An Okay Burger but really good fries
    Michael D.

If you take a look at my reviews you should appreciate that I rarely post poor reviews and I try to be kind and appropriate when I do. I was unimpressed with Last Frontier Our Server was great, attentive and friendly. We misunderstood the option for a margarita and didn't realize the restaurant only served beer and wine so the margarita was a wine based drink and not our favorite (our fault) My wife ordered a glass of Zin, as in Zinfandel, and received a white Zin that was a little too sweet for our palate and was "turning" as in, vinegar, it was going bad. I ordered a beer, a house Amber. It had a burnt aftertaste The Burgers weren't bad, not great. The Fries were actually really good. The environment relaxed, family friendly. The portions are huge. Many years ago I recall the Pizza being good. This place is a local landmark. A favorite for many in the Valley. I recommend you try it for yourself. Be aware that the mixed drinks are not liquor but wine based, and maybe ask to sample a beer before ordering a pint.

Service was excellent. The elk burger was the star of our meal. They have good lunch specials and the bread is very soft. We really liked the grub stake stout

Overall a "pretty dang good" experience. The restaurant atmosphere has the nostalgic feel of a log cabin; very open floor plan. The food is mixed on a scale from "meh" to "spectacular" depending on what you order. *Highly* recommend the in-house cream soda (it won my heart!). Even though there was one waitress on a busy Sunday rush, the service was consistent and attentive. Job well done! We'll be coming back.

The food here is terrible. $25 dollars for frozen French fries and a dried out burger. Potato skins dry and greasy. Both beers I tried were sub par IPA's. The atmosphere is dead. Just 4 or 5 dusty old regulars at noon on a Friday for lunch. No music. It gave off hospital cafeteria vibes. It felt like everyone was listening to my conversation. It was kind of creepy. The bartender was super rude and not very attentive. The bear Paw across the street is a much better choice on all levels.

The server we had was so sweet and funny. Best part of the date! Loved the salad as well :)

Wanted some chowder and a beer and tried this place out. The chowder was good but came out 20 minutes later than my friend food. The clams in wine sauce was good but over priced. My friend got the fish and chips and was disappointed about the amount of breading around the fish. My wife liked the grilled halibut she had and a friend liked his burger. The craft beer that they brew is nothing great but drinkable. In all it's not a bad place but it also not great either.

Alaskan crab and spinach dip was the best thing we had $18

I am giving them 3 stars instead of 2 because the waitress was really nice. She tried her best to be attentive with us. The food and prices are definitely not it. The spinach and crab dip was the only thing that was good that I tried. The halibut and chips which are $27 was not worth it at all. The fries were overcooked and the fish was dry. The pizza was nothing special. I think this spot is more for having drinks than eating. Unless I ordered the wrong things or it was just a bad day for the cook I'm not sure. It was really expensive too.

Ample parking, easy access, and the kind of brewery where you feel welcome whether you're a lifelong Alaskan or just passing through. Pro tip: Arrive with an appetite and an open mind. Get a sampler flight of the beers, ask the bartender what's new or seasonal, and don't hesitate to pair it with something from the kitchen--this one's worth the stop. All told: If craft beer is part of your travel plan (or if you simply want a great local spot for food & drink), Matanuska Brewing Company in Palmer should be high on your list. Cheers to that!

Mantanuska Brewery is the latest brewery I got to try for the first time and it was an enjoyable first time experience. Steve and I got one beer from this brewery on two separate occasions and I liked it both times. The Deep Powder Porter was the name of the beer we had. What I liked about this beer was that it was very smooth which made it an easy one to drink. There is a malty sweetness going on here with roasty, caramel and cocoa flavors. Untappd had the beet as a feature with this beer as "brilliant " and I can see that going on with this porter but I might call it "alive" as this porter wasn't a dull one at all to drink but instead it was a fun one.

Their lager was outstanding and the Hefe was very good. Service was awesome. So a guy walks by with a cheesesteak. Smelled great. I said where did you get that ? He says the food truck on the side of the building. He added that it was the best he has ever had. Being from Philly, I was skeptical. So on the way out, my wife and I decide to give it a try. We order, and I say to the owner, you know, the key to a Philly cheesesteak is the Amaroso rolls. He pulls down the bag if rolls, and they are Amaroso rolls. I'm stunned. Never thought I would see this in Alaska. I just finished my cheesesteak 5 minutes ago. Run to Odd Man Rush brewery and have a beer and a cheesesteak. Mammoth Cheesesteak Co. is only there on Thursdays and Fridays. I'll be there tomorrow.
