Does this place need another 5-star review? Well, YES! My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary, and it was amazing. First of all, a blacksmith class? How cool is that! My husband was beyond excited from the moment I told him about it. I'm super into history and the thought of experiencing the blacksmith trade first-hand was so appealing. We are so glad we went. From the very beginning of the booking process to leaving the forge with our horseshoes-turned-knives, the entire experience was well thought out, inclusive and clearly communicated. And fun!! Max, the owner, is an upbeat guy who really knows his stuff. My husband and I signed up for a private class, but Max was leading a group class in the other room. He kept everyone going and even spent time chatting with us at the end. It's very clear that this forge is important to him, and also that he definitely values his customers and wants them to have a great time. Our instructor was Jack. He's amazing!! My husband is a big strong guy, and on the other end I was nervous just using the hammer. Jack worked with us both, and was super encouraging. I really needed that! Jack was kind, funny, confident and very good at teaching. He worked right along with us and made a knife as we were, to demonstrate each step. This helped so much! Blacksmithing is an art, and Jack took the time to explain why we needed to hit the metal in certain directions, how to get safely to and from the forge and also we just chatted and got to know each other. Truly a one-of-a-kind afternoon full of adventure, and the great feeling of SUCCESS when you actually transform a regular horseshoe into a usable knife! I cannot recommend Lawless Forge highly enough. Our class was 3 hours, it was well-structured, and I felt like I could keep up. Be prepared -- it is hard work! My husband thought it was easy. :) Jack had so many great tips, like how to stand by the anvil, and he answered all my questions. I believe the forge currently has 83 anvils, with plans to add dozens more. You HAVE to check this place out. Max really loves what he does and has created an environment that's fun, challenging in a good way, and safe. I felt so inspired at Lawless Forge! We plan to bring the kids back in the future, as they said kids can do this too, and I totally believe it, seeing how much thought has gone into planning the classes. Really, that was so impressive. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! We took the chopsticks class from noon-3PM on a Saturday. Our instructor Buddy joked around with us all, and was very patient when we would make mistakes. This place is incredible! We attended the horseshoe knife class with Spiff. Spiff is an amazing teacher; he's knowledgeable, helpful and encouraging. I am so excited to have the privilege of writing this review. Lawless Forge provided an awesome adventure for my husband and I in celebration of his birthday. We arrived early and Buddy got us started right away on our leather sheaths since we were the only two scheduled for that portion of the class. His instruction was clear and precise, and he quickly attended to any questions. Once we got started on the actual knife forging class, he again was engaging, encouraging, and not shy at all with his 'corny' jokes, and open personality. I appreciated his hands-on assistance with some of the effort, in order to understand how my hits were working. We enjoyed this class very much, and it shows on our social media accounts. This was such an amazing experience. We had family in from out of town who really wanted to spend some time together with a unique experience. Lawless Forge was the perfect place. Super fun & highly recommended! My team at work was looking for something fun to do and I feel super lucky we came across Lawless Forge. I feel like just about every other class I've already been there and done it. This offered something unique no one has tried. TIP: great for both women and men - don't be biased until you give it a go! I was talking to the host and they actually skew more towards women signing up. The hosts were nice, funny, and super helpful. We loved the shop dogs, which were all friendly. I especially enjoyed the huge great dane that greeted me. How cool is it to walk away from a work event with a knife that you made, and will have pretty much forever? Awesome! BONUS TIP: Ask for permission to bring a box of wine or beer.
