From the time I parked in the charming downtown to the time I entered into Laura's, it was truly magical. The customer service was top notch, I mean seriously I have never had customer service so good. And the food??? YUM YUM YUM! Literally everything I had was amazing. They start you out with a lemonade and a pot of tea of their choosing, then you can pick your second pot of your choice. They then bring out one dish at a time until you receive your last portion which is the tiered tray of goodies. This place is perfect for a solo adventure, girls day, bday celebrations, anniversaries etc. they have a vast selection of tea hats you can borrow to enhance your experience if you didn't already come dressed for the occasion. You even get to pick out our own tea cup before being seated. Once seated a young lady came by with a porcelain filled pitcher of hot water to rinse your tea cup out. They have a cafe downstairs if you don't want to do the tea experience but whatever experience you choose you cannot leave without looking over their vast selection of teas you can purchase. I live in Ridgeway, so I've been here in other occasions - always to the downstairs cafe. We decided to have a special Friday upstairs. It was fantastic. Lauras Tea Room is a delightful place. A deli downstairs with seating and a TV. Upstairs is the "tea room" with walls full of hats. There is a lovely gift shop downstairs as well. We had 1:45 reservations for the tea room and were seated promptly. Our table was decorated nicely and we were greeted by friendly staff. The staff made our experience one I will never forget. I have been looking for a place that offers high tea for quite some time. Laura's Tea Room came up on my Facebook feed randomly. This happened to be the same place that my mother-in-law's late sister would go by all the time when they were in town. So to take my MIL meant the world to me because she's been struggling to deal with her lost a few months ago. We had a blast. A wonderful escape from the city into this hallmark like town. The street is so quaint and has some cute shops but Laura's is the jewel! It is a mercantile from the 1800s and is gorgeous with its creaky hardwood floors and amazing countertop lining the walls! Service is excellent with super friendly staff. You get to choose a seat at one of their eclectic tables with charming mismatched painted chairs. Or for special occasions dine upstairs with your group and gussy up by choosing a fancy hat to wear. The menu has dozens of tea flavors and you can choose a small or large pot. The almond coconut macaroon tea was scrumptious and you get to pick your own tea cup of the shelf. They have a nice variety of sandwiches and salads. The Cuban sandwich was delicious and the dessert selection is excellent. The lemon cupcake is delicious! So Sharon S., her friend (Charlene), & me headed out on Saturday to check out Laura's Tea Room, because they had purchased a steeply discounted LivingSocial deal. Because it was on a Saturday, Charlene had made reservations for us. We were running late due to traffic, but Charlene called & spoke to someone who very nicely told us to keep driving & they would make accommodations for us when we got there. While we did arrive 45 minutes late, they did indeed still have us down. While we waited for them to set our table, we checked out the deli & retail area on the first floor. What a cute place! They have teas & "knick knacks" you can purchase. On the second floor, is the "hat area", where you can pick out a hat to wear (during tea) & get your picture taken with Queen Elizabeth (a cardboard cutout)! Next, you have several tables full of tea cups & saucers...you get to pick your own cup! So many choices, too. After choosing your tea cup, the hostess escorted us to our table, which was already set with place settings. A waitress comes out & serves a flavored ice tea, which obviously changes daily (?). On this particular Saturday, it was cinnamon-orange. The waitress brought out a hot tea - which was cinnamon-orange, as well. It was DELICIOUS! We also got to choose a second pot, from a LONG list of black, white, & herbal teas. We chose a blackberry sage, which was lovely, too. For the first course, you get a predetermined soup & scone. Ours was an apple bisque cold soup, which tasted much like a pureed apple pie. The blueberry scone was small, but packed a lot of flavor. Second course was a mixed berry & walnut salad, with a spinach & cheese quiche. The salad was delicious, especially with the vidalia onion dressing. The quiche was just "ok", mine could have been a bit warmer. For third & final course, was a three tiered tray of finger sandwiches (tomato & cucumber) & mini desserts (chocolate covered mandarin oranges, mini mousse cup with raspberry, banana nut loaf with Granny Smith apple slice & cheddar cheese slice, mini pumpkin cupcake, mini fudge cupcake, chocolate covered strawberries, & cinnamon swirl bread with a cranberry on top). We were filling quite full by this time, so thankfully, they have "to go" containers. We piled up our "leftover" desserts. Our waitress Sara was a sweetheart. She was very nice & pleasant & answered the questions we had about the town & the tea room. Ladies, this is so much fun! Another lovely time at Laura's Tea Room! I spent a wonderful afternoon with mom and 2 of my aunts walking around Ridgeway and completed our trip with High Tea at Laura's. This is my 4th time having High Tea and it has never disappointed! The tea room was still decorated for the holidays (they had the most beautiful Christmas tree in the tea room decorated with tea cups) and we got to enjoy the Christmas menu. The scone, with lemon curd and Devonshire cream, was awesome and the tomato bisque was scrumptious! The tower of treats (the tired tray with the savories and sweets) was as impressive, and tasty, as always! Both of my aunts, neither of which were really a fan of hot tea, loved the experience and would love to return. Just a note: I had read a previous review on this site that stated that Laura's does not accept debit/credit cards but that is not the case. Though they do have a small sign at the register that says that, being a small business they do prefer cash or check, they do accept cards. This place is one of the most fun places ever. My sister and I took my mom there for her birthday. I didn't have any desire to go since I'm not a big tea drinker. Once I got there, I was the first one to pick out a hat. Then we all posed to get our picture taken with the Queen Elizabeth cardboard cutout. We had a blast just trying on all the hats. Next we had to pick out a cup and saucer. That was hard.... So many beautiful ones to choose from. The service was excellent and the food was amazing!!! I enjoyed all the teas they served. I actually loved 2 of them (a black tea and a green tea). I ended up buying them and a lot of other tea items in their gift shop downstairs. I even bought some Christmas gifts also. This place is a one of a kind unique place... (Experience). I enjoyed it very much. It was a nice relaxing afternoon. We will definitely take my mom again next year. My family has a yearly Christmas season tradition of going out to tea together but now that we are all scattered across the globe we often have to search for tea rooms in unfamiliar cities. We have been to some great ones but this is by far the best experience we have ever had. The food was delicious and filled us up. The tea selection was huge. I also loved the atmosphere. Getting go pick a hat, take a picture with Queen Elizabeth, and pick your own teacup really adds to the whimsicality of the experience and made this year's outing particularly memorable. Their British High Tea is fun but quite pricey! We've visited several times over the last few years and each time the price has been a few dollars more than the previous visit. The food and the presentation are very nice. Just be sure you bring cash as they do not accept debit or credit, which seems ridiculous considering the price ($32 pp before tip) and the fact that this is 2018. Also, be aware that there is only one bathroom (one seat) to serve both the tea room and the deli, so be prepared to wait in line. Before you are shown to your table, you are asked to wait on the mezzanine where you can try on hats to wear at the table. However, these are used hats and it doesn't seem hygienic to share hats with multiple strangers so we skipped that activity. read more
