We went to Lagerheads for our first visit. We found the staff to be very nice and helpful, and the place was very clean. For appetizers, we tried their cheese fries (pretty good, though a little pricey for some french fries covered in cheese), and the stuffed peppers app special they were running. We found the peppers to be very good. They were definitely the star of our visit. For dinners, we tried a burger and a quesadilla, which were both good. The burger was great quality. Also had a reuben, though this was a little disappointing. Too much bread and not enough of anything on it, really. I probably would not get that again, unfortunately. It was okay, just mediocre when you want a good reuben. We also had the fish sandwich, and my daughter said it was "okay." We definitely would go back and try something else. I've been to Lagerheads a few times now. It's a pleasant little bar and grill located a stones throw from the river. I think it's an excellent establishment and one of my go to choices for a nearby restaurant. The food is up to my standards and the wait staff are very attentive and helpful with whatever you require. It's a place I often take my friends to when they visit and I have not been disappointed yet. read more

Driving through and someone had given a review of "as good as it gets around here". How could we not try it... . So glad we did. Really solid food. I had the reuben and my husband had the Hot Italian Sub. Our server Kendall suggested the lager cheese for the fries, and wow! Was it good. It's better than, as good as it gets. read more

I always forget about this restaurant, mainly due to its distance from us. There are other restaurants closer to us, but I have to give props where props are due. This is a nice little bar/restaurant in the college town of Cal U. We've never ventured to the bar side, always the restaurant side, and mainly for special occasions or their specials. However, after just checking their online menu and the Facebook page,...what happened to steak night? Or wing night? Is it gone for good or just during the pandemic? Say it ain't so Joe! Our last visit there was in January 2020, before this COVID nightmare began. We stopped in for their wing special. I think it was like $4.99 for a pound of wings. Personally, I don't like the pricing structure. Some of us got 10 wings, while others got 11. There's nothing really unique about their sauces; I tried the "Hotter Than You Want" and they weren't all that spicy. But the wings are always cooked spot on; never had an undercooked wing there. Love the fried pickles, but alas I d on't see them on the online menu anymore either. On another visit, I had the Mesquite Salmon Salad - THAT was really good. If you order a meal, see if you can get it with the little round carrots. They are sweeter than Moms Mabley. As for the beer? Great selection. Pricey (some glasses were $6; steep for a college town), but great selection. Beer taps line the railings next to the walls, with (presumably) faux loggerhead turtle shells adorning the walls. (Get it? Lagerheads?). Service is always good. Pricing is fair. Would we go back? We have. And we will. COVID be damned! read more

Went with a group of people. They all loved their food. So I would suggest this place and to make the decision yourself. However I would not suggest the sweet tea (did not taste like tea, had a bad taste to it) or the boneless wings (freezer burned). Service was average. read more

A great all around Restaurant that can be accessed from the Monongahela River by boat or jet ski! We go here as often as possible! Great food and a Great Craft Beer Selection!! Really great food and service was amazing. Also big plus is they allowed our dog on patio seating area. We had a burger with onion rings and "The Godfather" sandwich with fries. I would give Lagerheads 10 stars if I could! I am currently a grad student at Cal, so I have been to Lagerheads many times, and it's always a great experience! The food is so good! The wings are seriously fantastic! And so are the buffalo balls. And so are the sandwiches.... the list goes on. The beer is always cold and the crowd is always pretty decent. It's a family friendly place, which is a plus for being so close to a college town. Lagerheads is truly a little hidden gem that never disappoints! read more

Great place to stop during our road trip from Washington DC to Wisconsin. Coal Center, the town Lagerheads is in, is a tiny little town on the banks of Monongahela River right off of state hwy 43. The food here was delicious and our server super friendly. I had the Hot Italian sandwich, crispy fries, and lagerhead cheese sauce. Yum! The patio seating area is great and they let us bring our 2 dogs. The owners and staff were also super nice to our dogs giving them water and pets. read more

We watched this place grow. Back in the day we might be the only couple there on a Friday. Now, it's packed most of the time. Mark and Joy put a tremendous amount of sweat equity into the place, and it shows in the food, the furnishings and the ambiance. You can't go wrong here, unless you want to behave like a drunken fool. My wife and I are here once a week. We call it eating at home. read more

