I've gotten my haircut twice now by Jenna. She listens to what I want and does better than I even expect! She's really friendly as well. Best haircut in a while. I usually go to haircuttery or similar cheap options but I've scheduled her for every 4 weeks and I expect to do so I to perpetuity. I'm balding but she's able to make it look not so bad so much so that I'm under the delusion that it's growing back! Haha. read more

I am so unhappy with my experience with Kevin at Lavender Park. I asked for a trim and for him to cut the bare minimum. As he was cutting, it seemed like he was taking off a lot of length, so I reminded him that I wanted to keep my length. He assured me he wasn't taking off too much. He took off about 4 inches. Having curly hair, it takes so long to grow out and I'm really upset about it. I didn't say anything when I was there because I was on the verge of tears and really didn't want to cry in the middle of the salon. I regret ever coming here. Edit: I called the salon to let them know how I felt. The manager issued a refund and offered to try to fix my hair. I accepted the refund but let her know that I really didn't trust anyone at their salon cutting curly hair. She also said that it seemed like there was a miscommunication. This wasn't the case. When I told Kevin that I only wanted a trim, he reiterated what I said. Our communication was clear as day, he just didn't follow through with what he said he was going to do. read more

For months I have been really hesitant to write a review about this business because the owner treated me so well, but the quality of the color job I received and price I paid for it I feel cannot go unmentioned. On one of my visits to touch up my color I saw a brand new stylist, who did a balayage on me and it looked beautiful. On my next visit, I had requested that my new stylist do the same balayage, only I had requested a lighter, summery blonde (from the darker golden blonde I currently had). I regret this decision so much. She basically bleached my entire head - no highlights, no dimension, just straight bleach. Once the color treatment was done, I did not have the light summery blonde I was looking for. I can only describe my hair as retro 80's yellow blonde mess. I left and was optimistic that maybe it would look better after I styled it, but once I got home it looked even worse under different lighting. I reached out to the salon and asked to come back in and have it fixed. I met with the owner who did some things with toner and lowlights and she was as nice as can be, which is why I feel so bad about writing this review. After the second treatment, my hair was still yellow, the ends were completely dead and I was embarrassed to wear my hair down. I had to have 6 inches cut off at a different salon because the ends were so dead and yellow. I recently got a consultation somewhere else and was completely embarrassed to see how poorly done this color treatment was, even after the second visit with the owner. The consult stylist showed me the back and under parts of my hair and it was embarrassingly bad, blotchy and looked terrible! I had to take pictures for my records. After all was said and done, I paid $180+ for this horrible color at Lavender Park, another $60 at a different salon to remove the damaged hair, $40 for a deep conditioning treatment to try and repair the damage, I've worn my hair in a bun every single day for 3 months, I will end up paying another $150+ to eventually have this color fixed and my hair is still horribly damaged and this whole situation honestly sucked. I do not want to come back to try again for this place to redeem themselves, I will never return here and I've hopefully found a place that can fix this mess once my hair is healthy enough to get color treatment again. read more

I've been going to Lavender Park for the past two years. I highly recommend the salon, and Monique in particular. She's able to use the photos I bring in for inspiration to give me exactly the haircut I'm looking for. She's also incredibly kind and patient: I have obnoxiously thick hair that takes *forever* to dry, and I know stylists must dread seeing me come through the door, but I never feel like Monique is rushing to finish. She takes her time to make sure that I'm happy with the style, and I always am. All of the other salon staff I've interacted with are gracious and helpful, too, and LP's online system makes it extremely easy to set up appointments. read more

