We recently visited Las Trancas while in my wife's home state for our anniversary. She had to have some authentic NM menudo, and Las Trancas served it on a week day. All you can eat, but I have no idea how anyone can eat more than one bowl there! It was some of the best we've had! The ratio of meat to hominy was perfect, and the broth/soup was so flavorful. Just enough heat to have as a base. We got an extra order of bread and had plenty leftover to take home for breakfast the next day. I highly recommend the menudo.

Came in on Sunday before the church crowd, in need of a hangover fix. I heard they had good Posole so I came in for that. This is a Posole review only. My review is GET THE POSOLE! Huge chunks of meat, tons of hominy, huge bowl and flavorful! Man this is good! Pair it with a Mexican coke and you start to come back to life! The only thing I would change is the bread. It's like a toasted hotdog bun. A roll or tortilla would be better. Other than that, the Posole is 5 stars for me! I'll be back to try more of the menu.

His request to show proof I wasn't lying

We ordered to go and they sent my son with the wrong meal, the lady read the order back to my son and said albondigas, so my son took it.. He got all the way home and it was wrong. We called, they said to come back. Keep in mind, we live 20 minutes away! I called back just to make sure my food would be fresh because it had now been an hour. The manager not only laughed, he told me to text him a picture to make sure I wasn't lying, and I did even though I had never felt so in insulted in my life. it took 3 phone calls because he kept hanging up on me! Continued to laugh at me. Needless to say, I never got my food and he laughed when I asked for a refund.

Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - paradillas for 2 with beef, pork, a bit of chorizo, corn tortillas, grilled onions, 2 jalapeño toreados, asadero cheese, 2 baked potatoes, guacamole, and salsa. Very filling! We couldn't finish the plate and almost had enough for a second meal. The cooks on the protein were great but while the beef was nicely seasoned, the pork was a bit bland. The asadero cheese was great while hot but become solidified fairly quickly and was just a block of cheese then. Great guacamole but the salsa was a bit on the sour end. Ambience: 5/5 - cozy with low ceilings and historic decorations. Loved the servers' shirt that states ""I HATE TACOS" - no juan ever" Service: 5/5 - very friendly and welcoming service. Not the quickest but we weren't in a rush and were comfortable with the waits Value for price: 5/5 - reasonable price, delicious food, friendly service

Service was terrible. Once we got our food we were never checked on once. It would have been nice for a follow up and a refill on our drinks. They don't offer complementary chips and salsa. You have to buy them. Fajita mix that I got with chicken and beef was good. My husband got chicken and beef tacos. He said the beef was super bland but the chicken was good. Still on the search for amazing Mexican food here...

So far the only down fall to this place is you don't get chips and salsa upon sitting down. (That's one item I look for in any Mexican style restaurant) The red enchiladas were delicious, the pozole was on point

I asked for only onions and tostada chips for my order and instead I got a bunch of things I didn't ask for and I tipped like $3 just to get home 20min away pissed off and I didn't even get anything to eat with and if wasn't even busy right now

    Inside Las Trancas

Las Trancas is again one of my go to Mexican restaurants. Today, as always, the service was efficient and pleasant. I ordered their number #4 combination meal. This meal comes with a cup of their Albondigas Soup which was brought to the table within three minutes of ordering the meal. The soup was very flavorful and full of hearty vegetables. Rate the soup an "A-." I really enjoyed it. The main meal was brought to the table about six minutes later. The service overall was quick and efficient from the waitress to the kitchen. A ground beef taco was served on a separate plate with a little bit of salsa on the side. The salsa was quite ordinary but the taco, which had a soft tortilla warmed on the grill, was quite good for a ground beef taco. Actually, it was one of the better ground beef tacos I've had. Rate it a solid "B." The rice and refried beans were the usual. The enchilada was above average. Rate it a "B." The chile relleno was well above average and it had a good bit of heat. Rate it a "B+." The star of the show was, once more, their carne adovada. Large chunks of tender pork, so tender you could cut them with the side of your fork, were steeped in a delicious sauce. Since visiting Las Trancas once again this year the carne adovada served here has become one of my favorite meals in town. This version of carne adovada is how it should be done. THIS IS CLEARLY THE BEST CARNE ADOVADA IN LAS CRUCES. Rate it a an "A" for excellent. The restaurant with its nice ambiance and comfort, nice well rounded New Mex menu, good service, and really good food rates FIVE STARS. I've once again become a regular customer. (See my previous review for info on their stuffed sopapilla and chile con carne burrito.)

Mexican Combo Plate and wife picked Beef Flautas plate. Looks Delicious!

Combo plate for me, wife had beef Flauta plate. Both were scrumptious, authentic! Service was top notch and restaurant is notably clean and spacious. Gracias!

We asked to sit on the patio, which was nice, although a little chilly with all the patio umbrellas up. They brought out some salsa and a small portion of chips. The salsa was surprisingly spicy and flavorful! We ordered queso, which they brought quickly, minus chips. We were able to flag down a server for more chips, but it seemed like this was a constant issue. The queso tasted like Velveeta, but was better with the salsa mixed in. Definitely not worth the price. My hubby had the Estrella Tacos, which were surprisingly good and reasonably priced! I tried a side of the calabasitas with no idea what to expect and found them quite tasty. Overall, it just felt a bit odd. Service was lackluster, food was hit or miss. Would try again, maybe at a different time of day.

