I came here for lunch to celebrate one of my coworkers' retirement. Reservations were made in advance and a prix fixe menu was set - our party was fairly large (14). I arrived a little late (maybe by 5 mins) and the group was already seated when I arrived. Because the menu was preset the only decision I had to make was for my drink and shortly after everyone's drink orders were taken, the food started coming to the table. The food served was salad (Caesar and chopped salad), fries with cheese sauce, crabmeat and bacon bits, Brussel sprouts, spaghetti with meatballs, gnocchi, chicken Parm and salmon followed by cannolis. The food that I was able to eat (I don't eat pork and rarely eat beef) was really good - presentation, temperature and taste. I highly recommend this restaurant. LaScala's was the perfect choice! Great menu, incredible food, and affordable for a big group. We had Lauren as our server, and she was AMAZING. 100000/10 would recommend - She was easy going, always smiling, and so kind to all of our students. Been to a few different LaScala's in Jersey, so I knew the UCity one would not disappoint! BYOB so we brought a bottle of wine and got a bucket for it. Only complaint is we had the tiniest table and could barely fit our food on it. We had to put the wine bucket up on the ledge. We each got a classic caesar salad and then split the LaScalas fries and Brussel Sprouts pizza. Salad and pizza were great! The fries were absolutely delicious I could not put them down. They have crab meat in them, bacon, and a cheese sauce. Literally so good- get these!! Such a great chill vibe and the perfect place to bring some drinks and eat with friends. Hi, the food was great and so was the atmosphere but the service was TERRIBLE. We were seated and almost 10-15 mins went by before we put our drink order in no one ever came over to greet us nor ask for our drink order we had to ask grab the waiters attention as she was casually walking by. I was with a group of 5 ladies celebrating a retirement and all of us were disappointed with the service from our waiter, Sarah. We all felt like we were bothering her to do HER job! Took my family here for some dinner last night To be fair - the food was good. However the service was below par , considering also it wasn't that busy. Our server clearly forgot we were there as we were left in the back corner. When the bill arrived it showed the gratuity included already ( we were a party of 6 ). I can understand that - though it was NOT stated anywhere on the menu or anywhere else in the restaurant. My issue was the gratuity was 22% - I thought that was odd. When I asked the manager, I was rudely informed " no it's not listed on the menu but that's the policy , like just about every other restaurant ". - actually no it's not and when it is , it's usually posted . Additionally, to my knowledge it's never at 22% Honestly , I must say that the service was not worthy of the max tip ... but now knowing that they will charge it anyway itv explains why our server couldn't have been bothered checking on us - the tip was guaranteed Unfortunately, the rudeness of the manager and the entitlement attitude of the servers will keep my party of 6 from ever setting foot in there again. Pizza was lots of truffle and garlic here, a ton of cheese, and that brick oven crust was solid. Easily two could share (as we did with half leftover). The sprouts were sooooo good. Not charred like I usually like, but the balsamic and pancetta provided a perfect salty savory mix. Though a bit cramped on the inside, which is understandable due to being in a city, this place is great. I had the meatball panini and it came with fries which is fantastic! It was super tasty and let me just say I am so happy to find a restaurant who appreciates how much ketchup you need for fries. No empty Hentz bottles, little packets, or wasted honey mustard. I'll start with the positives: The food was delicious. (I had the eggplant Parmesan and zeppole for dessert.) The wait staff was very friendly and responsive. Negatives: the person in charge of the hostess stand was clearly stressed out about the number of people asking for tables, and was hostile to each group that approached the stand. When we told her we had a reservation, she turned straight to a younger hostess and said, "see, that's why we should have shut down Open Table earlier." (Open Table being the app we used for the reservation.) I know the restaurant business is stressful, and there's a fine balance between filling tables and overbooking. Nonetheless, even if she was tired and annoyed by the guests' very presence, as the front of house, she shouldn't make those feelings known to the innocent people walking through the door. It set us on edge and made us feel weirdly guilty for trying to patronize that place. In the end, the food made it worth it, though! Came for happy hour, had a great time, BYOB! On a weekday it was pretty empty so we had our pick of seating -- we chose a table outside. I would warn that the outdoor tables are basically right in the sidewalk so you do get people walking by pretty close. Servers were great but we did get dirty plates at first because the plates were stored outside (readily replaced though). I am highly disappointed by the service this Saturday night. I came for a nice dinner with my family and I left with the bare minimum. Usually I come here and receive great service, fast and efficient. But we sat here with some of our food coming out 20 minute before the rest. And even then, we couldn't eat any of it because we didn't have silverware for another 30 mins. Since we were waiting for utensils to actually eat our food, our pizzas got cold. We stopped in after touring Drexel, as it's right on campus, and from the outside it didn't look like a college hole in the wall or fast food place. I started with a Ship Bottom Lascala Hazy IPA, tasted like orange juice, not in a bad way. The food took a while to come out, and we saw other tables who ordered after us get their food first. Did our server forget to put it in? I don't know, but when she looked and saw we didn't have our food yet I saw her look of realization and she went to the kitchen right away presumably to check. Went to place an order for delivery on their direct website and it wouldn't process, so I ended up calling and placed an order for delivery. I spoke to a very friendly person who took my order and explained that I couldn't order online so I was placing an order for delivery.i added that I was staying at the hotel in the same plaza as the restaurant. She took my order and indicated that it would be ready in 15 minutes. Ten minutes later, I get a call from a different person from the restaurant who said that the kitchen was closed so they couldn't fulfill my order (I ordered wings and fries). I asked her when does the kitchen close. She said 10pm. I advised her that I ordered at 9:47pm. She spoke to someone and got back on the phone and said they would go ahead and fulfill the order, but that I would have to pick it up. I'm in my flannels, it's freezing cold outside, I had traveled from the West Coast earlier that day and at that point, I'm wondering if they're going to do anything with my food. I told not to worry about. For all of that time, they could have simply cooked the food. They need to get it together and work on their customer service; especially when they have a hotel within 2 minutes walking distance from them. read more

We decided to try this place out because it seemed like good food and nice place and not overpriced. I am so glad we did! All of the staff were super super nice, our server checked in multiple times, and the manager checked in with us as well. The interior is nice and bright and clean and I liked the seating options. I know this is a mostly student population but I will say it was a breath of fresh air to find a place that is accommodating to children as well. They didn't make us feel unwelcome and offered a kids menu. The chicken fingers and fries were well priced and a big portion. We adults had one pizza each and were only able to finish half - great portion size. Our favorite was the fig and prosciutto - SO GOOD!! It was absolutely delicious. The flavors went together so well and there weren't any difficult to eat big chunks of anything. So flavorful. Would definitely get again. The chicken bacon and ranch was tasty as well with a good amount of chicken, but the fig and prosciutto was amazing. Right now it is BYOB but I think they are offering in house drinks soon.
