I went for LASIK consultation and they would not even go as far as to dilate my eyes. I saw a doctor (one of six or eight on the banner, no Sonny Goel here) long enough for him to shake my hand and show my the door. He said to check back when the technology improved. I would have greatly appreciated an explanation and perhaps 6 seconds to tell me to check elsewhere. As it turned out, I was an excellent candidate for LASIK and had the surgery performed just over 6 weeks ago. What they don't tell you is that, for some prescriptions, their middle of the road treatment and equipment can't handle it. I didn't have to wait for the technology to improve, I just had to go where they had the technology and experience less than a mile away. I almost lost out on my wonderful LASIK experience because they told me I could not be treated. LasikPlus is only about lining their pockets. No customer service. No concern for those they can't make money on. read more

I had my LASIK procedure performed by Dr. Sonny Goel about 3 weeks ago. I was a contact lens wearer for over 10 years and had moderate myopia with astigmatism. I chose LasikPlus of Baltimore after having consults at 4 different locations in the Baltimore/DC area (Hopkins, EDOW, Kameen, LasikPlus). Needless to say, I did my fair share of research about the procedure and wanted the absolute best (not the cheapest) surgeon I could find. My initial consult was performed by Dr. Gonzales (optometrist). He was courteous and knowledgeable about the procedure, and I felt like the consult was thorough to really ensure that I was an appropriate candidate for LASIK. Afterwards, I met with Dr. Goel who went through all my scans with me in detail, took as much time as I needed to answer all of my questions and concerns, and explained the LASIK procedure (including which laser(s) I would be treated on and why) in great detail. He was very friendly and professional (exceptional bedside manner), and I felt like even though he performs procedures every day that my eyes are unique and would be treated with the highest level of care. He has now performed over 70,000 procedures, and this level of experience and knowledge really shows when he's explaining everything. When I walked out of this appointment, I felt excited and confident that Dr. Goel is the best LASIK surgeon I could find. The day of my procedure I don't think I could have been any more nervous. My scans were repeated again, I signed the consent forms, and I received post-op and follow up instructions. The 1 valium I took didn't seem to ease my anxiety at all. Dr. Goel then explained what the procedure would entail from start to finish, and he could tell that I was really nervous. He did a great job at making me as comfortable as possible, and then we went into the surgical room. First, he placed a suction over my eye and made the flaps using the Intralase laser. Next, he lifted the flaps and then used the VISX laser (Custom Vue) to reshape my cornea. Finally, he put the flaps back in place and smoothed them out. Dr. Goel coached me through the procedure every step of the way, making sure I was doing okay and telling me exactly what was happening and what would happen next. Right after the procedure, I put on some sunglasses and went home to take a long nap. I woke up to find that I had missed phone calls from both the LasikPlus staff and Dr. Goel himself to make sure that I was doing okay and to ask if I had any questions. Right after surgery, my left eye felt great and my right eye had a burning/watering sensation. My vision measured at 20/25 in my left eye and 20/30 in my right eye the morning after my surgery (20/25 both eyes together). My right eye continued to feel dry/burn for about a week. This made me nervous, and I was able to get a same-day appointment to have it checked out. Everything looked fine (flap was good, no infection), and I was instructed to use the lubricating drops as much as possible. About 2 weeks after my surgery, both of my eyes felt great and I could see more clearly! My vision was 20/20 in my left eye and 20/25 in my right eye, but the staff have told me that it is normal for vision to continue improving for months following the surgery. I have halos/starbursts at night, but it's nothing that affects my night driving and I've been told that this will also likely improve with time. I have seen all 3 optometrists (Dr. Tham, Dr. Gonzales, Dr. K) and feel that the quality of care I received was consistent. One additional advantage of LasikPlus is the lifetime warranty - if my vision doesn't reach stable 20/20 or if my vision regresses with time, I will be able to have an enhancement procedure at no cost. Overall, I could not be happier to have chosen Dr. Goel and the LasikPlus team for my laser vision correction. Dr. Goel and his team gave me the gift of sight - there is no better gift in this entire world. I can see clearly now without glasses or contacts, and while I didn't have vision insurance coverage to help with the cost, it was absolutely worth every penny ($3,280 total). I enjoy the office setting at Lasik Plus, and the doctors are very professional. However, I thought the staff did not provide the best customer service considering I was a potential client. Krystal had such a poor attitude and unfriendly demeanor that I didn't bother to ask many questions. Maybe she was having a bad day and couldn't mask it in any case poor unfriendly service. I didn't get surgery myself, but I took my friend to get PRK done there. The staff was extremely sweet and friendly! I was shocked when they told me I could watch the procedure- I could see close-up view on a TV in the waiting room, and the procedure room is separated by glass so I could watch through there. Although my friend's recovery was much more painful than anticipated, I was able to get in touch with Dr. Goel for help after hours. We were both very happy with this office and would highly recommend it. read more

