I am of Mexican Descent but I embrace the eclectic mix of American practices first, and then Mexican traditions. Like I would opt to attend a concert in the Disney Concert Hall before a Corrido, 100% percent of the time. Nevertheless, I still feel a connection to Mexican culture that endures. This connection, I felt was respected, when I saw Coco. I know, I know, Coco was an animated project that literally gave caricature form to Mexican traditions. In doing so, however, it gave fresh vibrancy with color and detail, cultural songs that are not tired, and a story that centralized the the spirit of Mexican lore with respectable flare. In contrast, Las Perlas had aspects that, in my opinion, caricaturized Hispanic culture. So let us start the review by exploring the contrast of what seemed fresh and what seem stale, at least in one Yelpers opinion. What has withstood the test of time, is the tequila selection and how it is displayed in a shelf. All the bottles are stacked by size, color, and together say- this is the house that tequila build, sample different kinds but just use some caution or else your face might know the pound of the floor. I also noticed (and clipped) a picture of a ladder that can be used to climb to get the bottles from the top. So literally effort and climb is required to reach the top shelf booze of the place. The focal point of the tequila shelf was an image of the Virgin Mary. For me, this is where the situation becomes a bit more complex but not necesirarily in a cool way. The Virgin Mary is the patron saint of Mexico, and on her birthday celebrations and pilgrimages abound to celebrate her life. I have been to LA's Cathedral and her famous and she is celebrated by lights that form into red roses, and by patrons who go seeking her favor by reverence. Using her image to show that she is blessing tequilas or their pure intent seems to minimize or twist her purpose. Like do people really want connect the reverence owed to the mother of a deity to an item that is used to lubricate a party? Maybe. I have heard that Dyonosus- Greek God of Wine-- sponsored some great parties through libations. I know that I might have dived deep into my thoughts here but what was one stylish and novel can now be considered un-modern. On another quick example, we see Campesinos (field workers) tend to the leafs that give tequila to the world. These workers were doing back breaking labor, one can feel the heat and soreness of the workers just by seeing the mural. And in the clip two girls are using their phone, to keep up with modern demands--- whether that be posting, influencing or moving stock funds around. Thus, in my opinion, the picture of laborers tending fields is one that should be balanced as Mexican's should no longer just be shown as braceros and laborers, even in this bar. I came around 9 and this bar was sort of crowded, the party was starting to build. I sat and drank their La Fresa Loca drink, with vodka instead of tequila. Special nod to their menu for being loteria-tablet-like. The drink was delicious, refreshing, and it made me feel like I was drinking a fun and fruity cocktail. I paid for two in advance then closed my card. They allowed for that. As soon as I finished one, I could order a new one. That was kind of neat, and I never had tried the strategy before. It helped me get my drinks in before the crowd accumulated. This is definitely a party spot, and I can see how it hits hard later in the evening. If you are the type of person that gets distracted with decorations and their place and message in modern times, like me, one might over think. But if one just wants to party hard with tequila and some tacos, and ladies, and gents, then this place handles.

One of the best places in LA if you want to hear great Latin music and amazing selection in Tequila & Mezcal spirits. There's never a dull night here as this place always has music going on every night with no cover charge. There might be lines at times during the weekends but it's worth the wait as the vibes here are great. For being a busy bar, service is always quick and helpful. Never have had a bad experience when the service here despite how packed this place can get. I love coming here to hear some good music and have some great tequila options that you can't find in most places. Highly recommend!

It was great to walk in here after having my ID checked. Live music and great drinks. Pay to park down the block but if you carpool it isn't so bad. Great place to destress.

It's a go to bar if you want good drinks and good tacos and nachos. The ambience is good, good music but it's better if you go early cuz it gets crowded... The only think I don't like it's the area, the entrance it's not the best, sometimes it's not very clean, but I guess it's DTLA.

This dive bar is usually active on weekends. Great for hanging with friends late nights in dtla. The staff are friendly and make brilliant drinks, but also taco stand on patio. I ordered a mocktail pineapple drink and a mezcal margarita. The bar tender gave warm service and awesome drinks. Went to the patio for tacos, only pork and beef available. Tortilla mad with corn, slightly thicker but still a nice snack in between drinks. Layer of flavors, mild house salsa and juicy tacos. Definitely order the tacos if you're not vegan and drinking. There's live entertainment some nights and spacious with nonslip floors. Restrooms located next to bar.

What a fun night I had with my girlfriend! the security at the front let us in ahead of all the people in line and that was really the highlight of the night. The moment we walked in we were greeted by amazing gentlemen and a few offered to buy us drinks. I truly enjoyed dancing with a group of people we met and stayed till they closed. I also definitely enjoyed the music so much and was singing along to my favorite artists all night. Thanks Las Perlas for showing us a night to remember

Fun place for drinks and dancing. This place gets packed but the bartender was quick to take our order. They have specialty cocktails and tons of tequila options. The place is small but has a couple booths and a small space to dance or stand to hang around. They also had tacos available for food off to the side too. Your best bet for parking is paying to park at a lot or Uber since it's in DTLA.

Do they have an outdoor patio or rooftop bar?

It is more indoor/outdoor seating. YOU can smoke and sit near an opening but I would not say it is all the way outside.

When do they (if they do) have Cumbia night? The website doesn't show their event calendar.

Is this bar 18+ or 21+?

    21+

    Monday - Wednesday

The atmosphere is immersive, theatrical, moody, and every nook and cranny of this place is beautifully detailed. Our group embraced the requested all-black dress code, and I was a little disappointed that some other guests didn't play along. When a place puts this much effort into creating a particular world, dressing the part really does make the experience more fun. The spirits themselves were excellent. We tasted vodka, whiskey, and rum, and all three were remarkably smooth, interesting, and clearly very high quality. I loved that the tasting was guided rather than just having drinks dropped in front of us. The storytelling and presentation made us pay attention to what we were actually tasting and gave the evening a nice sense of progression. We also happened to be there while comic artist Matt Harley of Marvel fame was sketching, which felt perfectly suited to the setting and made an already unusual night even more memorable. The space is gorgeous: candlelight, artwork, strange little details everywhere, dramatic lighting, beautiful glassware, and even the outdoor fire element. There's so much to look at that you feel like you're discovering something new every time you turn around. Our whole group LOVES Halloween, so this felt like the absolute perfect way to kick off spooky season. It has exactly the kind of dark, mysterious, slightly magical atmosphere we were hoping for without feeling cheesy or gimmicky. We loved the rum so much that we ended up buying a bottle, which also granted us Level 1 membership, so this definitely won't be our only visit. Such a fun choice for a birthday celebration, date night, or a night out with friends when you want something completely different from the usual bar experience. We're already looking forward to going back and seeing what our new membership unlocks.

The atmosphere is fun and looks great, but the only proper drink that didn't feel like a tiny sample was the old fashioned. The rest of the portions felt like I was given only a taste, when the price didn't feel to be justified in the small helpings that we were given. I get you want to avoid drunks ruining the experience, but I walked out thinking "That's it?". Not saying people wouldn't enjoy what they offer, I feel if all their experience drinks were about the size of their old fashion it would've definitely been a 5 star review. In closing I don't want to dissuade anyone from trying it out, but I didn't feel the value in the total experience, felt more like they wanted to warm us up to spend more at their bar after the "experience".