Actually considered not leaving a review since it's been a few months since I got my hair done... but it's still bothering me so much that I felt the need to share. Let me start by saying, I do NOT get my hair colored.... like ever. So to be honest I was quite nervous booking the appointment. My hair is naturally blonde, but gets to be a dirty blonde in the winter. I had a cruise coming up so I wanted to try balayage highlights, since I was told they are for a more gradual, natural-looking effect. I was looking to avoid sharp lines as the highlights grew out, so this sounded perfect to me. What I didn't realize that what she was going to do were harsh, bright highlights in my hair that stuck out like a sore thumb. The top layer (thank God) didn't look AS harsh as the under layers, because you can clearly tell she gave up trying to make it look natural. Now every time I part my hair a certain way, I feel sick to my stomach for paying $110+ (not including tip) for hair I really can't stand. I didn't even notice it when I was at the salon, because my hair was still wet since you have to pay extra for drying. Such a rip off, if I wanted harsh lines of blonde in my hair, I would have paid less and just got highlights instead of bayalage. Instead, I paid close to $200 for something not natural looking or well blended. read more

Best hair salon in Lincoln Park/Lakeview!! They offer any and all that you need to get a perfect cut, color, or style, including Olaplex - which should be standard at all salons! All stylists I've observed are professional, yet fun and quirky. I love the relaxed vibe in the salon and I can always count on them to carry my favorite Aveda products. I've had cuts and highlights done by Jenna and just highlights by Monique and have been extremely satisfied with all my visits. Both stylists really listened to what I wanted - unfortunately for them, I'm very particular - and worked with me to achieve exactly what I was looking for. My only complaint....the lighting!!!! To be fair, the stylist that did my haircut was new, so I shouldn't have expected an incredible haircut. I had my first appointment with Alondra yesterday and finally love my hair! I've been trying to get my 2B/2C curly hair back to it's best state. My hair needed a good trim and I told her to cut whatever layers she thought were necessary. She gave me great tips on how to manage my hair and talked about the products she was using without pushing a purchase. Loved that she asked me if I wanted to style my hair natural or blown out. Most places just give you a blow out so I love that I could see my natural hair when I left. This will probably be my regular place moving forward! read more

The only reason for the switch in stylists was due to availability. I was extremely happy with both experiences. The stylists were friendly, personable and gave great cuts. I had a balayage hair a couple months ago in other salon, I did not wanted to come back because it wasn't a the best experience I had. It was the first time that I change my color drastically, it was fine but after a couple of weeks starts to fade and it got so brassy. So I called Lavender Park and I did an appointment with Willa. I can not believe what she did in my hair, is totally awesome and love it. She took the time to listen my concern about my hair, colors, and how to take care after she did an amazing job with my color. The salon is super cozy, all the staff is super friendly. Even if the process for your hair take some time, you will feel super comfortable. I would definitely come back when my hair needs a retouch or for a haircut. I visited this salon on the recommendation of a friend about 2 and 1/2 years ago and was incredibly disappointed with very brassy highlights. This was particularly upsetting after I had explained to the stylist my hesitancy to get highlights somewhere new and that I wanted them to be very subtle and just brighten up my hair. I called back later to inquire about possible remedies and to explain that the stylist had asked if I wanted my hair toned, and I didn't know how to answer so, this was not done. I had talked to my usual stylist (in another state from where I had moved), and she confirmed that she always tones my hair and that it seemed very odd that a stylist would ask this of me. I note that I have never been asked before or since at other salons whether I wanted toner. The salon advised that to tone my hair after the appointment would be an additional cost of about $60, when it would have cost much less during the original appointment. I did not at all appreciate that the salon was not willing to at least charge me the original appointment rate for toner. Further, when I advised that I couldn't afford another appointment that costly and asked for any hair products that might help, they did not give any recommendations. I had to go back to my previous stylist for product recommendations to reduce brassiness. I am still trying to find a salon to do color in Chicago and considered returning to Lavender Park for a second try, but knowing that they are unwilling to work with clients who are unhappy with their results is not something I am comfortable with. I have never before expressed unhappiness to a salon, so to be offered no solutions was very disappointing. I would have gladly paid an additional amount, but to be told that I would have to pay so much more than I would have been charged during the original appointment, particularly when I wasn't offered any consultation as to whether toner was something I should consider and why, seemed unfair. read more