My evaluation appointment was at 10:20 and I was gone by 11:30. I went to LVI in Towson and the same evaluation took almost 3 hours. This place had an excellent waiting room, the people are excellent and friendly, and the prices were much cheaper. I haven't gotten the surgery yet but it is scheduled here because this place seems like a great place to get it done! read more

I had the procedure done 3 days ago and my life has already changed for the better! Dr. Goel (surgeon) and Dr. Tham (othometrist) both have phenomenal bedside manner. All of the technicians are pleasant and friendly. No test was performed, eye drop put in, or flap made without an explanation first. They walked you through the whole procedure from consultation to follow up appointments. I wish this practice did more than just LASIK because I would go back to them for all of my medical needs. I had an unsatisfactory outcome from Lasik with dry eye and vision aberrations. However, that is not why I gave Lasikplus 1 star. They are getting 1 star because of a lack of patient education prior to the surgery and inability to provide adequate follow-up care if issues arise. Lasik is a surgery and should be treated that way with proper and careful patient consult and education but it is treated at LasikPlus like a product moving through an assembly line. On the positive side, the staff is courteous and they are good about seeing you for follow-up appointments although they absolutely can not help you so the follow-ups are useless. Dr. Goel has a good reputation in the community and is a caring doctor, he unfortunately works for Lasikplus and therefore lacks a full service staff to assist with proper after care because that is not part of their business model. Here are details: 1. Lack of Patient Education: Lasikplus purposefully provides very basic information about lasik to push you through the process with minimal obstacles. Here are a few examples: the lasers will not be explained to you unless you probe them with questions if you even know what to ask. In my case they told me that I was getting a custom laser but instead used a different laser during the surgery and then later explained that they don't feel the need to educate their patients on the technical details. The laser handbook is supposed to be provided to you before surgery - you will not be given this; Lasikplus will not spend any personalized time consulting with you on your desired outcome e.g. maybe you want to be left a little nearsighted - if you think you want something different than the assembly line then you have to figure that out on your own, you will not be provided with alternatives or ideas; alternatives like contact lenses and glasses are not discussed but are supposed to be - if you like contacts or glasses you should not get lasik - lasik is for people who are dissatisfied with contacts or glasses as the vision might not be comparable but Lasikplus will avoid having this conversation with you, flap healing - the flap never heals, but they will tell you the newer thin flaps do heal to win your business and how the military allows lasik now because of this, There is a potential for permanent problems like dry eye and starbursts/halos around lights which can be forever and are not curable but Lasikplus will tell you that these things are temporary and go away in 3 months, Lasikplus has an inability to diagnose dry eye prior to surgery due to antiquated tests plus there is a sense of a willingness to perform surgery even in the face of finding dry eye symptoms. Induced astigmatism can occur but will not be mentioned during your consult, over-correction can occur but they will not tell you about it - they will talk of under-correction which is not a bad problem, and nerve damage does occur in every patient caused by the laser but is not mentioned. 2. Follow-up Care. In addition, the facility is designed only for surgery and therefore lacks the ability and equipment to diagnose and correct problems caused by the laser. Basically, they will laser your eyes, and if you have less than a perfect outcome they can not help you because they are only a surgical center, there is no ability or expertise for follow-up care. The doctors know how to refract your eyes and operate the laser equipment. They do not know how to help you if the laser gives you an astigmatism, dry eyes, or visual aberrations. It seems as though they do not care about the quality of your vision - they will only try to get you to read the 20/20 line on an eye chart, even if its blurry to you, they will mark you as a success. If you are gung-ho about lasik because you hate your contacts or glasses, make sure to investigate with at least 3 places before making your decision who are experts in corneas and dry eye. If I had a 're-do', I would have gotten some more opinions. If you can find a place with experienced doctors, up to date equipment, and follow-up care capabilities that would be your ideal place to go. Lasikplus has experienced doctors and seemingly modern equipment, but they will not educate you properly upfront or consider your individual needs, and can not provide proper care if something does not go as you hoped. Also, be sure not to get over-corrected if you are nearsighted. Farsight is worse than nearsight - imagine not being able to see your food! read more

