I finally went to this bakery recently. I was going to get a croissant when I saw the burnt almond cake. I wanted something sweet but I was worried it might be too sweet. I asked the server what the cream was made of, and she patiently said it was made of a pistachio cream. I was sold and bought a piece. I liked it a lot, but it did taste a bit like it has been out for a bit. There was a bit of an aftertaste of being in the fridge, but it was creamy and had enough sweetness. (I do like sweets, I just prefer it not to be the overwhelming flavor like cream). It was a cute shop in the corner and would go again if I'm craving a bit of french bakery.

I ordered a lion design cake from here. Design was beautiful. It was right in their website. 8 inch was the minimum size for this design and it cost $220. I went for the chocolate cake and chocolate filling. It was rich and dense and extremely chocolatey. I had difficulty to eat beyond a single serving. It was 15 serving cake. I thought they added a bit too much of artificial color, especiallly the blue. I had difficulty to get rid of the blue from my hand. I had to was a couple of times and wipe with tissue.

Lavender Bakery has been one of my favorite bakeries (to die for cheesecake and pies) and I wanted to try their custom cakes for my in-laws' 50th anniversary party. They offered a complimentary cake tasting box which I thoroughly enjoyed and decided on marble cake with chocolate hazelnut ganache. Moist, flavorful and not too sweet. I had submitted some inspo cake pics and they did an amazing job! The cake was beautiful with the requested gold and blue with gold flecks. The Cal Bruin wedding bears they made were so cute and memorable. Truly a remarkable bakery with talented cake decorators. My FIL loved it so much he put the cake photo as his phone wallpaper!

This was the absolute best cake I could have gotten for my son's birthday! I ordered pretty last minute (about 1 week) for a custom cake, however they absolutely NAILED IT!! They were incredibly helpful and the attention to detail on the cake was amazing! It was also super delicious!! I would absolutely order from here again, they did a great job. Thank you so much

Chaussons (Danishes)-Apple Turnover and Lemon Bar

This is the sister bakery to Butter Sugar Flour in Sunnyvale. First time visiting the Berkeley location with bright and larger interior with inviting display of sweet treats. My favorite items are the Mexican Wedding Cookies (called Tea cookies at Butter Sugar Flour). Buttery and melt in your mouth with chopped pecans. Also bought a lemon bar which was a tad too sweet for me but the crust is a nice shortbread. Uncle liked the apple danish but mentioned it was more apple jam vs chunks of cooked apple within. Pricing very reasonable Service friendly and welcoming. Located on the corner of upper Solano (The Alameda) and Colusa near Andronico's Market. Metered street parking available

Def been a while since I was last on Solano Ave in Berkeley but heard good things about this bakery and was in the area so why not. Coming from SF with some of the best bakeries in the bay....cant compare. Tried their Oreo cheesecake, the apple tart, the pistachio Turkish delight , plain croissant and carrot Cupcake. The apple tart with almost paste was delightful, the Turkish delight was good but only in small portions as it's quite dense and the carrot cupcake was moist and delicious! Those were the standouts. The others were meh.

Beautiful cakes and pastries. Viennoiserie is casual - croissants are not the super tall layered beasts you see often in the bay, but are buttery and delicious. Savory scone was an unexpected hit - soft and tender. Eclair is well made, but at least for the pistachio, flavoring is only in the icing, cream filling is standard.

5 stars! Lavender Bakery made our three-tier wedding cake and it was absolute perfection. They brought my vision to life and exceeded my expectations. We had lemon cake with lemon buttercream and red velvet with cream cheese filling, and both were incredible. We received so many compliments from our guests! Delivery was on time and everything was seamless. Highly recommend. I can't wait to order my next cake!

Aesthetic spot on a wholesome small town-esque street. As I walked inside I was absolutely astounded by the pastry and cake options. I initially heard that they have plenty of inside seating to work but was disappointed to see that they removed all of their seats and tables. I opted to get an almond croissant and a cappuccino which unfortunately did not live up to my expectations. The croissant was stale (I bought it at 10am) and the cappuccino tasted burnt. I've heard great thing about this place in the past, I hope this was just a fluke.

Came here on a Friday afternoon and got lucky and snatched the last two personal size burnt almond cake! Pro tip: you can order a lot of their cakes and pastries ahead of time on their website (at least day in advanced) if you do not want to risk coming in only to find what you wanted has sold out. This bakery serves a variety of cakes and desserts as well as coffees and teas. I've had their napoleon cake here before as well and it's divine but nothing can beat their burnt almond cake! The burnt almond cake has a strong a natural almond taste and not that artificial almond flavor you can find at other bakeries. The cake itself is very rich and moist. The fresh whipped cream frosting and the toasted almonds on the outside adds a very nice complexity and texture to the cake. The staff here are very friendly and will answer all your questions. The inside of the cafe does not have seating but there are a few tables outside. Parking here is mostly metered street parking but they do have a small parking lot as well. Overall a solid bakery and I will always recommend coming here if you're in town.