So look, I've been feeling ditched because my two best friends AND my hairdresser have all moved out of state over the past three years. Talk about abandonment issues. My moving stylist referred me to someone else at her salon but when I called for an I-need-good-hair-before-Xmas appointment, she was gone, too! Luckily, I was referred to Jane at Lavender Park and I'm so glad I went with her! She has restored my faith in good hair people. (If she moves I will stalk her...) Jane took time to really listen - listen to me when I came in with my bright blonde hair that had gotten brassy over time. I wanted to tone down the warmth and bring in cool, ashy dark blonde lowlights all over. She understood that blonde is an identity and I didn't want to lose it. (She also laughed at my jokes, so plus one.) I know this cool, TSwift-ish blonde tone is one of THEE HARDEST blondes to achieve, and she seconded that. But, after looking at photo inspo (hello, Pinterest) and talking through things I knew she understood what I wanted. I also have to say she also gave me the best blowout of my life. She really delivered, too. My hair is toned down, the color is stunning, natural looking and soft. No more warm and yellow tones. Ladies, just say no to brassy highlights! As good as it gets. Found out about Katie after Chicago magazine named her "best at men's cuts". Made an appointment at another salon that shall remain nameless, and I have been seeing her ever since--so 7 or so years now. I was happy to follow her and Jane when they opened up their own place here. I will follow/continue to see Katie until she quits, either one of us moves cities, or all my hair falls out. Unfortunately, the smart money is on the last one happening first...but I digress. Things I appreciate about Lavender Park outside of Katie's styling genius: - laid back, unpretentious vibe - modern/minimal decor that has a nice balance of industrial styling and warmth (I especially like the chalkboard wall w/topical drawings) - awesome online appointment scheduling--not just a website, but an app, too (if you're like me and rather crawl over 500 miles of broken glass than make a single phone call) - friendly/helpful staff and great customer service (I once came back because *I* screwed up and second-guessed my own instructions/approval, and the team helpfully squeezed me in same day once I saw the light) - nice, reasonably priced product selection if you need them (never a hard sell) - decent chance at street parking, and only a few blocks away from a couple of Brown Line stations if you don't have a ride - FOCUS (not trying to be a spa with wax hand massages and steam facials and other supposedly "value-adding" tacked-on tangents--it's all about your hair) To my fellow guys: if any of you reading this still has fragile masculinity and is put off by the idea of going to a "salon" with "lavender" in the name and seeing a "stylist" instead of a barber: 1) get over it 2) make an appointment here (they have beer if you want while you wait!) 3) remember that you'd be 100x sillier (and your haircut wouldn't be half as good) if you went to one of those so-called "men's" places like DudeClips or SportCuts or whatever...you don't need the gimmick if you have the quality. I went back for another haircut with Krista and am just as happy as before. She does a great job and she is just such a lovely person. You really feel like you are sitting with a friend. I know it's cheesy but when you're sitting there immobile for an hour, it's nice to feel like you can chat comfortably with your stylist. Curly girls, Krista is it! PS they just started carrying Aveda which is great. If you have dry/damaged hair, the Aveda Damage Remedy shampoo/conditioner is LIFE CHANGING. My hair is like night and day. I discovered Lavender Park, and stylist Krista Burke in particular, via Yelp and came back to add my own praises. All of the positive reviews are legit! Last year I had been searching for a stylist who specialized in curly hair. After being a straight-haired gal my entire life, I found myself in a temporarily curly-haired situation following chemo treatment. How to deal with fine curls?! Krista to the rescue. She gave me a great cut, but more importantly taught me how to properly style my hair to maximize volume without having crunchy gel head. It was truly a game changer for how I viewed my hair at that point. Fast forward 12 months and I am now back to straight hair, but Krista is still knocking it out of the (lavender) park (hey-o!) with stylish, trendy cuts. Have received a ton of compliments since my latest appointment this weekend. And Lavender Park salon itself is a great, clean space with excellent staff. My wife has Curly hair and if you do you'll know it takes real talent to be able to cut & style curly hair and Krist does curly better than supposed curly specialists. I 'm always happy when my wife goes to see Krista 1) because she'll get a great cut and she will feel great. 