Las Palaps Express on 1604 just south of I-10, is hit or, miss at best and tonight it's a hard miss. At 5:46pm on a Wednesday, the restaurant is lacking utensils & Red Salsa @ the Self-Serve chip bar. When we mentioned the waitress said she knew about it but did nothing to replenish. We were given plastic utensils which are weak and cheap. The Berf was stringy fatty to the point we didn't eat much of it. The restrooms were not maintained, out of TP, trash was bagged and outside the door to the restroom partly blocking getting on. In other words, if you haven't eaten in a week, you should skip this place altogether. One last thing I hate - tipping is done when you pay up front at the register. We didn't know this was an express, until we got inside. You have to order at the counter, wait for your drinks, then get a number and get a table. They did bring the food out, but I had to walk back to the counter for a refill. The atmosphere is casual, pretty laid back, the music was awesome, lots of Spanish / Tejano music. The coffee was delicious, I had to ask what brand it was, and I was told that they grow their own beans and grind their own. She was just messing with me. I'm not a coffee snob, but this one cup here makes me want to look for more flavorful coffee. I had the sausage and egg plate, a link of sausage and scrambled eggs. Potatoes and beans. Maria had the chorizo and egg plate, with beans and potatoes. The potatoes were good, we took them home to have for another breakfast. The chorizo was very flavorful and not greasy. Really enjoyed the breakfast tacos, excellent bacon and options for both flour and handmade corn tortillas. Friendly and helpful staff.

I went in not knowing what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. Gave full size restaurant feel but with a smaller vibe. Great place to bring family for a family dinner night. I went in with my 2 kids and they loved it as well as I did. My son loves the cheese enchiladas. I myself prefer the beef fajita nachos but the best thing to do is to add the queso instead of the shredded cheese you will thank me later lol. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We love Las Palapas and visit other locations often, but this new location was honestly a joke. The queso cup was only halfway full, and the server didn't bring any chips with it. There was a self-serve chip station, but it was completely empty. When I asked the server for chips, he just kept pointing to the empty station like I hadn't already checked. My grandfather ordered his usual burrito -- something he enjoys at other locations -- but this time, the tortilla was so hard he couldn't even cut it, and he said it tasted awful. Really disappointing experience overall. We'll stick to the other locations from now on. read more

I went to order breakfast tacos and was given the wrong order. So I drove back to get the correct order, and was given my original old tacos that had already made their way to another customers hands and back to the restaurant. I could tell because the foil was all wrinkled and half opened and the tacos were folded in half and slapped right in the bag, the bag also had a staple that was no longer closed. So I go back and ask for fresh tacos. The lady said " i opened them with gloves to verify they were correct". Umm no thanks, at this point the tacos were already cold and in too many hands. Recently opened in our area. Love the food! Delicious every time. Good value, especially if you use the point system. The atmosphere has not been good lately. Dirty tables and silverware turn us off. Lots of factors, time, and consideration go into my final *stamp* of approval or disapproval. Like Las Palapas Express for example. First visit - okay. Second - Eh. Then - Why do I not want to try a Third time? The food was good, the employees, not outright rude or anything. Atmosphere was okay for the area, to me, kind of bland. But really it's what you get for that price. First , do not be fooled by the drive thru or the name, the wait is so much longer than a real Las Palapas. Look at the pictures from other reviews, those are $15 plates! Its like they took the opportunity to use the name Express to sell you less food for the same price/wait. Our food was delicious! Even better than our regular Las Palapas. But what made it even more enjoyable was that the manager Gonzalo was so friendly and was actually delivering orders to tables and checking how everything was. So glad we stopped in! read more
