Although they have the look, the food while not horrible, was not great, everything seemed to be frozen and heated before serving, there was only one server and she was overwhelmed trying to take care of all the patrons. The waitress couldn't answer questions about the food. Silverware had food on it. Food came out fast but was ice cold. Had to wait for her to come back to let her know it was cold and she still didn't bring clean silverware. Once we got warm food back it was very tasty, rigatoni with meat sauce. read more

Even the inside decor might make you think it's a real diner with real diner food. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was awful, bordering inedible. How do you screw up a turkey club? They did. It looks like they're trying to cut corners and bought a processed turkey roll. Look how thick the slices are on the sandwich. The texture of this processed turkey was awful. They probably use the same stuff on their turkey dinner. The lettuce in both the salad and sandwich was wilting and old. Service was subpar with the waitresses eating their food at the counter. When they ask if you want a refill, check my drink. Less than half full. Weirdest of all, they accept credit cards, but you must leave a tip in cash. I suspect the waitresses aren't getting many. I stopped here yesterday and I really enjoyed it. I had the Monongahela Monster fish sandwich. It was huge and delicious! The sandwich didnt fall apart- they put whatever you want on it and their tartar sauce is homemade and particularly delicious. It has plenty of sweet pickles in it. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love diners. Route 40 is a true classic diner. It's honestly like stepping back in time to the 1950s. Chrome everything, a juke box, and Elvis memorabilia will make you feel like you're in an episode of Happy Days! The menu was pretty extensive and super affordable! They have daily soups, specials, and $5 lunch specials! I got a grilled chicken salad that was loaded with fresh veggies and home made ranch! Yum! The chicken wasn't the most delicious piece of chicken I've ever had, but it was def worth the 8 bucks for a nice size salad. They also sell pizzas and I heard they are good! I can't wait to try one! Brownsville doesn't offer much, but the Route 40 Diner is a winner in my book. read more

The entire meal was inedible that I ended up throwing it away. The fish sandwich which was supposed to be a "monster" according to the menu was a piece of fish on a toasted hot dog bun. The Route 40 Diner is a chrome diner that is everything a diner should be. The ambience is 50s-ish, the booths and stools look the part, and the music is upbeat classic rock. The waitresses are friendly and attentive, and finally, the food is reasonable comfort style food. And you can never go wrong with a breakfast. They even make great poached eggs. Finally, last I saw, the weird life-size stuffed old lady doll is gone from the seat at the counter (unless it has returned, and maybe it will come Halloween). Another improvement is the repaving of the parking lot. All in all, a great place to start any day, or to stop by anytime for a bite to eat. read more

Great food so far so good. I never ate inside the restaurant so I can't comment on the decor or the service, but I ordered take out twice and both times the food was great. I ordered the fish and Mac and cheese meal and cole slaw. My mom ordered the same thing as me and my dad ordered the fish sandwich and French fries. We all really enjoyed our meals and plan to order again on future Fridays. Food was fairly priced as well for the amount of food that you get.