2) because she come home looking even more beautiful that she already is ( yes I am biased here and 3) Krista is just so fun that you always have good time in her chair. If you don't have curly hair or are a guy and want to go to a place that cuts mens styles- come to Lavender Park and see Krista. I have a wicked colic and Krista cuts so the colic is tamed and I like the cut. She is also great at giving my beard/mustache a nice shape. I've done the whole gamut from Hair Cuttery to Truefit & Hill. And while both places are good for what you pay for Krista provides a great mens cut for about $40. The place is new , its nice , simple , clean. The chalkboard wall on the back of the salon always has a new message everytime I come. Fun. Yes you can get a water, tea, coffee with your style if that's important to you. Personally, I like to like the person I'm working with. Krista has a great personality. If you are into tats and the occasional piercing cool she's your gal. If not, don't let that stop you. She is self admittedly doing what sje LOVES to do. Cut and style hair. Lavender Park Salon is great! I followed Krista there because I couldn't ever trust anyone else with my hair - she is a wizard! When I got bored with my shoulder-length hair, I told her that I trusted her and she could do whatever she wanted. I now have an amazing cut that's perfect for me - a chin-length bob and straight bangs (which I thought I would never ever do). Plus she's very sweet and fun to talk to. The salon itself is lovely too - very clean, never crowded, the owners are friendly, and their receptionist always offers you a drink when you come in. I rarely write reviews but I really wasn't thrilled with my hair coloring experience at Lavender Park. While my stylist couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating through the long process, the result was not what I had shown pictures of or expected at all. I requested a balayage look and ultimately my hair just came out slightly lighter overall. Not a disaster by any means, but absolutely not worth it for the over $250 that it added up to. Wouldn't recommend, but if you go - just beware of the pricing, I didn't receive a heads up during my appointment of what she was doing (since it had changed from what I originally asked for) or how much it would cost additionally- and it really added up! Just not worth it for me and unfortunately won't be back. read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Crystal since 9/2015. I was very nervous going to a new salon after moving to the neighborhood, but Lavendar Park has exceeded my expectations. Crystal is awesome - very friendly, and she does a great job listening to what you want your haircut to look like and following through on it. As many people with curly hair can attest, getting a haircut is always a terrifying experience. Thankfully, I went for the first time yesterday, and had Alondra. The experience was wonderful. I described some of the issues I was having with my hair (curl pattern being pulled straight due to weight of long hair) and she worked her magic. I went for my first appointment at Lavender Park yesterday as I was recommended by a friend. I cannot say enough how much I recommend the salon and my stylist - Jenna P! You must ask for her! She listened intently to exactly what I wanted and asked a lot of clarifying questions to make sure she was going to give me the end result I wanted. I have hair extensions, so it was also important to me that the color matched. My roots were way overdue and Jenna made me feel and look like a supermodel when I walked out! The process was much shorter than what I am used to and the products she used I am also obsessed with- they all smelled amazing and made my hair today feel like a million bucks. She cut my hair as well and I've never seen somebody be so efficient in cutting my hair and making sure she did the best job possible. While she was styling and cutting my hair, she let me in on a few tips and tricks to get the same look at home. I started going to Krista back when my long-time stylist stopped doing hair to open a Brazilian restaurant. (Side note: His restaurant, the Brazilian Bowl, is awesome!) Anyway, I needed a good stylist for my curly hair and took a chance on Krista. She's amazing! We've been together through two salons and countless hair triumphs--short hair, long hair, purple hair, ombre--we've tried it all! It's been fun, and I always look great. Oh, and she trimmed my fella's hair last month when his usual stylist wasn't available--he looked handsome, too. One important note: she's a great listener when it comes to hair concerns. She's able to give good advice on styling and general hair health, and although she'll take a chance if you ask her to, she will always be honest if she thinks you're about to make a mistake! She said she went to Lavender Park and I immediately made an appointment for a color and short cut with the owner: Jane. She listened to my initial thoughts before mixing up colors and providing recommendations on styling. Fully trusting in her paid off, as she did a beautiful, natural Balayage and a sleek cut. To this day one of the best colors and styles I've ever had. Period.
