I ordered the fish sandwich and my mother ordered the fish platter. I asked to get haluski as my side and the waitress told me "we don't have any yet". I was confused because their Facebook post for the day stated the available sides were fries, mac and cheese or haluski. I just got fries. The food was fresh and hot, but tasteless. The tartar sauce was just mayo mixed with relish (very gross imo), the coleslaw my mother got was very sweet (not good at all) and had a heavy mayo taste as well. The fries needed salt. The fish sandwich was small, compared to two other restaurants in the area, which was around the same price. Halfway through our meal, the couple next to us were offered the other sides of mac or haluski. My mother asked why were told there was no other side available. We spoke to a different waitress who told us that it's only as a special after 4, but it was only 3:30. We ordered our meals at approx 3. She said it can be offered early and we can get it as an additional side. I declined because it wasn't initially offered by our main waitress. I was bothered by that to be honest. Other tables were offered it, but we were not. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this place. It was overpriced and has small portions. I know they have been open a long time and have a lot of customers, but I won't be a customer again.

So the larger your group is, the harder it will be for you to get a table. Parking can get tricky too. My own gaggle of friends has learned to carpool, and we accept that we won't always be seated directly together. Like any good diner, Dog House's menu has plenty of breakfast options, along with burgers and sandwiches. The menu is simple but solid, and the prices are reasonable. The French toast is my bestie's favorite, and I can confirm that their burgers and Belgian waffle are also quite good. Most recently I ordered the Chicken & Waffles; it was tasty, but I admittedly wish it came with more syrup. Also wouldn't have been upset if it came with one more tender since they were on the smaller side. The staff are very nice and they clearly work as quickly as possible. Of course, their speed is always dependent on how busy the diner is overall. I'll echo other reviewers saying that if you go in expecting to eat at a small town diner, you won't be disappointed. And my recommendation is to order a breakfast item or a burger to get the whole small town diner experience!

Plus side, initial service was fast and friendly but no water delivered (had to ask). The crab cake appetizer (market price $16.95) was good, two fairly large crab cakes - not too much filler, served with a tasty mayo sauce. Dinner arrived, the hit was that the filet mignon was super tender but came out very rare, not medium as requested. But they took this back and it came back charred on the outside but perfectly cooked inside, still good and served with salad and baked potato. The chicken club sandwich was good, wine was passable. The fish and chips however were very terrible.... frozen (Groton ?) fish sticks is not what we were prepared for so that was a massive no thanks. (The menu describes this as Icelandic cod filets prepared in a seasoned beer batter...)

Also had a reuben, though this was a little disappointing. Too much bread and not enough of anything on it, really. I probably would not get that again, unfortunately. It was okay, just mediocre when you want a good reuben. We also had the fish sandwich, and my daughter said it was "okay." We definitely would go back and try something else. You don't need more staff. You need to get rid of your waitress "bunker" where they hide from your patrons. We were one of four tables in the dinning area and there were two waitresses in that area. I saw a bar tender and another waitress while we were there too. One table left before we had our appetizer served so that's two waitresses to three tables. No drink refill offers. I had to flag someone down to get a second beer after the empty bottle sat for 5 minutes and the waitress avoid my glaze every trip to the kitchen. Table of five. Three kids. One ordered an adult meal. Wife and I ordered full meals. Two dinner rolls for the table. If they only go with full meals, that still leaves 3 people to get rolls with three adult meals. When the appetizer arrived, we were asked if we wanted more rolls. They came after the meals were served. The salads were horrible. They were very cold, like they were nearly frozen. The lettuce was a bitter iceberg, and the cucumbers looked wilted. Stuffed banana peppers were good, but they were butterflied. This was our app. We got to eat it off the serving plate because no appetizer plates were given. Our daughter also ordered an app of cheese sticks. If they were true appetizers, it would be hard to share them with no plates. Were the waitresses overworked? Nope! They were often leaning up against the bar window hidden behind their little alcove, or they would enter the kitchen area and you could see them standing and BS'n though the kitchen window. My wife later told me she could see one checking her phone on the regular. There were less than 14 people between the three tables. If two waitresses can't handle 3 tables, you might as well give up now. They would come out and avoid direct eye contact. No "can I get you anything?" "How is everything?", or "would you like anything else?" They were no serving mentality displayed. Maybe they are not allowed to offer refills because the place serves everyone out of 16oz pop bottles. We had water and iced tea. Everyone got a bottle and a glass. No one was offered a refill and we had hot banana peppers as an app... No logic. The flounder was good. The corn side was smothered in butter. Pasta was mediocre. I hadn't been here in two decades because it is out of my way in a direction we rarely go. Probably will be another 20 years before we would try again.