Overall an enjoyable place to eat and a nice atmosphere. I came here with my boyfriend and his two friends on Sunday July 7th in the evening and had a wonderful time. We all ordered the golden garlic wings and loaded nachos. The food was fantastic and tasty and hits the spot. I ordered a Sex on the Beach as my alcoholic drink, which was the best one I've had in quite some time. Our bartender was super friendly and conversational as well and all of the patrons seemed nice and there is a mixed crowd here of locals of all ages and college students. Plus the music is good. They played a variety of music types and were playing all one hit wonder songs I haven't heard in a long time. The decor is nice and the place is clean. If you are turned off by college bars and restaurants and are unsure of the place, I'd advise to give this restaurant/bar a chance as it is the best in the California area and it is far from being a dive bar or a college party bar. read more

Lagerheads is a fun college bar/restaurant near Cal U. Half the building a restaurant and half is a bar. Tip: If there is a wait for the restaurant, go to the bar side. There are tables there and you can order food without waiting for a table. We were here on both a Friday and a Saturday night and went to the bar. It wasn't too busy until after nine. We ordered the nachos, chicken fingers and Cobb salad. Everything was good, except the bartenders' attitude. I was expecting happy, outgoing bartenders. Instead, on both nights, it seemed as if we were bothering the staff when we ordered our drinks. Since we didn't have napkins with our nachos, we tried to get their attention to get some. Never happened. Instead, after about five minutes of waiting for the bartenders to notice us, the guy next to us leaned over the bar, grabbed some cocktail napkins and handed them to us. He said the same thing happened to him. Thank goodness for the friendly patrons! The bartenders' are simply not attentive or friendly. It was the only thing preventing the 5 stars. My advice...be bold. or loud. or both. read more

I have been going to Lagerheads since 2004 and they never disappoint. There aren't many actual sit down type restaurants this close to the college so when I was a student and parents or family would visit I would often take them here. I almost always get the same thing - the Buff Chick salad and Broccoli Poppers. They had this yummy Chocolate spoon cake and then didn't have it and now they have it again. I love it and its one of those desserts that come from a supplier so I've had it at different restaurants in the US. The owners have always been really nice and accommodating. I have ordered catering from here before and also have been to events in their top floor banquet room. read more

A gem around CalU. We went in for lunch and had pot stickers for a starter. Cooked perfect and good sauce to dip in. Got the Italian sandwich and didn't even need the dressing. Had lots of cheese and really enjoyed the foccacia bread it came on. My girlfriend got a mango margarita, and it was really tasty! She also had grilled chicken sandwich and it was great as well. The restaurant got busy quick and our waitress did a great job for how many tables she had. Overall great casual place with some nice beers. Check it out for lunch or dinner! read more

Halfway through our meal, the couple next to us were offered the other sides of mac or haluski. My mother asked why were told there was no other side available. We spoke to a different waitress who told us that it's only as a special after 4, but it was only 3:30. We ordered our meals at approx 3. She said it can be offered early and we can get it as an additional side. I declined because it wasn't initially offered by our main waitress. I was bothered by that to be honest. Other tables were offered it, but we were not. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this place. It was overpriced and has small portions. I know they have been open a long time and have a lot of customers, but I won't be a customer again.

She was very polite and took great care of our party. We started with an order of their jumbo hot garlic wings and they were fantastic, I wasn't able to snap a picture because they were gone as soon as they hit the table. For my entree I ordered the chicken parm sandwich and it was very good. Has a good cheese and sauce and the chicken has a nice crispy layer on it. Overall was a nice stop and hope to be back in the future!

The building is a beautiful mansion Est. in 1806. The mansion was converted to a restaurant in 1975. You need reservations for the upper upscale dining area. We decided to eat in the Speakeasy room located in the basement because it was more casual. Glad we ate in speakeasy room because it was a really nice cave looking room with vintage decor and cool prohibition photos from the 1920s. We enjoyed the Half Rack of char grilled pork ribs with brown sugar, soy and ginger with a side of cheesy scallop potatoes. For dessert, we enjoyed the crème brûlée and Kahlua cheesecake. Everything we ordered was excellent!! We had really good service. Check this place out if ever in the area. Happy Yelping :)
