a Saturday. The chocolate mouse and lemon desserts were my favorites. I'll definitely be back to try some of their seasonal items. read more

Quick service. Very busy. VERY expensive. I got a strawberry, raspberry, tiramisu, and a christmas ornament for just under $50. Strawberry was best, followed by the raspberry. Tiramisu was okay, not great. Christmas ornament was meh. Ample parking. Decent portion size, overall okay tasting. I may give it another try. read more
Layered is good coffee shop, they have a variety of goods to choose from, salty, savory, and in between. I was excited for their cakes and got a mango and chocolate biscoff one. The chocolate one although looked great, but tasted bland, the mango one on the other hand was fantastic! It's a great place to work from, and good for family or gathering as well, think Eid morning after prayer gathering. The inside is modern and the staff is really helpful! Definitely worth checking out. read more

Finally got the chance to go to layered today and I will say I enjoyed the drink a lot! The cafe au lait dessert was lightly sweetened so that was good! They have a really cool open kitchen set-up and the service was decent. read more

Nice spot to hang out with friends or get some studying done while enjoying drinks and cake. I tried a few of the fruit cakes and they looked adorable, which is perfect for photos, but the taste was just okay and I'm not sure they're worth $13.60 each. The store itself is clean and very cute, the bathroom is well-kept, and the service is great! read more

Update to review - the drinks definitely need work here. I had the cold brew with salted caramel cream. I had to throw it out. It tasted like half a container of salt was dumped in it. The desserts have been consistently good but the drinks are a major hit or miss read more

The lines are insanely long so get there an hour or so early before the drop times for the pastries. I went at 4:30 PM and there was about 30 people already in line. With that, I was able to get the last fruit pastry (lemon) for around $12-13 The aesthetic is definitely there but hopefully the hype dies down so I can try the other fruit pastries. Definitely recommend trying the creme brûlée and the mocha pastry, definitely worth the money! read more
Definitely wait until the hype dies down and after the improvements get figured out. I waited over half an hour and by the time I got to the front almost everything was sold out. I got the last chocolate ones and the only desserts left were the plain flan and cheesecake. I also tried their cloudberry matcha and it was really grainy. It seems they didn't even bother to sift the matcha. The chocolate desserts are way too sweet and the caramel in the center for one of them was very overpowering. Maybe this place is only worth if you can get your hands on the fruit dessert but that won't happen unless you're willing to wait an hour in advance before their drop and skip work on a random weekday which is insane. read more
Beautiful modern open space with plenty of seating both inside and outside. Staff were really helpful and pleasant. Limited number of cakes since it's still their soft opening. Cake tastes delicious and not too sweet. Coffee was delicious too. Plenty of parking in the lot. Looking forward to coming back to try other cakes and hopefully more food options read more
I was 5th in line this go around and waited 45 minutes until 5. I ordered the salted cream iced coffee, which was very good. We also decided on the raspberry and mango patisseries. The mango was creamy, not too sweet with semi frozen fresh mangoes. Our pastry cream raspberry dessert had a real fruit flavor with a tart jam inside on a flower shaped tasteless cookie. read more
This was a really cute dessert shop. I wanted to come here after the hype died down and the pastries were available at any time rather than the drop model they implemented a few months back. The desserts were beautifully crafted and realistic-looking. I also liked that they had all allergens readily listed on the signs, which was useful for my friend who was allergic to nuts. I got the mango pastry, which was very beautiful and had a tasty mango flavor. There was also a filling inside made with real mangoes, which was nice. However, I feel like the prices were pretty steep-my single pastry cost $14 after tax. Would I come here again? Sure, if I wanted to take an aesthetic pic. However, if I just wanted a tasty dessert, I feel like there are other places in the area that are priced lower and taste just as good. One suggestion to the staff: please make the TV menus static. It was really hard to properly look at the options because the menu kept going away every few seconds. read more
FYI they only serve the pastries/desserts @ 7AM, noon, and 5pm which no where is that shown on a website or any review I've seen. I decided to try their drinks anyways and the one I had was soooo watered down it tasted like nothing. I know Pandan is a bit more subtle flavor but it sucked. I feel like this place is way overhyped and overpriced. I get that everyone comes for the pastries but they don't even make it obvious that they only sell 3x a day. And when they do sell them you have to wait in a huge line. Not worth my time. read more
My sister and I went during the soft opening, and was disappointed to see the deserts sell out so quickly. However, the matcha drinks were solid. My sister got the cloud matcha drink which was pretty sweet but you could tell that the blueberry syrup was made in house. I had the pandan matcha drink which was okay. It taste mostly like soy milk and a touch of pandan with coconut topics. I think the atmosphere is quite modern and social. went around 6 pm, it seems like the opening day rush has died down a lot. i got the coco pandan latte - i felt like it was 40% coconut, 40% pandan, and like 20% matcha. i love pandan so i didnt mind, but ill definitely be asking for less sweet next time. i liked my drink enough that i definitely want to come back and try other things. the one thing that really bothered me was that the menu screen kept transitioning and changing colors and it was very hard to read while in line this place has a lot of potential so im excited to see what happens. read more

Drinks: Unique coffee and non-caffeinated drinks make this place a special place to visit. We tried the cherry cold foam coffee, cloudberry matcha, pandan matcha and cortado. They were all very tasty and not too sweet. Ambiance: Modern, open, well-lighted, and love the plentiful outdoor space. This place has great space for singles, small or large groups. Desserts: The mango pastry did not disappoint. I've never had or seen anything like it!! The strawberry was good too. We also loved the raspberry pistachio cake. I loved how it was the right flavor, sweetness, and texture. We did wait in line for the fruit desserts. The line was 15 people long at 4:30pm even though the register didn't open at 5pm. But the wait was worth it!!! read more