The bakery is fronted with large plate glass windows. There were a couple of occupied tables outside as well as some tables with benches and chairs inside. The interior is bright and airy. The display cases are full of beautiful cakes, pastries and cookies. It would be very easy to over order because everything looks so delectable. Somehow, I managed to keep my order down to six items but only because they were out of the one thing that I really stopped by for, a Leek Bistro, known at other bakeries as a Leek & Parmesan Croissant. Guess it just gives me another excuse to drop by! Service was terrific. I told the clerk that I would be getting a few items so she placed each on a tray until I finished ordering. That made it a lot easier for her to determine what size box to give me.

Bought from this place so many times but somehow only got one photos :( tried different cheesecakes & chocolate cakes - never disappointed! They have a wide range of selection to choose from - definitely worth the money! The store is spacious but has no seating. The staffs were really nice though!

A nice selection of carefully made baked goods. Traffic in the area is heavy but it is worth the effort to shop here.

There are a lot of options on their menu to choose from; sandwiches, bagels, smoothies, teas, pastries, lattes, etc. I got the cream cheese bagel which came with arugula, avocado, and strawberries on the side. The menu states it comes with cucumbers, but mine didn't have any. It was only $7 and filled me up right away! I ordered the iced horchata latte; it didn't taste much like horchata, but it was still good! Sweet and cinnamony! I also grabbed some empanadas to take home to heat up myself (they also offered to heat it for me too). I got the jalapeño hatch chicken and the potato curry empanadas. Both were very filling and delicious! My favorite was jalapeño hatch chicken! The outside of the empanada was crispy and had a subtle sweetness to it, while the filling was creamy and cheesy! I will definitely be returning and trying their other items.

Well, I'd like to submit this compact El Cerrito spot for consideration based on their signature sammie. Nobody told me to come here. It showed up on my Yelp app search page, so hey, their algorithms do work...sometimes. The shop is across the street from the El Cerrito Plaza shopping center, and it's just as close to the BART station. Initially I was a bit confused because the interior was set up like a living room, and there were clothing and gift items for purchase (Photo 3). However, the deli portion came into view with a big display case, and then I noticed their food and beverage menus. Sight unseen, I ordered the $5.50 Iced Ube Latte because ube's my jam. It was quite a deal for the size. Topped with rose petals, it featured the zing of an espresso shot (Photo 9). A truly refreshing libation. They offer a nice variety of lunch items like avocado toast and Thai sticky rice, but I was most interested in the $14 Up Beet Sandwich. I asked because there was no description. It turned out to be a delectable mix of beets, avocado, arugula, honey mustard, and turkey. The sandwich looked appetizing with unexpected elements. Accompanied by plantain chips, the thick turkey slabs came in a toasted onion deli roll from Acme Bakery (Photo 10). Yep, Top 100. J'en ai l'eau à la bouche. ‍‍---------------------- The lovely, gorgeous, succulent, divine pastries are showcased behind glass as if displayed in a museum or fine jewelry retailer. Flour, water, and fruit jewels painstakingly prepared and crafted like sculpture. It should almost be a crime to stick your fork in them! The shop is always very clean and has the whole French vibe going on with the decorations, etc. Café Parisian is run by a pair of twins from Paris: HOCINE and AHCE. "Les rois de la boulangerie" I believe they share duties at their other shoppe in Paris and rotate locations from time to time. Even if you're not hungry, it's worth a trip to stop in to say bonjour and of course grab a box of pastries to go! It is indeed a joy to speak with them and today Hocine was attending the front counter. He genuinely is a very friendly man with a quick wit and a humorous personality. The service is second to none and a rarity in many places these days. Like a Traiteur HOCINE is catering to your every need and explaining anything that you need to know. If you ask what ingredients are in something he will lay it all out in a succinct manner. I was just taking a peek to see what was new because I haven't been in there for a minute and I just had a lousy empanada (from a tree that bears fruit) down the street that was close to being inedible! I was thinking about having a burrito up the road a bit until we started chatting and I just couldn't leave without having lunch. I opted for this "round sandwich" or savory pastry stuffed with many vegetables including mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and more. A large portion and truly magnificent. It was cut into to four pieces, served with some nice hot sauce packets and could've been shared. My lunch partner had a similar sandwich, but his was with chicken. His assessment? "SUBLIME". Well, Mr. HOCINE lives up to the origin of his name, which can translate to pride and identity. Also, somewhere not really lost in translation is also "good" and "handsome", but I wouldn't say that because it might go to his head! ------------------------------ Merci pour ce délicieux repas, votre excellent service, vos connaissances, la présentation soignée et votre personnalité remarquable.

From end to end, it has that perfectly crunchy exterior, and not a hollow bite in sight. Every bite is flaky, buttery, and satisfying. Chocolate Croissant -- A must if you love chocolate. Rich, flaky, and indulgent. Almond Croissant -- Another delicious contender. Nutty, sweet, and absolutely worth it. Apricot Croissant -- Not bad at all. The apricot adds a nice touch without overpowering the pastry. Bostock -- This one was a miss for me. It looked beautiful, but it was missing that little finesse that makes you want another bite. Gâteau au Fromage (Basque Cheesecake) -- A bit pricey, but so worth the splurge because they really know how to nail it. One bite and you won't be able to stop until it's gone. A hidden gem that delivers big on flavor without the long drive. Definitely worth the visit!