I went to LasikPlus because I was referred there by 3 of my colleages who had Lasik performed by Dr. Goel. I found Dr. Goel and Dr. Tham to be exactly as they had described, great bedside manner, soft-spoken, knowledgeable and willing to answer any and all questions. I was told that I was not a candidate for Lasik secondary to my corneas are too thin, so I had prk done at LasikPlus Towson 2 weeks ago. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Goel performing the prk. I've found that it is not the choice procedure for laser vision correction and that particular office sees about 25% prk patients. I have to say I am very disattisfied with the office staff at LasikPlus Towson. I have found out since my procedure that the office staff has very little knowledge about prk patients and that they continue to try to schedule me like a Lasik patient, even though I tell them over and over again that I had prk. I had 2 appts. scheduled for followup even before I had the procedure done, which were following the lasik schedule, not the prk schedule. They have asked me multiple times why I missed my appts and I have to explain to them each time that I had to cancel those appts and reschedule because they are for lasik patients. I had my followup visit 5 days after prk and waited about an hour in the office because my chart was lost and still not found. Dr. Tham was more than apologetic and was gracious enough to offer some complimentary eye drops for my wasted time. I then tried to schedule my 2nd post op visit and the secretary had no idea when I needed to come back, so she got a "medical person" on the phone who still had no idea when to schedule me until I said "does a month sound correct" and she said "yeah, I guess so". She then didn't know if it was a month from the procedure date or from the last follow up. They tell you if you do not follow up as recommended then you will void your lifetime warranty. I would suggest if you require patients to stick to a certain schedule with post op visits then you should educate your staff on the procedures that you perform. Its as easy as putting a lasik vs prk chart by the phone so the secretary knows when patients need followup. Would I recommend Dr. Goel and LasikPlus to friends and family? Yes, but I would be very cautious if you are a prk patient because you are running your own show!!!! read more

Fantastic experience! LasikPlus made me feel at ease. My eyesight is fairly bad at -5.50. I have been wearing glasses from the 3rd grade until my late 20s. Once my eye dr. noted my prescription had been stable for two years, I jumped and made a consult appt for Lasik. Everyone in my office has gone to see Dr. Sonny with amazing reviews. So naturally, I made the consult with him to begin. They ran some tests and screenings and determined I was a candidate for the procedure. The staff was great and answered all my questions. I made my appt for 1/25/2016. Dr. Sonny was amazing and very warm and welcoming. The morning of my Lasik procedure I had some additional screenings and he walked me through the process. In the glass room, he talked to me the entire time to let me know how much more time or what point we were at in the process. This helped me immensely! I have anxiety so talking to me and letting me know how much more time really helped put me at ease. I love knowing that we are half-way through or 20 more seconds on this eye. The whole procedure was very quick maybe 10min. He checked my eyes before I left and instructed me to take a nap at home. At home, I kept my eyes closed the entire time. My eyes did burn as the drops wore off but the sensation felt like cutting an onion and eye watering. I had heard other stories and it was nowhere near as painful as I thought (and I consider myself a baby when it comes to pain). Since I couldn't sleep on my own, I took 2 tylenol PM and napped for around 4 hours. I woke up with some dry eyes (if felt like I left my contacts in after a nap) but no pain whatsoever! It was amazing to see after that nap. I followed with the drops as directed. I also went over their directions for the lubricating eye drops. Dr. Sonny and his staff will stress how you can't take too many eye drops so I keep putting them in every 15min or so. My eyes didn't burn but they will heal faster the wetter they are. You aren't allowed to rub your eyes for about a week which didn't bother me since they weren't irritated. Since I am on a computer for work and watch tv at home, I over compensated on the drops. My 1 week follow up went great. No dry spots on my eyes and it healed perfectly. I don't miss my glasses at all! Washing my face at night and putting on makeup is soo much better since I can see everything. I can't wait to travel and not worry about contact solution or glasses! Best decision of my life, hands down. Dr. Sonny is the best! read more