He has beaten stage four cancer three separate times. Needless to say, his career military background and having just retired in October 2025 served him well. He has faced every diagnosis head-on like the true American soldier he is. During one of our quiet conversations, he shared something that clearly weighed on him. He was heartbroken that he never got the chance to take his wife out for their 55th wedding anniversary in December because he was in the hospital. The next day, I asked him a simple question. If you could pick one restaurant within a 100-mile radius, just one, where would you want to go once you had your strength back? Without hesitation, he said La Posta. Over the next few weeks, a lot changed. He was released from the hospital. He slowly began to regain his strength. First the cane went away, then short walks turned into longer ones, and eventually he was even driving himself from LC to EPT for doctor's appointments. When I finally asked if he felt strong enough to go to that meal we had talked about, he lit up. He started telling me stories. How his father used to bring him to La Posta. How it had remained top notch throughout the years. He went into detail about every menu item he loved. But the one thing he really wanted me to understand was the ambiance. You will get it when you are there, he told me. I called to see if they took reservations. We were not even sure they did. A young woman named Priscilla answered the phone. I explained the situation. My uncle was finally strong enough to return to his favorite restaurant, one that held a lifetime of memories, and he had missed celebrating his 55th wedding anniversary. I told her I wanted to surprise them and make the night unforgettable. I even mentioned I was planning to have flowers delivered. Priscilla did not hesitate. She immediately connected me with her manager, Teresa. I asked if we could have a larger table than one meant for three people because my uncle wanted to order everything. Honestly, I just wanted him to eat, to enjoy himself, to feel normal again. Teresa agreed without question. Then something unexpected happened. Teresa explained that Priscilla was a single mom of two who had recently started a floral business on the side and truly wanted to help make this night special. She asked if it would be okay to involve her. Of course, I said yes. I was transferred back to Priscilla and told her to go big. No expense spared. I gave her full creative freedom and an unlimited budget. Unbeknownst to me, Priscilla partnered with a friend who specialized in balloon arrangements. What she created was nothing short of breathtaking. Place cards. Multiple floral centerpieces. An ornate floral display. A large professional sign welcoming my aunt and uncle to the restaurant. She handled everything with grace, professionalism, and kindness, even as our party grew from three people to thirteen. And then the story took a turn. The day before the dinner, my uncle was rushed into emergency surgery. Suddenly, everything was uncertain. Half the family canceled to stay at the hospital. We kept Priscilla updated as events unfolded. Not once did she complain. Not once did she lose her composure. She adapted to every change with pure professionalism and empathy. She even adjusted the floral arrangements when we decided to bring flowers and food to the hospital instead. That is when I learned that the owners of La Posta had been informed of the situation. The male manager on duty, and I regret not remembering his name, passed along a message from them expressing their deepest condolences and gratitude. He also shared that they wished they could have been there to meet my uncle. There really are still good people in this world. After her shift ended at 4 p.m., Priscilla went to pick up her kids and then came back to the restaurant just to meet me. She walked me through everything she had created and explained the work behind it. When I asked how much I owed her, she paused and said she wanted to bless my family and could not accept payment. I was overwhelmed. Her work would have easily cost four to five hundred dollars. I insisted on tipping her at the very least, and she reluctantly agreed. The food that night was incredible. We had a wonderful server, and the food was amazing. We ordered extra meals to go so my cousins could bring my uncle his favorite dishes back to the hospital. It was a small way to lift his spirits during one of the darkest moments our family has faced. My uncle asked me to thank you for the food. And I want to thank everyone at La Posta for the hospitality, the compassion, and the humanity. When my uncle regains his strength and comes home again, we will return with his wife so he can finally give her the 55th wedding anniversary dinner they both deserve.

Our waiter, Chase, quickly came to our table to offer us drinks. Chase was very attentive throughout the entire meal. He brought our food out quickly and checked on us as we ate to ensure we were not lacking anything. Excellent service!! Now for the food... The small bowl of chips didn't have a chance to empty before Chase brought another bowl (without us having to ask). We loved the salsa bar where we were able to select the salsas that we wanted to try. We chose the traditional, jalapeño and tomatillo, pico de galio, and chipotle. We agreed that all of them were delicious. My husband had the fish tacos. The serving size was great!! He would have preferred grilled fish rather than the breaded and fried fish; but all-in-all he said it was good. (For non-fish eaters like myself, the fish smell was quite strong and overpowered the smells of the rest of our meals). My daughter got the Monster build your own burrito with chicken. She loved it and said the grilled chicken was delicious!!! My daughter's boyfriend had the chicken enchiladas Christmas (green and red sauces for those who may not be familiar). He loved it! Like my daughter, he too enjoyed the grilled chicken that came in his enchiladas. I had the cheese enchiladas Christmas with 2 fried eggs and sauce on the side. The sauces were both delicious!!!! Everyone at the table enjoyed tasting the green sauce which had a creamy and cheesy consistency with the perfect amount of green chilies and heat. The red sauce was a traditional New Mexico red enchilada sauce with exactly the right amount of heat. My single complaint about my meal is that I could have counted the number of cheese shred pieces between each tortilla of the enchiladas. All of us liked the refried beans and Spanish rice that came with our meals.
